So sad to hear of Loretta Lynn's passing. She was a country legend & singer song writer who's music has spanned 6 decades. She was also friends with the great late Patsy Cline. Her younger sister Crystal Gayle also is a great singer. She grew up dirt poor & stayed humble & true to her roots. The autobiographical movie "Coal Miner's Daughter" is worth looking at.

Yes Patsy and Loretta were definitely best friends. Patsy actually discovered Loretta while listening to a live radio show while recouperating in the hospital from a bad car accident. Patsy let Loretta open some shows for her.Loretta was absolutely devastated when Patsy died. She even named one of her daughters after her. Other great Loretta songs.. "you ain't woman enough to take my man" "fist city" "the pill" "don't come home a drinking with living on your mind" Loretta wrote all her own songs too.

She didn't quite write all her own songs (for example, "One's On the Way" was written by Shel Silverstein) but she did write many, and her very first single, "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl" was the first or among the first written and recorded by a female country artist to chart (which it did at No. 14 on Billboard Country). She was influenced by Patsy Cline, famous for bossing her own recording sessions (often with a child on her knee).

She was a real country singer/songwriter. This song is about her life growing up.There was a movie made about her life called “Coal Miner’s Daughter “. Luckily, she had a long and successful life despite the hardships.

She has a 2nd book she wrote after Doo died. She was a little more honest about Doo's anger and all. Didn't throw him under the bus. I read "Coal Miner's Daughter." Both books read like she spoke. I read Dolly's autobiography and Patsy's bio. Interesting! "Coal Miner's Daughter" is one of my favorite movies.

They were on top during their time. Patsy died early in a plane crash, leaving a small but wonderful catelog of work. Loretta lived a long life and had a great career. They were pioneers for female country artists. True legends. Another legend who preceded them was Kitty Wells, the first country female superstar. Among her hits was IT WASN’T GOD WHO MADE HONKY TONK ANGELS, an answer to a hit song WILDSIDE OF LIFE by Hank Thomson. Playing the two songs together would make a great video.

They were literally dirt poor. Loretta got married to her husband when he was 22 and she was 15! According to the movie Coal Miners Daughter, hubs eventually realized she could sing, he got her a guitar, took her to bars to sing for the crowd, paid for a cheap recording at a studio, and drove her to many many radio stations to get the stations to play it. She had a volatile life, but she was strong. And she made it ❤

Actually she was 13 when they got married, but because the Commonwealth of Kentucky law said they needed parental permission and even though they were married by a preacher, the preacher did not take it to the courthouse, so they married again when she was 15 and no longer needed parental permission. I know people were really trying to make a huge deal about it, but that happened so frequently back then, especially with young people. The marriage certificate people found it actually the second one with her dad's name on it. In the movie, they directed Levon Helm to do what Ted Webb did, walk away, so he didn't sign the first one. But his name is on the "official" record. That is why she can say she was 13 because she had her first daughter when she was almost 15. The most prevailing reason why a preacher or justice of the peace or clerk of courts would not turn in the ones for young people, it was because they felt that the kids would get tired and leave each other. Remember, you are not born, married or dead unless the government says you are.

Facts!! I’ve vivid memories of my parents giving me a coin for the jukebox in a restaurant we’d go to every Sun afternoon. Excitedly, I skipped right up, scanned my choices, dropped the coin, made my selection, & skipped back to the table… arriving just in time to see my Dad drop his fork & the blood drain from his face. Bwahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My Song of The Day to blast through the dining room: The Pill. 😂😂😂 Daddy was MAD. Mama was trying not to laugh😅 You are 💯 correct… Loretta spoke power to things; she made women feel empowered & emboldened w/o even realizing it, & did it while maintaining her sweet demeanor. Sweet & Salty one might say🥰

Loretta didn’t just break barriers in country music, she blew them the f*** up! From women’s rights, to hugging Charlie Pride at the awards show when she was told not to stand next to him because it wouldn’t look good for a white woman to be seen with a black man. When he won that award she whispered in his ear, “Tell them to kiss your black ass, honey” She was a legend, and her greatest achievements might’ve been outside of the 100’s of hit songs she wrote. You should listen to Van Lear Rose album that was produced by Jack White. Also, find videos of him talking about her. He loved her like his own mother

Miss Loretta was true country and a groundbreaker. She was the first woman to receive a certified gold album for 1967's Don't Come Home a' Drinkin'. She was the first female country artist to write her own songs. She was the first female to receive ACM Entertainer of the Year. First female country artist to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. She was very true to herself and how she was raised. She even refused to sit on Dean Martin's lap because her momma told her to never sit in a man's lap. It's one thing to listen to her music, but to understand the woman, listen to some of her interviews or interviews about her. She was a remarkable woman. She preformed well into her 80s even having to be held up by those around her.

