Nice! I was wondering, based on the hint in a recent video of yours, whether we would finally have a reliably working mmwave presence detection sensors.😃 When we were building the smart research (lab pre-COVID times), we had assessed various sensors and technologies (BT - not accurate at all to be used in medical setting) and ended up going with a vendor using mmwave based presence sensors (almost 20 of them for the entire lab). After getting frustrated with the (lack of) accuracy offered by BT presence detection sensors, the mmwave sensors were amazing. Furthermore, the product we implemented included additional sensors that Cohorts participating in the study would wear on a lanyard to enable the scientists in uniquely identifying each subject. That is one feature that I currently see missing from this Aqara sensor - I would be curious if you might know (or reach out to your Aqara contacts) whether they might be able to offer this kind of functionality via a hardware sensor or some software integration (e.g. user's registererd phone) to accurately identify a person detected by the sensor? I mean @5:30 into the video, would you really want Aly to listen to your playlist if, for some perfectly valid reason, she sat down in your chair? 😇😊 Also, any idea if multiple such Aqara sensors could talk to each other (I know, niche use case scenario but could be useful). And yeah - the price premium for a commercially available sensor offering features not many (if any) other competing sensors currently offer is a bit high (IMHO) where only users who really know how good this technology compared to other competing technologies might consider. And even then, someone like me might think hard and twice about exactly how many of these I might want and which specific use case scenario in a home - whereas regular presence sensors are much easier to decide due to them being so inexpensive. Plus, FP1 can still be ordered via AliExpress for almost half the price and get (almost?) all the features? Great video as always. 👍

Yup! This would be a great replacement for pressure sensors that are super DIY right now for detecting when you are in bed or sitting on the couch. Would be great if you could overlap zones slightly, so if you were moving from the couch to the dining table it would have it illuminated in advance and you're not walking into a dark room for any amount of time.
@SmartHomeSolver

Hey Jesse! Yes I agree that it's a better replacement for pressure sensors. Factoring all the costs that this one sensor can replace makes it more reasonable.

Maybe 2 in one room could achieve this. One showing the middle zone with some overlap on the second one showing the outside zones. But yet it would be good if the app allowed overlapping zones!

Something I love about this sensor is the look. I HATE placing my Hue motion sensor in the bathroom or other private areas, because people who haven't seen it before will DEFINITELY think it's a camera (due to the big white ball poking out of the middle). Having to explain it to everyone who visits me is both a little creepy and somewhat unbelievable lol. "Hey guys, just so you know I PROMISE this totally isn't a camera peaking on you in the bathroom, just a harmless motion sensor" 😂

I'm only using the fp1 but even that is a game changer! I'd been trying for years to find a good solution for smart lighting in our office where my husband and I both play video games. Motion sensors don't work because we're sitting and I've tried IOT link on my computer but it's buggy and hasn't been working with home assistant for months. These aqara fp sensors are crazy accurate at knowing when were in the room! I haven had the lights turn off on me ONCE. I haven't even set up zone detection yet either. I can't wait to set that up so Home Assistant can know if my husband is at his desk. That's something I've never been able to automate before because asking him to get IOT link would just be a hassle

@@ParodieHecker-mobile Yeah, my surname is definitely Germanic. I think you'll find mmwave sensors, in general, have little difficulty seeing through most walls, although it will have it's limits. Between my condo and my neighbors is little more than drywall, lumber, and insulation and I feel confident without proper placement and configuration it would trigger on my neighbor's motions. Or even within my house the motion from an adjacent room could easily bleed through.

To add the FP2 to Home Assistant you need to do the following steps: 1. Add the FP2 to HomeKit through the Aqara App. 2. Setup your motion zones in the Aqara App. 3. Remove any of the FP2 sensors from within the Apple Home app. Removing one will remove all of them. 4. It should discover the FP2 within HomeAssistant using the HomeKit Controller integration, and you just need to enter the Apple HomeKit device code found on the FP2. It will automatically sync the zones you previously created, and any future changes in the Aqara app for zones will propagate to Home Assistant.

Live in Florida with ceiling fans in multiple rooms. How well, if at all, does this work with ceiling fans in the room?

It would have been nice to mention in the title or at least in the beginning of the video that Aqara FP2 is a "presence" sensor? For someone who's not across the Aqara's product line, it took me some time to understand what this sensor actually is.

Can you share the script/HomeKit setup where you auto turn off and turn on the light please? I’ve been trying to do an automation similar but with an ac but with no luck.

Great video, not sure if this is possible. Can we have a zone defined and whenever someone walks in to the zone, pause the TV? My kids usually go near the TV while they are excited, we have to keep saying “go back to couch”. This can be a great help

I bought this thinking it was going to be an amazing product, specially with that price tag, but the issues with ghosting make it extremely unreliable for any serious application. The most recent patch did not completely fix the ghosting issues, as was promised... so I am finding myself running the absence training over and over.

Is there a dim option rather than just on/off? To make it more "fluid" and atmospheric?

Are those smart pin lights in 6:15? How did you set it up to work with aqara?

I wonder if you could make an automation for example, if your in the dinning room, to dim the kitchen lights and turn on the dinning room lights and vice versa.
