WTF! NO WAY! You guys are in for a treat! This show is a stone cold classic! See you space cowboy... Addendum: technically, the CB movie is not at the end but takes place between episodes 22 & 23. I would really really suggest watching the movie between those two episodes. Trust me.

So excited to see you guys are watching this! I agree with Morgan that this is a comfy anime, I've watched it over so many times. Fun Fact! The woman who voices Zahra in the Legend of Vox Machina, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, was the Voice Director for the English dub of Cowboy Bebop! Thanks to her and her connections in voice acting, this is arguably one of the best anime dubs ever made. She also plays a character you will meet later!

Sure those fat cat patrons have already said this but the show is one of the most interesting artistic achievements in Anime. the three main people behind its style the writer, the director and the composer were basically giant Americana fans in Japan who took as much Western influence as Eastern to create this fun cool show. It is the best intro to anime for Westerners at least at the time and if you're not a little kid.

Shinichirō Watanabe is the creator of Cowboy Bebop. He also created another classic anime called Samurai Champloo. Highly recommend that as well if you enjoy this show.

You guys might like Outlaw Star. Sci-fi western theme too but with fantasy elements. Both the manga and anime only came out a few months before Cowboy Bebop. They're both excellent in their own ways.

I dunno. Never really got the impression that Trigun was narratively comperable to Bebop. I thought it was alright overall and creative in its world, but quite repetitive and thematically shallow.

@@creativebeetleThen I recommend you to watch Trigun Stampede because it has incredible animation plus the classic Trigun goodness. Also the first season is the prequel to the og Trigun, the next season is in the works which will adapt the complete story

It's never directly said aloud in show, but Cowboy is in-universe slang for a bounty hunter, and as you discovered Bebop is the name of the ship. Bebop is also a musical genre and I think its meant to like describe the...FEEL ofthe show but I could jsut be being pretentious. SO yeah its a show about 'cowboys' who fly around on the Bebop encountering bullshit. and yeha I remember this ending making me feel very SAD. I wanted spike to save the poor lady. :c Don't expect the villains in this show in general to have that much depth. some do,but most are just bad people. It works in the show's favour I feel. Cause sometimes you jsut wanna see our anti-heroes take down some scumbags.

I am just astonished this is one of the best anime of all time. There are so many layers to this story. Listen closely to the song with the end credits, The Real Folk Blues. Watch for clues in these early episodes. Things are not what they seem. And this first episode is like an anticipation of or hinting at the main plot threads through most of the series.

One of the most underrated parts of this series (and understandably so, the rest of the show is so good) is the technical art. Every ship, every vehicle, every building or construction oozes personality and a solid grasp of technology.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen this, but I never noticed before how Spike punching Asimov @13:01 is a visual callback to Asimov dodging the bullet @9:45. If you haven’t seen it yet, you may be interested in Firefly; live action from the early 2000’s. It was inspired in part by Bebop. Not super heavily, but you can see the echos. Question: you didn’t mention it in the video, so I’m curious: does the name “Asimov” mean anything to you?

YEEESSSSSSS immediately liked the vid For the live action I actually liked the actors and how they portrayed the characters. It was mostly the story writing that was my gripe. From what I heard the production studio that worked on the CB live action is the same for the One Piece love action which was pretty good

Heh. "Unfortunate" is a generous way to describe the Netflix series. The aesthetics of this show were a big influence on Firefly as well. Unfortunately that meant when they made a live-action remake, it ended up feeling like a Firefly ripoff. So not only was it recursive, it wasn't even that good.

This show was barely noticed in the anime world until the english dub. The dub adds so much to the coolness, and it changed the shows fate, and all of anime in the process. So you can thank the voice director, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, for making it work. She's still kicking ass as the voice director of Vox Machina, and voice of Zahra. ❤

The native American thing is less a cliche and more about Destiny, the soul and some of the more philosophical discussions that happen throughout. Sort of the remnants of Earth's culture in this artificial dystopian future in the stars.