What makes these early country singers so unique from those of today is that they actually lived the kinds of lives they sang about and many of their songs were written from personal experience. Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were two true Queens of Country.

A few nites ago l rewatched the movie, "Coal Miners Daughter" & then watched Dolly Parton in "9 to 5". I just saw an interview on youtube. They asked Loretta how(Holliwood) got almost all of her real life story right. Loretta said she won't sign the contract til she saw the script & approved it. Not everything is in the movie. They left out a lot of sad stuff that happened to Loretta. She said she didn't want people leaving the theaters/drive-ins feeling sad. Smart Lady, our Miss Loretta. I sure do miss her. Country Radio ban 14 of her songs. Each time they did this, the song would become a hit & the radio stations would have to start playing it. Loretta wrote about her life & many female fans felt the same as Loretta did. Loretta became the voice for all women. You're gonna discover many great female & male Legends in Country Music who can sing their hearts out. No autotune back then....just real voices. Many, many songs in Country Music were about story telling. I LOVE a good story song.

She actually holds the record for most songs banned by country music radio stations. She wrote songs that dealt with real life situations. Some of her songs you should react to are One's on the Way, The Pill, Don't come home a Drinking with loving on your mind, fist city and you ain't woman enough to take my man. You should also check out her duets with Conway Twitty, another great country singer. Another great country singer is Dolly Parton. I love your videos because you can tell you really love the music.

You need to watch the movie, "Coal Miners Daughter" or read the book by the same title. Both are good, accurate life stories. Patsy Cline was already a star when Loretta started her rise. They became very good friends. And Loretta's youngest sister Gale Webb (born after Loretta married and left home) changed her name to Crystal Gayle became another successful country singer-songwriter. You should react to her song, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue".

Patsy and Loretta were best friends and pretty much the same age, though Patsy was somewhat more sophisticated than Loretta and could show her the ropes. Patsy's gorgeous voice was unusual for country at the time and helped her cross over to a wider audience. Loretta was more country and she was also a songwriter, which Patsy wasn't. Patsy's death in a plane crash in 1963 (age 30) was devastating to Loretta. She did carry on to become one of country's all-time great stars. The Oscar-winning film "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1980) tells Loretta's story superbly.

Hey! Loretty - what they called her in her biopic, "Coal Miner's Daughter," Sissy Spacek played her to an Oscar win. Tommy Lee Jones played Doolottle - spouse - and Beverly D'Angelo played Patsy. All their own singing. Loretta has 3 lesser reacted to hits: "When the Tingle Becomes a Chill," "Wings Upon Your Horns" and "I Want You Out of My Head and Back in My Bed." Great songs. Also, "Fist City," "Don't Come Home a' Drinking (With Lovin' On Your Mind)," "You're Squaw is on the Warpath Tonight," "You're Looking at Country," "Blue Kentucky Girl," "Lay Me Down" with Willie Nelson. "Mr. and Mrs. Used to Be" with Ernest Tubbs. "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl," there are 2 recordings, older one not as good as later one...older on the "Anthology" collection & later one on 1 CD "Greatest Hits." "One's on the Way," "The Pill," "Hey Loretta," lots of duets with various country singers but mostly with Conway Twitty ("That's My Job" is one of his great solo songs.) "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" with Dolly and Tammy Wynette ("Stand by Your Man). Her sister, Crystal Gayle, was also a singer...."Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue," "Talking in your Sleep" and "You Take Me Half the Way." Some duets with Conway are: "Louisiana Woman (my home state), Mississippi Man," "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly," "Lead Me On" and "After the Fire is Gone."

I'm not a big country music fan, but I can remember momma cleaning house while listening to this song on her old stereo. I can relate to how different things were back then, and how far she had come in her life. I remember walking down the road quite a ways with empty milk jugs (as we used to call them) to a natural spring, to get water, because my grandmother didn't have running water in her house. She also had an outhouse. We didn't have shoes in the summer time, so I would have to walk on the side of the road when going to get water, because the pavement would be so hot, that it would burn the bottom of my feet. She had a dutch oven outside because it would be too hot to cook much in the house, as there was no air conditioning. Having said all that, I will say this: I absolutely loved my childhood and how simple things were back then and how kind people were. I wish I could go back for just a little while.

