Charlie looks just like my violet ❤ and she is a tough girl hanging out with my gold tops and polish hens instead of the other silkies, first time she's got broody in over a year, only thing that snaps her out of it is literally sleeping in my bed with me 😅, I'm getting a group of quail tomorrow that someone hatched thinking they could sell them easily so unwanted now but I never turn any animal in need of a home x

Aww, Charlie is a sweet little bird! Good on you for opening your heart and home for chicken in need, Chicken politics is often awful and seems so unjust. It breaks my heart to see sisters fighting, but that's what they have to do. What a relief it turned out so much less stressful than expected. You are the chicken whisperer, Madam President, and your grace shines like the morning sun upon your flock.

Loved this video!! It is very helpful for newbies and oldies:). I know even experienced keepers can get discouraged. I’ve had to carry a broom at times and just park a chair in the backyard, while they acclimate. Obviously not to hit anyone, but to break up the bigger attacks. Integration is not easy, for sure.

I brought 2 old hens into our flock 2 months ago . They out lived their owner… it was 3 days they were caged and our flock grew again. I Love this video! I’ve learned so much from you and I appreciate you! I’m home all day; so I’m with my gals. We also have ducks 3 Indian runners and 3 khaki’s . After the 3 days we brought out the old ladies out with ours… beautiful momma (Wyandot) and feather foots ( her breed starts with a b) ( bantam?)brain fart lol both were separated on their old homestead. Though we can’t keep them together everyday in a coop or in the run, in my backyard together they do very well. and everyone gets along well. ♥️ It’s working out. And all our gals are spoiled. 🥰 I’m only into 4 years of keeping chickens. No roosters here - 1 year with our 6 ducks. I Love it!

Her little posture to you warmed my heart ♥️ We have a new mini rooster who we’re having trouble with. We lost our sweet boy a couple of months ago to heart failure, devastating. We knew our girls needed a new man. But boy, he’s something else. Gorgeous! And a bully. He terrorizes our standard size hens. To the point of ripping at their combs & drawing blood & pulling out head feathers of the alpha hen (my favorite of course). He’s not mating, just hurting. He’s down right abusive. He’s amazing with the littles & they adore him. We know we need to rehome him & that’s a bummer because otherwise he’s a great rooster.

Great advice to separate/quarantine!! And to be home all day when you let the bird out. It may be easier to integrate her with a subpopulation first than with the whole flock (and the roosters). She doesn't know how to chicken! We had a kitten that grew up with our dog, he didn't know he was a cat until we got another cat. Even years later he still had more dog like tendencies. My year old hens are getting chased around from my main, 19 week old rooster. Doing what roosters do, they are not so submissive to him. They don't want to free range in the area of the yard where he hangs out at. He will chase them down, for mounting. I've never had roosters before and am wondering when/if the older hens will accept him as the boss of the flock. Thank you for the update, I love seeing all of your chicken varieties.

We feel your pain...we had a beloved rooster who was so gentle and kind to us and his girls...he was from our first ever flock. Our kids loved on him every single day. He died the night after Christmas, and we arent sure why, but we brought him in the house from the cold, and talked to him and told him what a good boy he was. When he passed, I took it harder than even the kids did, and cried for days. Losing little innocent feather family members is heart wrenching😢😢. I just want to remind anyone having to integrate chickens to not give up. It literally took me over 4 months to finally do so with my miss fancy. It was horrible to watch them pick on her to the point they drew blood and she would play dead. Talk about stress! Many times I would go to the coop and see her flopped over like she was dead but no she was just waiting for the other girls to be let out, then she would make a mad dash for me. But it’s been a solid 4 nights with her in the coop at night with no issues. I used the dog kennel in the coop method , during the day they all free ranged with no issues. So hang in there guys it’ll eventually happen!

She even hatched out 14 Polish Silkie hybrids & they’re like lil piranhas when it comes to food hanging from a rope like corn on the cob or a head of lettuce & my polish babies barely have a clue it’s food like it’s too much work to have to jump for food lol. “Ya I be trying to train my chickens to do tricks lol” & it’s been fun have a few of them jumping nearly shoulder height for a bite of a slice of bread “they love the everything buns lol”

You don't have to get rid of your birds just because you have to take to the road. I have three two young very inbred polish and one extremely cross beaked non standard Americana hen. As long as you have a lead bird who knows everything but can't really hurt anyone like a cross beaked Americana that bird will buffer individual birds as you add them. You still have to do slow introduction and not leave people alone by themselves at first but Then after awhile of helping everyone emotionally regulate themselves it works out.

I really want to just put the eggs under my broody hen who’s been patiently waiting on another egg (not gonna hatch). Is it unsafe to take the eggs from a controlled climate & put them out with her today?. I mean, after all, she too is a controlled climate 😂. Big question... The rooster/hen ratio is driving me crazy. We have a separate coop and run for our small and Bantam birds (Araucana, Cochin, Silkies, Sebright, Paduanas and mixes). The thing is that Blacky, a young Bantam Cochin Rooster is being hormonal and mean with our Silkie rooster (only two males) and not even Lachesis is working and I feel bad because I had to separate him with one female he is nice to, but leave the other 9 hens and the Silkie rooster in their coop and run. Blacky is living temporarily in my quarantine coop, but I feel so bad because I need to decide what to do and I wish they could all live in on area peacefully. Any ideas? I have a broody Silkie on eggs and two British Ameraucana females will be joining this group in about a month... What to do?

Are they drawing blood on each other? You could try the flower essence vine and/or chicory. My top rooster Zorro can be a jerk to my other two roos but as long as he’s not drawing blood on them I just try to give them a lot of enrichment and space. With roosters one is always going to be on top and it can be a challenge.

Good morning ☀️. Today is my day to integrate my 23 week old bantams (4 hens and a roo) with my 4 standard hens (13 months old). I will have plenty of celery on sticks and watermelon for distractions. That roo is protective of his flick so thinking I should put him in last. They have been side by side for 5 months. What are your thoughts??? Any other words of wisdom??? I have three Easter Egger hens and a duckling that are 3 weeks old. I will leave them inside for now. But, for the other 9 it’s THE GREAT INTEGRATION and I’m scared but going for it. Any advise is welcome, please.

I know hens show dominance but i was upset to see my hen mount the other about an hour ago. Im nervouse to combine the flock since these two hens are standard size and the rest are bantams. This hen is loud too, i want my sablepoot rooster to be top bird and for the ameracauna hen to stop being so dominant, i want her loud crows to stop. Truthfully i just want everyone to get along, but im more than certain my sablepoot roo will dominate the duccle rooster. Is it too risky having two roosters in a flock as well as a large dominant hen, or would it all work itself out?
