Banning the e-bikes is the wrong approach. Banning the irresponsible bikers is the right approach. If a battery during charging catches fire and the owner fails to take care of it, hold the owner responsible (sure the owner could sue the bike or battery manufacturer). Hold the owner responsible, but don't punish responsible owners using their e-bikes.

My wife was CLOBERED by a kid on a motorcycle style e-bike at an RV resort. Kid was going prob max speed (30 ish) right up on the pool entry area where lots of people were walking...The issue is that it was totally silent. She looked down at a text that came thru (I know...dont text and walk...but its what everyone does these days), and BAM not a head on hit, but a heavy side swipe...Threw her about 5-6ft away down to the concrete...She also is "sub 5ft". Bruised her up something fierce but she got lucky she didn't hit her head or have a broken bone or something worse...So, I can see why some parks are not allowing them. Maybe the "kids" shouldn't be allowed to operate them. This kid wasn't old enough to drive a golf cart...maybe the same limit should apply for the e-bikes.

Valuable tip about the fit of an ebike especially for those of shorter stature. HOAs are starting to ban these too. Could be fun but not on my shopping list right now. Thanks for your honest channel!

My husband and i have the Lectric step thru and love them. The people we see abusing the trails are the ones who come flying past us on their regular bikes and giving us dirty looks and say we're cheating. 😅

Thanks for the transparency. I watch some RV tubers because of the travel. I’m extremely skeptical of absolutely everything that they sell. I’ve watched many RV channels but usually only the first couple of years, that’s when they jump the shark and start getting greedy.

Very informative content ! Actually, we just purchased a very basic Jetson Haze ebike from Costco (top speed 15 mph) to take with us in the trailer when traveling for the same reasons you had mentioned, I'm 63, husband is 66 and we are super cautious on battery charging!

We have e-bikes for riding designated bike trails and we ALWAYS have the regular speed bikers practically cream us as they fly by. Anyone speeding on anything is dangerous. We ride with our friends that have regular bikes and we don't go any faster than they do. And I agree - go to a shop and try them out thoroughly. We did that for weeks before choosing ours. We also chose a store with in-house repairs and maintenance so we just return there for service and they made sure it was fitted properly before we even left with it. We haven't actually used them around campgrounds much so even if they were banned camping, we would still be happy riding the trails and getting out in nature.

It's a shame, like all things, where folks take advantage and "do their own thing" and behave as if there's no one else around...on sidewalks, shopping malls, etc. I've seen messengers on e-bikes in NYC and they're moving far faster than 28 mph. I've also seen real jerks riding e-bikes on hiking trails where any bicycle is not permitted, and travelling far too fast. I was one an ebike (legally) going 9-11 mph on an empty bike trail and someone screamed at me that I was in violation of the law. The answer is for violators and "speeders" the e-bike should be seized by the police and the matter should be settled in court. If someone loses a $2,000 or $3,000 bike in court (or more)...that DEFINITELY will change their ways. But we are seeing, as a whole, people doing whatever they want wherever they want (here in America) and the police are overwhelmed.

I've read a bunch of the comments, and I think the 'age restriction' idea is reasonable and achievable. Youth should need to be accompanied by an adult, or something like that. We have the same kind of restriction at our community swimming pools. A model for this already exists. Thanks again.

My wife has an e-bike, actually e-assist bike. She has a regular mountain bike and I installed an e-assist bike kit to it. E-assist bike means she still needs to paddle. The battery is hidden in a small bike saddle bag. Frankly, it is even hard to see that this is an e-bike or e-assist bike. So, that way, I probably don't even bother with whatever they think they ban in our nation of freedom.

It's all about the chemistry that the manufacturers use for them. If you get one with a LiFePo4 chemistry, it's almost impossible to get the battery to burn.

We got the first edition of the Lectric bikes and we are loving them. We've had them for over 3 years now and can't imagine rving without them. We rode the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park in 2021 and 2022 before it was open to vehicular traffic for the season and although it wasn't open all the way to Logan Pass, we had an adventure of a lifetime..seeing beautiful, unbelievable scenery, meeting some great people and even having a Benign encounter with a black bear on the road. We were never questioned about our electric bikes and they have numerous places in the area who rent different kinds of ebikes for riders. Last year we also did the Route of the Hiawatha and their rules are no throttles. So we had to prove the throttle had been disabled (and the staff there were VERY familiar with electric bikes and knew where to check that on our little instrument screen). We could still use the pedal assist which was very adequate for that ride. We have worked in a few Texas State Parks and most do allow you to ride ebikes where ever regular bikes are allowed. But it's on a park by park basis on whether or not they are allowed, as far as I know.