My elderly dad (now 87) was a huge fan of old school country music. His favorites were Dolly Parton & the OG Queen of Country - Miss Loretta Lynn. He especially liked her duets with Conway Twitty. When Loretta first started performing, the industry was mostly male dominated. There weren't but a few female solo artists. Patsy took Loretta under her wing & became a mentor but they soon became the best of friends. Yes, they were the top female country music recording artists at the time. Sadly their friendship only lasted a few years before Patsy died in a plane crash at the age of 30. Loretta has written a few books. I just bought the one she wrote about her friendship & times spent together with Patsy. Miss Loretta didn't take no shit from anyone, especially the women that were after her husband - LOL. My favorite songs from Loretta are - Coal Miner's Daughter, You aint woman enough to take my man, Fist City (#1 favorite), & You're the reason our kids are ugly! 🤣 Patsy Cline has always been my favorite female singer of all time, no one sounds like her or Karen Carpenter (my 2nd favorite female singer) & no one ever will again... I can only imagine what wonderful music we would have today if Patsy hadn't been taken from this Earth so soon. Loretta's baby sister is also a country singer - Crystal Gayle, although her career hasn't been as huge as Loretta's but she's got a lovely voice too. My favorite songs from Crystal - "Don't it make my brown eyes blue" and "Talking in your sleep". You really should check out more of Loretta's music, especially Fist City (hilarious lyrics). LOL!

Patsy Cline and Kitty Wells, along with all of the Carter family, were really the first female country stars, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton came along a little later starting in the 1960s. Patsy died young, Kitty lived a good long life, but Tammy passed young in her 50's, and now with Loretta's passing, Dolly really is the only one of the big pioneering stars with us. There are of course other female country singers but these were the women who blazed the way, winning entertainer of the year, crossing over into the pop charts, headlining their own shows, and even with Dolly, followed by Reba McEntire, branching into acting in movies and television. Loretta's music stood out because she wrote her songs from a saucy standpoint. Coal Miner's Daughter was autobiographical, but many of her other songs were too but written from the standpoint of a woman who wasn't happy with how her husband and the rest of society treated her. Fist City, You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man, and The Pill were some of her best, we're not gonna take it anymore songs. Loretta was a tough practical woman like so many from her blue collar roots and she wrote songs to appeal to those women and the rest of us got to enjoy them. RIP Miss Loretta.

Loretta was a pioneer. She and her songs, most written about her life, paved the way and opened doors for girl singers today. Kitty Wells came before her, then Patsy Cline. Before you delve into her many songs (several were controversial) PLEASE watch the movie about her life. All her songs will make sense to you if you do that first. I've seen it 100 times over the years and it never gets old. I read that one of her daughters, Peggy, reported that Loretta said "Doo" came to her the night before she passed (her husband who passed away years ago) and said he was coming to get her to take her home to heaven with him. The next morning is when they found her in the bed, passed away. Wow it struck my heart big time, but what an awesome way to leave this earth after 90 years. Great reaction.

Loretta, Patsi, and another female voice that was huge in the 70's was Tammy Wynette... but yes, they were the shit back in the day and opened up a lot of doors for female artists in country music.

Da Real Adogg this song is her true story about where & how she grew up, her daddy was a coal miner. Yes her & Patsy were best friends & Patsy died right after Loretta Lynn found out she was carrying her twins. Loretta named one of the twin's Patsy. 😘💞

They were two of the biggest and best in the late fifties, early sixties. They were carrying on the mantle for Miss Kitty Wells, affectionately known as the Queen of Country Music. If you like Loretta and Patsy you gotta check out Kitty Wells.✌

Patsy was at the top, Loretta was just beginning, but they connected! Patsy's death in a plane crash was a tragic shock to Loretta.

Oh man, just watch the movie “ coal miners daughter “. Patsy was singing first then met Loretta while she ( patsy) was in the hospital. It’s a true story. Sissy Spacek played Loretta and I’m almost sure sissy did all Loretta’s songs herself She did a phenomenal job on them.

Yes, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline were not only major country music singers, they were among a small handful of women known as the Queens of Country Music. (And for the record, there's only one King- Hank Williams)
