What’s creepiest about gooby is he doesn’t come across as an innocent teddy bear that just came alive. Like poo. He comes across like a full grown man.. a disgusting and selfish one at that.

I feel like this movie was written in the eighties, the script was left in some filing cabinet and exhumed twenty years later by a studio that was desperate for money.

The most distressing thing about this whole movie is that Gooby is constantly eating and saying he's hungry, which could only happen if he had organs and a digestive system.

This was shot at my elementary school. The classroom they used was my old classroom. The last day before summer they asked my class to move our desk and put the text books in a certain order. The director came in a talk about the movie. When it came out the whole school (only 200 kids) sat in the gym and watched the movie. We all found it creepy LOL

THEORY: Gooby could actually be big Bruce’s uncle in a bear costume. He may have had it hanging in his closet while he still lived with Bruce’s family (therefore explaining why Bruce recognized it,) but after getting kicked out, Bruce’s uncle must hide his identity to avoid arrest and prosecution for stalking, child endangerment, and possible pedophilia. Now, he is simply a deranged homeless man who uses his bear fursona to manipulate kids into feeding and housing him, as well as allowing themselves to be susceptible to his abuse and endangerment tactics. Gooby was hostile to Bruce because it’s Bruce’s fault that Gooby is now on the run from the law. Edit: I forgot to mention that some kids who suffer from abuse/trauma can turn to violence as a coping mechanism when no means of emotional support are available. This explains Bruce’s violent tendencies.

gooby is a nuisance, but moreover i think he doesn't accomplish what the writers thought he would. you can tell they intended for him to be charmingly chaotic and teach willie to let loose a little, like drop dead fred or something. but this doesn't work. first of all, willie's character flaw isn't that he's too uptight or lacks whimsy. on the contrary, he is creative and imaginative. he's just anxious and lonely. by giving him someone who he has to constantly worry about hiding from others, the writers have just exacerbated will's anxiety and isolation. gooby is also a horrible role model. he lashes out at a little boy from will's school. he makes a big mess at the store and then dips, with no care that someone is going to have to clean that up. he rejects and whines about the food and bed will offers him. he injures will or places him in danger more than once. he steals from the babysitter, causing her to get angry with will immediately after trying to empathize with him about starting at a new school. in doing all this, gooby has demonstrated mean-spirited, vindictive, and selfish behavior, and _discouraged_ kindness, charity, and general safety. gooby is a bad person for will to spend time with. if gooby was a human being will's age, his parents wouldn't want will hanging out with him lmao. what a terrible gift for shaw. i'm glad this bombed at the box office.

I read a creepypasta once called “the best school psychologist” about a kid that gets ignored by his parents and the kid goes to a psychologist who kidnaps him and makes the kids parents miss him and then releases the kid- this film reminds me a lot of that and it’s so unsettling because I was not expecting to draw these parallels in this weird kids film???
