It's been over 3 years since the protests for Hong Kong when I was at UC Davis, and I don't intend to go back to that particular school, so I feel safe in admitting I was there when we chalked the quad in support of the Hong Kong protestors xD I won't be giving names obviously, as some of my classmates were international students from Hong Kong, and some of them might still be attending and chalking the quad is not allowed 😅 I was there for a few of the protests on campus, too. I tried to hand out chocolate (vinyl gloves so I'd never touch the food bare-handed and, of course, masks, as it was a Hong Kong protest--covid hadn't happened yet) to gain attention for the protest, but some people got upset because I had a mystery illness at the time that some (including myself) thought was the flu. Turns out I was just reacting poorly to a psychiatric medication dosage change. Ever since I realized I was misdiagnosed and stopped the meds about a year ago, the gastric issues have vanished for the most part. Edit to preemptively address questions that have been asked about this before: "Why didn't you just stay home?" Before covid, I had been taught that flaking on the people who need you was an unforgivable social sin. That idea was wrong, obviously, but I hadn't yet figured that out at the time. "Weren't you worried you'd get someone sick?" Yes, I was. That's why I took several precautions to avoid that, including getting the vinyl gloves and a thicker mask. "Why did you choose chocolate to get attention for the protest?" I'm very food-motivated, and at the time I assumed everyone else was too. At the time I wondered why other protestors hadn't already tried it. "This sounds fake. Do you have any proof that this happened?" There's a video that's been archived on the UC Davis subreddit of a Hong Kong protestor arguing with an anti-Hong Kong international student. I got anxious around the fighting, so I shouted out "does anybody want chocolate?!" as a means to deescalate. It's barely audible in the video, and I feel dumb as shit for how I acted then, but there's record of it. I'll see if I can find a link.

Argentinean here. So, I'm going to try to be the most middle ground possible about the situation since, obviously, there is a lot of history and different points of view about the entire situation, which, taking certain things out or not giving enough context is going to make things look weird Mainly, a lot of the things that Milei is doing is to take out from power the previous group that manage the entire country. A lot of the "representatives" of work unions or areas of the State were highly working for the previous government making situations work mainly on favor of them and their gaining. From the outside, this groups sound like they are actually something good, but they take advantage on the market and also profit from the state help charging a percentage from each person that is mandatorily unionized. This group of people charged and make you having to act depending their necessities and not for what is really necessary for the worker or people, leading to multiple manifestations that are more to go against whatever the previous government wanted. At the same time, Milei is aiming for a all or nothing way to fix the country, which also leads to selling important parts of the infrastructure to compensate the HORRIBLE choices other people make (which, in my opinion, you should never do, even if you really need to fix the economy since is going to be hard to get it back) A lot of the previous infrastructure and lays off from the government are because of money laundry and inside pay and work that the previous presidency did to guarantee work to friends and family, that is why those things are happening, also because a law says that if you work for certain period of time for the Gov, then you have to get a specific type of contract, which would lead to unnecessary people getting in positions of power that they don't deserve. The infrastructure was stopped because the same hospital was being promoted as new multiple times and the inflated cost was astronomical for something that was unfinished, which, talks about the corruption in the country lol There is multiple things to talk about and is not easy to set in one text, but (and this is my point of view) a lot of the people complaining about it didn't say anything in this 4 years on how the economy collapsed in such a horrible way and now, they are fighting against the current president like if he caused all this problems. The 330 DNU laws he is passing are getting fight when in reality, a lot of them are beneficial for people and economy, or they are made to take out power from groups that have full scams in highly necessary type of mechanisms to run a country Also, a lot of the protest are in Buenos Aires because the laws are removing this prestige that only they were able to enjoy like cheap transport, which the rest of the country was paying in high rates to compensate the lose in capital city

On the Khalistan issue and many issues like it, this is why we should dissolve the UN. This is a local/regional matter not a global one. This guy should not be the US making his argument he should be in Punjab. For others who don't get it, in the US no person runs to the UN for issues with America, we go to our elected representatives or we run for office to oust reps we don't want then push the agenda we ran for. The idea that these agitators can go to a foreign country to inexplicably petition for coercion or force used between nations is immoral. It is at best asking other nations to send their children to kill or be killed by some country they'd before had never had issue with. The best way to handle this is to run for office in India, vote to change the way that India works or push the separatist agenda. Hell the UK did the same thing with Brexit. There is a correct way to handle this, Nigel Farage didn't come to the US and lobby America to force the EU's hand or promise action. The American stance on Brexit went from we don't care to we get it and wish you luck to if you do it we can have a bilateral trade arrangement to help. All depending on which President was there.
