Love the Danessa Myricks Powder Blurring Balm which works on my mature, normal skin just as a one and done foundation. I apply skincare, pounce the product on, and then blend a little. No setting powder or additional foundation is necessary. I've been asked what my skin secret is. This is it.

I’m a flight attendant with dry skin, so I wear an extremely heavy daytime skincare base and try to avoid all powder complexion products when I work. They always tend to look like 💩 after an hour or two. Unfortunately, I can only layer so many dewy products before they want to slide right off my cheek, so… blurring powder balm! It has too much of a powder effect if I use it all over, but as a layer between my foundation and cream blush on my cheeks, it’s so perfect! Honestly, for anyone who uses cream blush, it’s amazing as base product that has nice slip for blending but is still sturdy enough for aggressive blending out and it makes you blush last longer. I could never use it as an all over foundation, but as primer for cream products, with some nice coverage, I’m obsessed!

I truly love the salt NY sneaky balm. I have aging (I'm 45) combo skin with lots of texture (large pores/acne scarring) & it took me decades of struggling to find something I loved. Literally everything with the exception of spot concealing, looked absolutely horrible on my skin. Concealers I didn't struggle, but "foundations"? Wow. I will be forever grateful to Kiki for creating sneaky balm & going back to create N13 for those of us who have pale bordering on translucent skin! 😭🙌

I have the Danessa myricks in number 1 and I use it almost as you would a powder, under my eyes to set concealer, on my chin for extra coverage and to clean up around my blush when I go overboard. It’s truly a magical product that I still don’t fully get though. My mum is 60 and I use it sometimes to clean up her makeup if I’m helping her and she loves the way it feels and looks. I only have one foundation, skin tint and concealer so I se it change how they look and wear. I think if you have a large collection maybe you don’t need it but it takes my Mac face and body with concealer to a undetectable medium to full coverage. I have normal skin with some acne scarring in case that helps anyone.

Love your perspective about skincare in makeup. I used to look down at cosmetic companies like Mac that really just focus on high performing products with no skincare ingredients or claims because they felt simple and less exciting. Now I tend to agree with you. I also find makeup with lots of skincare ingredients tend to go off faster maybe because of the oils/extracts etc have a much shorter shelf life.

Mon dieu!! In defense of Merit lipsticks - as a very fair/neutral slight warm tone redhead with non-model-like features (who is at 55 now officially 'mature' LOL) , I can NEVER find a shade of lipstick that works for me (eg none of the Kosas shades worked for me, even though the formula is great). The Merit lipsticks are my holy grail! L'avenue is what I wanted Kosas' Darkroom to be. The only ones that don't work are the shades that are obviously for cooler tones - Fashion and Millenium. All hail brown shaded smudgy sweet lippies!

I’m 50 with dry skin. It took me a while to figure out the DM blurring balm, but now I love it. I apply after moisturizer and SPF, just using my finger to dab a small amount on areas of darkness, redness, or large pores. It blurs, evens out skin tone, and takes the SPF shine down. I either leave it at that, or layer a small amount of concealer. No foundation needed. The key for me is a light layer of balm only in key areas, rather than all over my face. My dry skin loves it. ❤

I have combo/oily skin and as far as the Danessa Myricks Balm Powder goes I use it in a couple of ways. I use it as my foundation and in that case I'll use my fingers or a dense brush to blend. To me it's not super matte at first but does hold really well throughout the day. I use it as an eye primer sometimes and it works well that way. I'll use it over foundation on my t zone after doing all of my other complexion products. On days where my eyeshadow is finicky I've used it to blend the edges. Like most of the DM foundations less is more.

