19:32 - South Australia literally had this ‘problem’ with solar October last year as well. It was too efficient and producing too much and they couldn’t export it at the time thus they were forced to literally shut off solar generation as a last resort to save the infrastructure. Nuclear is safe but it isn’t the ‘cure all’ many think it is as you need a strong river to replenish the cooling pools. You always put infrastructure where it is geographically suitable. Thus why Finland has hydro and nuclear because of it’s many lakes and rivers.

Whereas Europeans razed forests to make way for endless fields, the natives cultivated fruit bearing plants, managed game and fish populations, and grew smaller farms of hardier crops. The meme about Finland not existing is really accurate as it sounds like a utopia that doesn't exist.
@storyspren
@storyspren Жыл бұрын
I mean, the utopia for sure doesn't exist. That Olkiluoto news for example seems unlikely to have much of an effect on most people's energy bills, and with the new government (with Petteri Orpo as prime minister) it looks like there's a lot of austerity politics incoming, and education is one of the things that's been talked about a bunch. Not to mention the Finns Party (Perussuomalaiset) is part of the new government, so we can expect the rhetoric in national politics to get pretty nasty for minorities (some figures have already been spewing conspiracy theories about queer people and drag that make them sound like US Republicans). Even if the NCP (Kokoomus, the party Orpo is part of) keeps them on a leash with regard to policy (which I think they might), rhetoric inspires action. Not to mention that hearing hate speech from figures in government is pretty discouraging and will even on its own have an effect on the mental health of minorities.

I tend to be pretty judicious in what channels I subscribe to, but I appreciate that you really do seem to try and be as neutral as possible and also include news from outside the western world, which can often steal the focus in western journalism. One small nitpick/correction. Trump isn't facing 37 "charges" he is facing 37 "counts". The 1st through 31st of the counts are the same charge (and don't actually relate to classified information at all, but rather information which is crucial for national defense, this is crucial because even if Trump were to try and argue he thought they were declassified, it wouldn't matter as he ceased to have the authority to hold them as soon as Biden was sworn in). All told, Trump faces 7 charges: willful retention of national security information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corrupting concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, and scheme to conceal. Besides the first charge the remaining charges are single count but it adds up to 37 counts of 7 charges. Definitely have to dig into your archive and watch more news wrap-up videos. Keep up the great work!

@@samwill7259 yes, because just magically producing negative pollution as a planet next year won’t *just* magically instantly bring the risk of wildfires below their currently elevated levels, it will of course, as we all know, magically bring wildfires down well below the natural pre-industrial rate, and will actually approach near-zero. Like, I want you to understand that it’s not that I deny climate change or something, it’s that I specifically take issue with the fact that OP made two very real and serious points about how we can actually make future wildfires more manageable, and you went “No! You know what would be *best* for wildfires? Something that’ll only somewhat[1] reduce them to the *still* *frequent* pre-industrial era, and nothing to actually make them more manageable when they do happen!” Also pretending that that’s even a short term solution, because it’s not like we need to *just* magically stop adding to global pollution, we need to actively reduce the pollution below its current level, below what it was in 2016, and keep decreasing it to some as yet TBD point. Like if this was plastic pollution we were talking about, then sure I’m all for this stop it at the source stuff, but this is wildfires we’re talking about here, and wildfires are found to happen for as long as immature people have access to stuff like fireworks. (Except, I’ve seen some people say that if you do preventative forest care (the two things op was talking about) properly, you’ll actually struggle to even accidentally set off a fire like that.) [1]: this is in reference to the fact that the ways we have been maintaining forested areas since the Industrial Revolution probably has negative impacts here.
@MrBenMcLean
@MrBenMcLean Жыл бұрын
@@samwill7259 See it's statements like this which show that "climate change" alarmism is a religion. Lack of proper forest management is what is causing the massive wildfires. Not "climate change." A generations of stupids grew up watching "Fern Gully" which taught falsehoods about forest management and contradicted itself all over the place, and now they think logging is evil and have enacted stupid policies that let the forests grow too much. Lacking proper forest management is going to cause wildfires even if the global climate stayed completely still and never changed at all!!

It would be the largest single employer strike in american history. 6% of USA's GDP passes through UPS, ~20 million packages a day. During the pandemic, their yearly *profits _doubled_ * to ~13.9 Billion and not a single UPS worker got a cent of hazard pay. With any luck, it will be even bigger and more influential than the '97 strike, and help kickstart the labor movement this country NEEDS.

The majority of people preferred the robot voice, but it's an acceptable loss if it keeps the lights on in the swag offices.

Regarding the Twitter issue, I really am so happy that we have governments the world over paying such close attention to mean words on the internet. Truly a good use of time and tax-payer dollars. What's that? Improving education to assist in stamping out the few people who actually have ignorant ass thoughts like that? Nah, that's stupid. It's also very interesting to note that the only data they cared to talk about (at least that SS covered) was N and J. Not the two dozen other slurs out there, just those two.
