I think as a gamer - our "best game ever played" is always evolving. Now as a 50 year old gamer- I think back to my days as a kid, where I'd go down to my neighborhood bowling alley and sink a small fortune in quarters into a game called GAUNTLET... It was the ORIGINAL dungeon crawler...it was very innovative for it's time. The first multi-player, top down scroller in which you could play different character classes. It was the best game i ever played...at the time.

When I go back to greatest games I ever played I think about a game called Tunnels of Doom. I played it on a Texas Instruments computer before we had a commodore 64. It had a big influence with me when it comes to fantasy RPG's. From there Pools of Radiance on my commodore 64 came next. As far as Arcade games to Gauntlet is on my list. Popeye and dig dug were also personal favorites of mine.

I started gaming in 1999... Over the years you lose, unfortunately, that joy of discovering a video game. Basically my most memorable gaming experiences were early 2000s with WoW being the last game that really left that impression. Then Elden Ring came out, and I got that feeling back. It's a one of a kind game

i been gaming since the nintendo entertainment system came out. I've played more games than i can remember, but there is maybe 15-20 that give me that wonder feeling. ER wasn't opne of them for me, but it is interesting how certain games just hit that magic spot and become that amazing experience for you. Shows how hard it is to make a great game, as its hard to put into words wht really makes an amazing game for everyone.

@@ronuss I think my reaction time, possibly due to my age made Elden Ring too hard for me. Even when I knew what to do I was often to slow to react. I ended up getting to frustrated and quitting before finishing. For me BG3 hit the sweet spot of great story and character development. And the game play didn't require me to have quick reflexes but knowledge and tactical thinking which I am good at. I would reload saved games after beating certain encounters just to see if I could defeat it with different tactics then the first time. After a few hundred hours I finally stopped playing.

the thing that really clicked with me with e.r. is that it's a game that you actually feel like you're playing. so many other games feel like you're on rails and no matter what you do you're guaranteed to win. but elden ring really forces you to engage with it and learn it before you can beat it. and that if you learn how to play it, you can beat it without optimized builds or gear. you can beat it naked with a club as a level 1, and i know that's true about the majority if not all of fromsoft's souls games, but the added layers of open world and freedom really just blows the lid off of everything else that's come before
@ronussАй бұрын
not if you played every souls games before it dont. i finished ER in like 48 hours on my first run, i didn't go everywhere because i couldn't figure out how to get there, it made no difference i beat the game. The game does a good job at feeling like going everywhere matters, it doesn't really. but its nice that it makes you feel like everywhere matters iguess.
@mad_lipz5731Ай бұрын
@@ronuss I'm sorry but you're probably one of few people who share this bad sentiment/bad take. I took my time with Elden Ring and explored the world, my first clear was roughly 82 hours. With how big the world in Elden Ring is, it's not like previous souls games where the locations are far more linear and connected in a multitude of ways. There really is worth in going everywhere and exploring everything, even in the small form of souls. I guarantee there's a lot of things you didn't do, a lot of quests that you missed, a lot of strong items and fun bosses you didn't fight..... the thing is that you don't HAVE to go everywhere to finish the game, but it rewards you for it quite heavily for doing so. Legitimately two of the coolest fights in the game (Fortissax and Placidusax) are very easily missed if you just stick to the main story. Another really cool fight is Astel Naturalborn of the Void. Elden Ring will be remembered for a very long time and unless they somehow messed up really bad, will likely win GOTY for the second time in a row.
@ronussАй бұрын
@@mad_lipz5731 you may be right, but the game didn't grab me. i had no interest in the story at all for the first time in a souls game. so i had no interest to get every item for flavor txt. i never said it was a bad game either, so my take is just my opinion. the game didn't grab me. playing again would be forcing it and thats not fun with anything.

@mad_lipz5731Ай бұрын
@@peacefindersimply5001 That's not why I replied. The person stated that the game does a good job of making you feel like exploring matters but that it doesn't really, when it quite literally does. The same can be said about other Dark souls games which is what said person is comparing/contrasting to, implying that those games do a better job of that when they really aren't that different outside of feeling more confined versus being open world. I'm not arguing whether or not someone likes it, or whether they think it's a bad game or not. I'm pointing out the logical fallacy.

I really don't think an open world sandbox would work for it. What made it different from their other games was the high polish they could put in due to it having limited choice. For example it easily has the best combat they've made but that's because it's based around 1 weapon.

For me, world of warcraft was the best game because it consumed me from launch all the way to wrath. Then I finally started to slow down and take a break. but that game held me entertained for an easy 7 to 10 years. No other game has been able to do that to me. It's a great world to explore a lot of good questing. Raids, dungeons, p VP it had it all and still does. I just can't devote the time to the game anymore. I can't speak to the state of the game today. But back then, it was a great game.

@officialdabaws5228Ай бұрын
@@GCorndog ER is easier in the early game that other souls games but the later game stuff is way harder than the older titles. but fromsoft, with the additions of the spirits you can summon, ontop of the still being able to summon the npc phantoms AND they made it extremely easy to over level, example being how many people beat the game around level 100-110? haligtree where malenia is, is a 110 zone..... my point is, all of this combined has made it way more accessible to most that have been put off how punishing souls game are. summoning spirits can literally cause some boss mechanics to never happen on most bosses.

GoAT Game fact: When you finish playing a GoAT game, you won't talk about a game you played. You will talk about an experience you had. That is, to me, the sign of a truly GoAT game.
@DarkepyonXАй бұрын
If that was true that would be horrid for marketing, if you stopped talking about it then it wasn't that good period 😂 Your statement is nonsense and goes against known factors in neurology, psychology etc 😂 Goat games don't have 50%+ return raye or flood pawn shops in copies jfc copium much

I am So happy to hear you say this, this was my first game into the souls series and I have been hooked every since. Yes, it's hard but the feeling of accomplishment when you start crushing bosses etc with your build. I freaking LOVEEEE just running around getting lost and finding stuff. Every play through I have done, I have found at least one thing I didn't remember from the last playthroughs. Absolutely AMAZINGGGGGGGG game, ER and the Metal gear solid series are my two fav games of all time.

I’m an 80’s gamer. But my favorite game isn’t something most people would think a 40+ year old would enjoy the most. I LOVE Minecraft. Not vanilla Minecraft. No no no. My favorite game is heavily modded hardcore Minecraft. When I say “hardcore” I don’t mean one life and when you die your save is deleted. I mean tediously long play-through modpacks that require lots of time spent and careful thought put into everything you do. Modpacks like Gregtech, Skyfactory, ATM, etc.. I get really excited when a new modpack comes out that the modding community poured their hearts into. The latest modpack that really did a fantastical job is ATM9: TTS. The quests are really well done and the flow of the game doesn’t get interrupted by insane difficulty.

It just feels like the first time since Ocarina Of Time that a developer has respected me enough to trust I can handle the challenge and they’re not going to hold my hand. There are so many games over the years that have shaped me, but something about this is different where when I truly ask myself “what’s the best game you’ve ever played?” I have a hard time putting it anywhere outside my top 3, and even then I bounce around with it being 1 or 2
