Kinda insecure, aren't you? Sometimes partners want to change their other half for better. Probably never heard of boyfriend/girlfriend effect😂😂😂 My fiancé supported and gave me a lot of confidence to grow my hair. I always dreamed of long hair and I finally grew them. I get lots of compliments because they are well maintained and healthy. That makes me feel so much better 😊

THANK YOU for saying that if a client only wants a tiny bit taken off, you must not take off more without their consent, even if you personally think it would be better! After all, it's their hair and they have to live and be happy with it. There is nothing worse than a hairdresser who breaks their client's trust by chopping off more than was agreed on!

yuh, and I wonder how the boyfriend who pressured her to change her hair feels about the result. I really hope she goes to someone else, does a color correction and a big chop but this is not her fault as she tried to vet her stylist. the only thing she could have done better is to speak up more quickly, but I don't know that it would have changed the overall outcome

This is exactly why I have trust issues with getting my hair cut. Last time I went I said to cut 3-4 cm or inch and a half. Went from long hair to above sholeders in a matter of seconds. Woman just grabbed half my hair and cut 20 cm off (8 inches). I was in shock and all I could see was my mom in the mirror, her eyes almost poping off her eyesockets and more than half my hair in the womans hands. She had the nerve to ask if that was enough, while I told her 3 times that I only want to cut an inch or two. Might as well f up my hair for free by myself instead to pay someone to do it.

I am mean. I cut a strip of paper to the length I will allow to be cut off. I also take my ruler. I show it to the stylist and say "This is the maximum I want cut off." When they make their first cut, I ask to see what was cut off. I apologetically say I got a bad cut once where they cut so much off now I'm scared. They all comply.

This is a big fear of mine with new stylists, and I will take note when I have a consult of how well they seem to listen and how pushy they seem to be. I asked a hairdresser once to just take off the dead ends and freshen up the layers. We both agreed that I needed to take off 2 inches and I was fine with that. When she was getting started she said that I needed to stand up during the haircut because my hair was too long she said. My hair had been longer than it was at that time and I never needed to stay standing for a haircut before. I thought it was strange, but went ahead since I really needed a cut. She wound up cutting over 6 inches and I was upset. She was nonchalant about it and said it'll grow back. Didn't offer a discount or anything for not giving me what I wanted. It wasn't a bad cut, but 6 inches of hair is a lot to lose when you're trying to get your hair even longer.

I asked for 3 inches off and when I left, she had taken 11 inches off. She acted like nothing was wrong. I cried for weeks. It makes me so sad to see people end up with stylists like this who can't seem to communicate effectively. My aunt is a stylist and salon owner and has done my hair my whole life. She still talks me through everything, every time, just to be sure we're on the same page. If I tell her to cut however much needs to be cut for my hair to be healthy, she physically shows me how much that will be. If we're coloring my hair, she asks if I want to change anything and shows me what it's likely to look like. I just don't understand the total lack of communication on this stylist's part😬

I am not very picky and the cuts I ask for are basic, like a blunt bob or something, when I ask to thin out the bottom they always cut layers even though I say NO layers. I just want it thinned out. I just do it myself, if I mess it up at least it’s free.

Similar situation happened to me at an Aveda salon outside Washington D.C. I spent $340 and many tears. All I wanted was balayage with heavy highlights. My hair is a Neutral tone level 8/7.5 naturally so its very easy to work with! I somehow ended up with level 6 redfish roots and honey colored ends. Thankfully I spoke up and got it fixed! (Ashy Level 8 root, with level 10 soft baby lights throughout) Long story short though, I’ve been doing my own hair ever since. 🥴

Quite a long time ago now: Lots of fine medium-dark brown hair that had violet put over it (the color shone in the sun but was stealthy under crap office lighting.) I went to an expensive salon for a treatment to put it back to my natural color and some repair so I could grow it out from a bob. The owner did my hair, but I waited ages and ages. It was a dual appointment with a friend and we were sat at opposite ends of the salon, but then they made me wait until she was done before starting on me. There were no other customers, the other hairdresser was just hanging out. They opened a bottle of champagne everyone had a glass (while at work, begore cutting my hair?? I should have left, but I wanted to spend time with my friend.) It didn't turn out an unsalvageable mess, but between telling me that I absolutely should not adopt because I'll get [racist code words] child addicted to hard drugs and being absolutely certain they were gossiping about me (because they were gossiping about my friend when they got to me) I was not terribly happy with the service. For the cut: the layering was much more than I'd ever had despite saying I was growing it out and put it up for work. After a few days I realized that without a lot of product the shorter pieces were just permanent flyaways. A French braid was the only way to put it up for work without them escaping because of how short some of it was, with less than half my hair going past my shoulders anymore. Hair nets [ugh so hot and ugly] were what I had to deal with for a long time. But the worst part! For months after I got uncountable calls, texts, and emails harassing me to make my next appointment. Instead of doing that I called to cancel the one I had made that day and eventually blocked their number after they started up again a year later. 🙃 I've never had to block a small business before or since.