I use the Danessa Myricks blurring balm because I’m oily af and it’s a dream to put on a light base that controls for that. I basically use it as my base every day for light coverage, kind of down the middle of my face for color correction, blurring, and oil control. I don’t put it in the areas I use blush and highlighter so I don’t have to worry about layering anything over it, so I can’t speak to that. But for me it’s a holy grail product because I never have to powder or blot with it. I’m the kind of oily where I do my makeup, including powder, and I usually have to powder or blot within the hour. I’ve been this way my whole life, it’s hereditary. Upside is I have very few wrinkles at 53. 🎉

It just perfects but you need a light hand and i found sonja G jumbo base brush best to apply it. Its great for no make up / lighter mak up days and just over SPF I found if you use it as a typical foundation balm (like the KVD good apple) and pack it on it looks terrible. I dont think you can use it as a typical foundation. I personally LOVE it. One of the best products i own. I think if youre not oily / combo its prob not your jam

So I've never had an oily skin problem, so I worried that the DM yummy skin balm might not work for me but it's a keeper. I use it over moisturizer & sunblock as foundation. I've applied it with fingers and with Rephr brushes pouncing it on. Phytosurgence blush on top. I don't even really use concealer with it, though granted, I only use concealer to brighten dark areas under my eyes and not for blemish coverage. It's in my travel makeup arsenal because I can use the scoop to portion off just enough to pack into a shallow travel container. Love it.

I'm also quite pale, with rosacea, so fjords colors are not usually my friend (they just look like my redness is bad).I'd reallllllly love a light enough, neutral-y type of blush. Adding myself to team oily/combo skin , I find denessa myricks to be what I reach for over tower 28 and uoma beauty foundation. I can skip primer and even concealer with just using Becca’s under eye corrector beforehand if I want a low maintenance routine and lightly powder with bite’s finishing pressed powder or equivalent tinted powder. I can build up coverage or just add concealer but haven’t used as a primer and then add foundation yet. I use one of the medium shades and find it works well one it’s own as a skin match. The balm also plays nicely with cream or powder blush/bronzer and has streamlined my base routine to let me focus on avoiding eye makeup mishaps. Still struggling to cure oil eyelids eating through tubing /waterproof mascaras and creating prolific smudging.

I have WA stick, DM powder balm and Salt sneaky balm (MB is on the way to me as we speak). I do agree with all of your sensory assessments, and would have to say DM is probably not for you/your skin type. I have mature and combo skin and DM sits right between the other two for me coverage-wise. I use it as my base, either stipple it with a dense foundation brush or just swipe with my fingers. sometimes only in the middle/oily parts of my face (the rest bare foundationwise), sometimes all over (in that case the outer parts of my face with a darker shade - 3 is my regular shade and i use 6 as my "contour/outer" shade). I do not use a primer (my sunscreen is enough for that), i may or may not use a pinpoint concealer after it, and I definitely do not powder. It stays put and keeps me from shining without drying out completely either. I tend to use cream bronzer and blush after that. For me it is amazing. (just for the record the WA is more of a (spot-)concealer for me and sneaky balm is almost allover for an absolute undetectable look, a true "my skin but better" situation.)

I wanted to love the Danessa Myricks Powder Blurinf balm but it has some highly comedogenic ingredients in it (I believe it was olive oil..?) and so even though I have very oily skin it clogged my pores and broke me out so I couldn’t understand why they would use an oil like that in a product targeted towards oily skin which often breaks out easily

I have oily combo skin, I use the DM balm like a foundation. I don’t think it controls oils. And the blurring is just ok. Similar to the Tatcha balm primer. Sometimes the DM gives me polka dot pores. It’s just ok.

That sounds more like a mixing/layering problem. Do you use it over anything or is this on bare skin?

I personally haven't tried the danessa myricks but I know too much mouth here on KZfaq loves it as a primer. She has oily skin and it keeps the oil from breaking through. I think she uses the translucent one but I couldn't swear to it.

I’ve heard that the house labs powder does not hold up at all for people with oily skin like the Kosas does. Haven’t seen enough about the make powder yet though!

I loooove this serie! Would you be open to helping a subscribe not decide between two products, but rather find out what undertone they might have? I am really not an expert in color theory and have never been able to understand what my undertone might be based on how colors turns on me (ex everything turns orange, in a way blush often turns pink on u)

This might just be me….but I don’t really like when companies put both a chemical and a physical sunscreen in a product. There’s a lot of research out there that suggests that combining both decreases their efficacy. Also, I feel like both types have specific drawbacks (physical the white cast and chemical the eye irritation), so I’d rather pick a struggle. I dunno. Maybe just me.
