I’m wondering if you would consider switching to the English dub for this anime. Many would agree that this is one of the rare anime that are better in the English dub. Outside of that in term of viewership (this is based on my own observations, so correct me if I’m wrong) reactions of this show in English tend to have more views then the ones in the original Japanese. Just a suggestion. PS: Happy to see y’all react to this show.

Agreed. The only anime I've actually watched with a dub.

It does, however, skip/condense some of the early manga material that the original series included, which is part-and-parcel of the second iteration starting in medias res.

@@etepeteseat7424 and by some, 2 chapters. That's it. up to the point they split, nothing else is meaningfully altered from the manga. And even then, the only thing they completely cut was the train-hijacking which the Issac Plot serves a similar purpose for (introducing all the same characters that chapter did, while also being the result of a disgruntled war-veteran turned terrorist, albeit one who was more pissed off at their treatment after their crippling injuries and didn't know anything about the greater plot going on (who cameos during the Rush Valley episode)). And they basically flipped Youswell and the Back-story. The Back-story we're told in bits and pieces till we get the whole picture, while Youswell is told directly. Mean while in brotherhood we're given the backstory directly and told how Youswell happened in bits and pieces. Personally i think the only real improvement to Brotherhood would be put the episodes in proper order (3 becomes 1, the backstory is replaced by Youswell and we're told the backstory in bits and pieces over time), Youswell in episode 2, then the Issac plot in episode 3 with all the dialog they copied from episode 1 replaced with more world building/foreshadowing. (the weakest part of brotherhood episode 1 is that 50% of the dialog is stolen directly from the real episode 1 which is then repeated in episode 3).

@@ZanathKariashi Yeah, one of my main problems with early Brotherhood is the redundancy of information in episodes 1-3. It ruins episode 3 imo because by that point all the subtlety of that storyline is gone, it's just bashing you over the head with the same info you've gotten in the past two episodes. It makes that storyline feel very amateurish, like the show thinks its clever with the Rose parallel lol. That storyline works best in the manga because we know _nothing_ about the Elric brothers at that point, so learning about them indirectly via Rose's parallel situation is engaging. I prefer the manga's method of drip feeding info on their backstory until it all comes out when they meet Izumi over both of the animes' versions, but 2003 is the better of the two. The manga's drip feed method improves many of the early episodes since they suffer from the same problem episode 3 does, just to a far less degree.

Actually, no. Brotherhood was made while the manga was still ongoing and even got to the point where the manga author had to share notes with the anime team about how she was going to end it because they were close to the end of the manga. Brotherhood ended one month after the manga did in 2010.

I agree the dubbed cast did an amazing job with the voices also I love it when the reactors also watch the blooper reel that was created by the Dubbed voice actors when they finish the series, its hilarious!

Maybe for people who are new to anime, but for everyone else it's just another shonen. Way too goofy and too many anime tropes to enjoy it as an adult. I'd rather watch zankyou no terror, dorohedoro or mushoku tensei instead of this mediocreness.

@@lisamarieschnee started watching anime in 80s and FMAB story still holds up after almost 20 years. And really Moushoku Tensei? The most generic isekai where people justify children having sex because ones actually 40 year old Virgin. That's something simpy teens enjoy and an actuL adult would find disturbing

@@lanternstylez If you think that the anime justifies your claim, you haven't payed attention or you just didn't understand it. You have been watching since the 80's but I guess it was only generic shonen shows because otherwise you would recognize a complex written character in a seinen story.

@@lisamarieschnee I read the manga for MT and dropped it not long after the time skip. As for FMAB the point was that it us goated for a reason. There's nothing generic at all. Look up any Google search and it's consistently in the top 3 more than any other. There's a reason why it won best manga of 2004 and why majority of people consider it a complete master piece. @@lanternstylez So you are not just telling me that you didn't watch MT, but also experienced the story in the worst possible way which is the manga. It's either anime or LN. Yeah FMAB is at the top on the MAL charts but just because every anime that surpasses it gets reviewbombed. The FMAB fanbase is literally the most toxic fanbase (besides the one piece kids) because they can't get over the fact that there are way better anime now. FMAB is liked by everyone who watched it because everything the show does is satisfactory. Nothing stands out that can be seen as bad or a dealbreaker (except maybe the comedy). It's an entry level anime which doesn't do anything wrong, but at the same time there isn't anything outstanding about it either. From kids to teens, to old people, everyone can enjoy it. But it's not more then "pretty good". Nothing stands out. Every theme is kept to a normal level which is the reason why there is nothing controversial about FMAB. There are tons of shows that are "pretty good" but don't stand out. I'm more into the stuff that dials everything to 120% and gives you complex and multilayered characters and stories. FMAB is not it.

I mean I'm going to have to disagree because Attack on Titan is definitely better than this, but it's still a really good show

IMO AOT is my favorite anime. FMAB is probably objectively the BEST anime.

I think that might be a bit much. It might be all those things to an anime lover, but the heavy anime elements would be a turn off to some who don't actually care for the genre. The cutesy cliche elements of anime I mean. Stand Alone complex would be better i think.

@@Brennsunn idk I just feels like it’s checks the box that is more universally accepted in a good anime. Maybe can be too kiddy at points but also super dark in others. The story and characters are fleshed out that I think more often than not you’ll enjoy it

Now, I may prefer the dub, but the original Japanese cast is great. Furthermore, show some respect to Romi Park, she also does the voice of Hange in Attack on Titan.

Actually, it's maybe just your bias as English speaker. As not native in English or Japanese, English doesn't sound like a teenage boy at all. And Mei is really annoying, sounds like granny pretending to be a little girl