What a hair dresser considers short and what a girl who keeps hair long enough to reach her lower back considers short hair. For years my sister considered hair that reached her bra strap on her back (so middle of her back) to be a short hair cut. I considered hair cut just above my shoulders to be short and a hair dresser told me that was considered medium length. This really helped me to know how to communicate to a hair dresser.

I am not a hairdresser but I am an painting artist and I can remix every paint tone just by seeing it and just with 3-5 basic colours. And as I saw the wanted picture my first thought was "girl your hair is too dark and red, if you want this tone they should bleach it first until red is gone" The most people don't see the included pigments they just see red but I can say if it is possible to get pink with this red or not. Because I see if there is yellow or not included.

OMG I'd be so upset if my stylist considered that much hair a trim! I'll never forget the story my friend's sister told me about her worst haircut. She had beautiful long healthy hair that she'd been growing out and it was maybe halfway down her back. She discussed the cut with the stylist and told her she wanted just a trim. She flicked her hair back with her hands just above her shoulders, the way you do when you have long hair to put it all behind your shoulders. The stylist decided that where her hands had touched her hair was where she wanted it cut, and chopped her waist length hair to chin length!! Stylist said she thought that she was motioning to where she wanted the hair to be cut. The girl got really upset but there was no saving it and she had to go short! I can't believe some stylists seem to not know what clients mean by "just a trim" and don't even ask before they take multiple inches off.

Goes to show what a stylist envisions is different from a client. I guess it's important to have a color chart in front of you when discussing what color you really want. Same thing with length- have a ruler available so you can say "this is what 2 inches is". But like other people said, if this was all because of a rude a-hole boyfriend saying your color is boring, then the first chop to make is him!

Some of the interpretations of color differences might be a regional too. In the US my natural color (think Let Go-era Avril Lavigne, or Emily Blunt in Into the Woods) was considered blonde, but I come for Finland so when I think blonde I think Khaleesi, Elle Fanning in The Great etc.

My hair base is like the girl in the pic... definitely dark ash blonde but so many ppl think when I grow my hair out it's brown.. I'm always having to correct.. if you compare the tones of brown hair to dark blonde hair you'll def see the difference..also by the way it lightens
@joane24
@joane24 Жыл бұрын
@@amandaashley8631 Exactly. My hair is light brown but the ones in the chart look darker (I think it's a difference between one swatch and a look on the whole head). My light brown is similar in lightness with a dark ashy blonde, but in reality the dark blondes look different than mine light brown. There's different hue to it, different color reflexes, mine are more brassy/browny than ashy. It's light, but definitely brown.

Her hair looked way better before she asked him to fix it again. If you are getting ur hair done & they just start chopping it off & u don't want that stop them immediately! The layering could have been better. She did ask for layers tho. I don't think she understood the difference in the colors from what she wanted to what she has. Of course it's gonna be different. Find a stylist you can trust & communicate good with. Communication is key!

I've encountered the "people thinking their clearly medium/dark blond hair is brown" problem where I live, but on the English speaking part of the internet the only blond in existence seems to be bleach/platinum/maybe very light blond? For once, I would like to find a video of someone colouring their naturally blond hair 😒

Experiences like this are why I learned how to do hair. When my hair grew back after chemo, it was uneven and thin at the ends and really gross looking. For the first time in 20 years, I scheduled an appointment to get it cut because I did not have the strength to do it myself at that point. Covid shut everything down a few weeks before my appointment. I took that as my sign, don't go back. I had my husband cut it. He was so scared of messing up he ONLY did what I told him to. I had just gotten my hair back (I am 6 foot tall and had waist length hair pre-cancer, my hair was my baby) and he didn't want to cut too much off or mess it up. He did a fantastic job. That was 2020. Now, almost 2 years later, he's still the only person that has cut my hair since it came back. He is a nervous wreck every time, but he always does super great. I have bleached and dyed it a few times in the last year, but when it comes to cuts he takes care of that for me.. I have taken my kids a few times to get cuts, but always end up fixing it because one side is 2 inches longer than the other or the layers are very choppy in the worst way. My husband is military so I fade and cut his hair at least once a month. When I was on chemo, I couldn't cut their hair. In the 2 years I was on chemo, between the 3 of them (husband and 2 kids), there was 1 haircut that actually turned out good. Moral of the story. Put a lot of effort in to finding a hair dresser. My experience is there are more bad ones than good ones. And if you can't find a good one, learn to do it yourself. It's a lot of effort but the payoff is worth it in the end. I hope this person was able to find someone to fix her hair, the end result was not okay.

Once I went to a salon in West London where they claimed to have an extensive celebrity clientelle for over 10 years. I asked for a perm (curling) which I got. For 2 hours! I went back and showed them my hair was straight again and I wanted a refund. They offered to give me treatment. I said, no thanks, I want a refund. Which I eventually got. I paid for a perm, I got a temp 😂 I was soooo annoyed.

