Allen is my favorite electric guitarist. Thank you so much for doing him justice. You get it. Maybe someday you could break down a song from the rising and Collins band or the Allen Collins band. Thank you

The only time I got to see Allan play live was when they had that band going. It was great, but I wish I had seen him play with Skynyrd.

Tom I started following you for golf then saw your firebird in the background once and found your guitar channel. As someone who played in southern rock cover bands from 78 through 82 I swear you play the L.S. Songs and leads better than 99% of anyone I have ever heard. Kudos. Did you ever play Molly Hatchets version of Dreams? One of my favorite songs to play ever. By the way I play drums. So I listen to guitar and bass very closely. If you ever need a 63 yr old for a gig I will drive from Raleigh. And take a golf lesson! You are a renaissance man!!!

When the reformed Skynyrd Played Columbia in 88 I went to a meet the band thing at a local record store. Skynyrd music was playing in the background. When this song came on Ed King commented on how much he liked playing this song live.

Thanks Tom. It's was my first Allen's solo I learned on my firebird. But I didn't have the good nuances like you explain. Good job. Now I'm on Free bird. It's so hard, so fast... William

Hey Mister, you need to hand that guitar over to me..........don't make any sudden moves, walk away very slowly & peacefully.......and nobody gets hurt. LOL!!! I absolutely love your Firebird Brother!!! Such a SWEET sounding guitar. And you do some of the absolute best Skynyrd guitar work ever seen or heard by anyone. Cheers!!!

Surpried you hav'nt popped a p90 in that bridge like Allen had. Those mini's sound great though.

Yeah, I thought about it! Gibson made the newer birds with hotter mini-hums which gets the output of Allen's P90 with a little bit more creamy tone.

While it's true that Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, and even Steve Gaines just couldn't even get close to reproducing the slick licks that made up the original solo's written & performed by Ed King in songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and especially "Working for MCA"( In addition to the solo in the latter, Ed was also doing slick guitar lines all throughout the song that VERY few guitarists of any caliber can nail down, it's THAT hard........after King left the band, note how the solo's for those Ed King leads & runs were NEVER the same when attempted by the other guitarists ).......and aside from the fact that Ronnie Van Zant was indeed the core, the leader, and founder of the band.........when it comes to overall guitar technique & tone, it was none other than Allen Collins who was the backbone of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Take away all of the work done by Allen Collins, and you totally lose the Skynyrd sound. On a side note, although Steve Gaines was by far the most talented of any of the band's guitarists, plus he was a fantastic singer ( there's no doubt about the new heights Steve and his style would have taken this band, had it not been for the plane crash )..... the fact still remains that Allen Collins was indeed the root of the Skynyrd sound.

I've heard more than one guy say, it was Allen's band - including Allen himself. ;-) 'Course it was RVZ's & EVERY guitarist* had a HUGE part in the overall magic made - was 2 + 2 = 5 for sure - but that band was NEVER the same w/o Allen Collins being on stage. Period. * In the pre-crash lineups; the post crash lineups only prove the point too imho (including while EK came back - cool as that was while it lasted anyway ...)
