Weather in Iceland during the winter can be challenging. Especially if you live in the cabin in the mountains of Troll Peninsula in North Iceland. Here's my da in life, cleaning the snow around the house and reminiscing about the strongest storm I've ever experienced few years ago, which as the title suggests buried my tiny home completely.

One of the things I miss about living in a climate that has snow in the winter is the quiet that you get with snow. There's something about that kind of quiet that calms me to the core. So I love seeing your winter videos, because it brings back memories of snowy nights in the quiet with the stars overhead. Where I live now is great and I love it, but we seldom get snow and when we do, it melts almost immediately. If I were younger, I'd want to be your neighbor.

Thank you for sharing Patricia :) I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. Honestly I love this weather, even though it can be challenging sometimes (2019 was too much even for me haha) but every now and then I think about finding myself a second home somewhere just a bit warmer where I could escape at least the first dark months of the winter. Will see what the future brings :)

Hi Jan, wow, what a great video. The contrast of the White Snow and the Slate Gray of your house and White windows was stunning. I think that indoor and outdoor lights helped as well. The snow looks beautiful on camera and it is good that you are young and strong to deal with it. With the weather so cold it is amazing that you were able to capture the Drone footage. So glad that you inserted the photos from the storm in 2019 as a picture is worth 1,000 words. Take Care and stay safe and warm.

Hello Ben! Thank you, this was a fun video to put together, I love this weather even though it can be challenging at times. Sometimes I might be pushing the drone's limits too much, but so far it's been performing very well I have to say. But I've heared many not so lucky stories, so that's always in the back of my mind and so I always make sure to do only a few minutes in the air and quickly come back. Best regards from Tröllaskagi!

Oh, Jan! I’m so jealous of the beautiful place where you live - we’ve had a couple of thigh-high snows during my lifetime here in Maryland and in Brooklyn, New York, where I grew up. Luckily, I was younger and still excited about going outside and shoveling, calling to neighbors, building snowmen, and having snowball fights. Now, as I’ve mentioned before, snow in my yard, driveway, and street does not excite me, especially since I am the only person here to shovel. It used to be that teenagers would walk down the street with their shovels and eagerly want to earn some money. Now, you cannot even hire a company to shovel! I am glad you are in good shape and can do all the hard work. I love looking at your landscape and dreaming…

Thank you for sharing this Mary! I love this weather but 2019 was too much even for me haha! Honestly I might move to a warmer country when I’m older, but for now i like it here very much :) It’s sad that nobody can come and help you. Back when I was a kind i would have been so grateful to earn few extra bucks to help someone shovel the snow… glad you’re enjoying my videos and sending my best from Tröllaskagi :)

Hi Jan, I'm just SO impressed by the quality you produce, I feel privileged being able to share Northern Iceland virtually. But you just frustrated me (unbeknownst): Here in Bavaria, we had some very heavy snow in December, my whole garden was 75 cm deep and all our shrubs were buried. I went outside with two big casseroles and filled them with snow. This snow I used to make my tea, boiling it in the kettle. Why don't you do this? Use a big cooking utensil to gather the snow and that's your drinking water. It's quite okay - look, I'm here talking to you having drunk just boiled snow for a week, I'm not dead. Maybe the spring will freeze???

Thanks a lot buddy! Haha yeah I know, trust me I tried many things. It turned out that it gets tireing to always be melting a water and having to think about it if you need to do it for some 7 months a year. And as you know it takes a lot of snow to get few litres. Now this way i bring 30l of water i’m all set for a week or so. Since i live here it hasn’t frozen over so i hope it will stay like this haha

You're right about the snowmelt - there, you do need patience, because a 10 litre casserole filled with snow will make 0,75 litre of water - one needs a production line of melting casseroles to melt all the snow in one's kitchen. @@janiniceland

OMG that was a lot of snow! Really hard work to remove it 👍But why cant you melt some snow for drinking water? 🤔
@janiniceland

I might get a snow blower in the future 😄 I tried that, but it works a short term solution but gets tireing after a while. You need to melt a looot of snow to get a good amount of water and even then it isnt as clean as the one from the spring. Truest me, I tried everything and so far it is worth the short walk to the spring once in a week hah

Hello Jan, Wow that is a lot of snow. We don’t have that in the Netherlands. We had about a week ago a few cm for one day. Can you not melt the snow for drinking water? I like to see your videos. Sad your GoPro died. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Thank you so much! I honestly tried, but it is way too much work - you need to melt a lot of snow to get a good amount of water. But its not too bad to go and get it , I usually have to refill the water like once a week :)

Awazing video, I’m here in Australia melting away through our summer, I have never seen snow🤪. Just a question, why not just melt the snow for drinking water. Hope that’s not a silly question. Love your content, stay warm!!
@janiniceland

Hi Craig! Thanks! Haha you should experience it sometimes, snow is fun 😅 Not a silly question, many people ask me that. And trust me i tried it :D For example to get basically like 2l of water you need to melt a looot of snow and that would mean I would need a some huge pot or barel which I have no space for and it also takes time to melt all the snow. Considering the winter lasts 6 months+ this wold be a waste of time and effort for me and it's faster to just go and get a water from the stream once a week :)

@@janinicelandwell now that makes complete sense to me. I hear in Iceland even the tap water is very pure! I actually plan potentially to travel to Iceland in October this year as I love flying my drones and there looks to be some epic scenery there. Don’t think I will see snow there at that time however. Thanks again for coming back to me and thanks for your wonderful content you must work so hard on. Stay safe and warm my friend!!

I wish to be there instead of here... I would help you shoveling too😂😍 Thats a dream life you got there. Edit : I have seen Videos where people remove snow on roofs with ropes.. They basically cut along the roof with a rope and it crashes down. Just an idea.. Maybe check it out