I feel for her! The same thing happened to me. I got something from my hairdresser that I neither wanted nor asked for. I wanted caramell brown highlights. I even shoed the hair dresser a picture. What I got is a Bayalage with really light (!) blond. You have no idea how shocked I was when I was how light my hair was! The blonde has ruined my natural brown hair (despite intensive care!). The hair dresser later even complained and wondered why my hair was so dry... The only thing I can do is let it grow out and be patient. I'm so angry and sad. I ended up changing the hair salon.

....at least her hair is no longer boring. The color thing can be confusing. For the majority of my life, I thought I had natural light brown hair, until I asked my hair stylist for products that would help keep my hair from bleaching so much in the sun. She led me straight to the blond section for some UV protection. I was about to protest, because I had always considered myself a brunette. But I when I got home, I looked up some professional color charts online, and sure enough, I'm dark blond.

Her hair is still long, but she indeed lost a huge amount of length. I have my hair up to my butt, if I went to a hair salon to ask for a little trim, even a bit of layers, and got out with 5 years of growth gone, my hair only up to my bra, I would be infuriated... it's criminal, point blank period. Plus the cut itself is shameful!!

When you took out the color chart and explained what's light brown and what's dark brown, I remembered a moment I had with a friend. "Look at the girl with the black hair, she's so pretty!", and I was like "what girl? there is no girl with black hair!", and he was like "well that girl over there with that green shirt", and I was like "oh, yah, that girl with the light brown hair, right there? yah, she really is pretty.", people keep thinking I do have brown hair too (naturally) and ask me how I get my hair white blonde so easily. Well, my hair naturally is medium ash blonde, not brown... (maybe leaning towards dark ash blonde in certain areas, but certainly not brown) that isn't that hard to lift to a level ten. But it is hard to explain to people who have never been in touch with hair coloring theory without sounding like a complete nerd to them.

I nearly freaked out when the stylist began cutting!!!! BUT the client should have been SPECIFIC about how much she wanted cut off. My stylist asks me at every appointment “so, how much do you want trimmed/cut today?” If I say “just say hello to the ends with the scissors” she knows exactly what I mean. If I say “let’s cut it!” She’ll show me what 2” or 3” or 4” will be, indicating to me what the length will be. Then we decide.

Unfortunately this cutting too much of my hair without consent has happened more times than a happy haircut. I have a hair stylist now who doesn’t cut more than I say or more than she shows me and I’ve been going to her for years now. Before that I had had wanted 3 inches off my waist long hair and got a cut to shoulder length before I even knew what was happening! I didn’t go to a hair salon for 6 years and was cutting my own hair at home because I would have rather had not perfect hair than short hair constantly from every time them not listening to me. It makes me so angry ! I do NOT understand they’re attitude on wanting to chop off long hair. It’s like they’re mad you have long hair. I don’t like going to the salon at all. And everyone who does perfect hair on Instagram and KZfaq I feel doesn’t actually work in the industry they just make videos or something and all the hairdressers around in salons hardly have any talent. If someone can do better hair at home than a average hairdresser they need to go back to school or there’s a serious problem that schools are not testing these peoples skills before they’re certified. Idk but it makes me very upset.

In the past I had to argue a lot with people, that I have dark blonde hair and not brown… But it seems like it is normal to confuse these two. When I was colouring my hair in the hair salon (ginger), I had one appointment before, so my hair stylist could take a closer look on my natural colour and what I wanted, so she could say, what is possible and what not. I really think it is, like in the video said, that the hairstylist says, what is possible and what not. But I guess there are also clients who cannot accept, if the wished result isn‘t possible. Well, I like pastel colours, but my hair would never survive it, so I don‘t do it xD But yeah, the work of this hair salon is really bad. Especially the hair cut… I can understand that girls with long hair don‘t want it shorter (even when I‘m someone who would sa „okay, then chop it off, no problem for me“), but it will grow again, it takes just longer… Still better than an awful cut I would say.

The biggest issue clients/hairstylists have, is lack of communication and a vast difference in knowledge. My mom is a stylist, and I've learned to ask for 1 inch because I know she'll take 2. And when it comes to colour; looking at the colour charts and asking questions. I have dark blonde hair. (With quite a bit of grey now). I also have red undertones, which are undetectable with the naked eye. Anything golden will go yellow 💛 or orange 🧡 or red ❤. Communication is key. Schedule an extra 15 minutes for discussion, if your going for something different than your usual. 😉

I recently went to a new stylist to get a similar balayage done and ended up with highlights...It would have been ok if she had listened to where I wanted the color to start, but she took them so close to my roots. Then, she charged me $50 extra to "smudge" the color so it would "blend" with my natural ash brown hair, but the smudge toner turned the area brassy. She did manage to tone the ends ashy like I wanted, but overall it just looked a bit odd. I've since washed my hair a few times and its settled down, but its still not what I was after and I'm considering my options going forward. She is great at cutting hair, but coloring clearly isn't her strong suit. I'll be sure to seek out a seasoned pro next time I attempt coloring my hair...