Thanks for the info, sad that a product that is so much fun and can help people enjoy biking can create so much controversy. Reminds me of the snowboarder versus skier issues years ago. In time enough people will have ebikes that hopefully many of the issues can be addressed without knee jerk bans.

Hey y’all ! I’ve been following y’all for a bit and just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you both. My hubby and I will be beginning our part time rv life ( snow-birding) in 2025 and so we have been researching for a very long time. I can’t tell you how frustrated I have been finding a good rv content creator that doesn’t bombard you with commercial after commercial. I’ve unsubscribed to some good people who just got lost in the money. I have created a little channel myself and will be journaling our adventures for our kids. Im glad I researched and found y’all because my channel will be similar to yours I think. Not a copycat don’t worry lol. Just inspired by because there needs to be more honest creators in the genre not full of sponsorships. I was about to pull the plug on a lectric and I had no idea about these bans. I will be looking into this. Ty so much ! God Bless and hope to see y’all … Somewhere down the road :)

Our advice is NEVER take any KZfaqr’s input as gospel (including ours 😀) always do your own research- e-bikes are awesome if they will work in your particular situation! ( I'm sad about Mackinac Island). We shall see because I'm with ya'll on the mobility thing. It would help us with the hills as we are not spring chickens any longer haha. Maybe they will allow people to ride them and just not have the peddle assist on? It will be interesting to see how it plays out for sure. Wishing ya'll safe travels! I wonder if some of these higher end campgrounds, the ones that rent out golf carts see the monetary competition with guests bringing their e-bikes instead of renting their golf carts. Hmmm

Well, it says in the manuals (as far as I know and have read) to not leave the battery unattended when charging. I keep mine in eye-sight and do check mine regularly (touching it to check for temperature) when charging. Most battery failures manifest itself at the beginning during the first few charging cycles when they are new. So, these battery failures could often be detected early and prevented if the consumer would follow the manual.

We have been doing E-bikes for the last 8 years, before e-bikes were cool. Started with a couple Pedego's and now have a couple Rad mini fold ups. I guess we have been lucky because we have not ran into any ban's yet except for a few trails of course. But like so many things, screwballs can ruin anything. LOL,, I was cracking up because I was just about to do a follow up video on our Rad bikes and the upgrades, we did on suspension seat posts and seats. . But we are not sponsored. I just had a bike shop do a tune up on my bike, new tires ect to the tune of $125.

Well we are a couple of old farts with some worn out parts so these changes with bikes will affect were we go spent our money, simple as that. I always say I'm darn glad we started our fulltime journey when we did over 10 years ago. I'm sorry but thing were just better and the RV KZfaq community was a community for all.

I can certainly understand why e-bikes are restricted. Do you know if this includes e-trikes? I suspect not, because the tadpole recumbent trike is often referred to as a 'mobility device' by the airlines and can travel as baggage on a plane (at least the non-e-trike, unless that has also changed). Thanks for the heads-up on this subject. One day I might need e-assist.

We just sold our Rad Power bikes. We've been carrying them on a rear bike rack on our previous 5th wheel for our first 9 months of full-time rving. Our new rig has a slide out storage door in the back and we didn't want to have something on that rear hitch anymore.

If it has wheels, someone is going to be irresponsible. As with many things, 10% of people causing issues, affects the other 90%. We love or E-bikes, but have learned there are complications to go along with ownership ( transport, charging, operating, etc.). Never fell off regular bike, but did in my first year of e-biking. "You never forget how to ride a bike", does not apply. But I got back in the saddle! Did notice that Mackinac Island apparently does not allow e-bikes, but navigation of anything is difficult with the saturation of regular bikes ( even walking). Crossed off my destination list. E-biking responsibly adds a next level enjoyment to our RV travel.

Simply add age limit on e-bike riders in these communities if you can have a golf cart what’s the difference when we bought are Lectric bikes the site was very specific about age restrictions,once again parents are the problem and these bikes have specific charging instructions for safety sake. It’s always a people problem.

Electric cars are catching fire also, it's called thermal runaway. When the fire starts it is very difficult to put out and when the fire is out it can start back up again!

We have been RVing since 2017 and full-time RVing since Oct. 2022. We avoid these fancy RV-parks (too expensive and we don't even use all their fancy amenities. With parks banning e-bikes (my wife has an e-bike) we will simply just avoid stupid parks like this.

@@Tsch6373 Not sure what you are referring to, but my wife has an mountain bike with e-assist and I have a regular mountain bike with carbon frame. Until my Thai wife of 5'1" got her e-assist mountain bike she struggled to keep up with me (6'1" ...190lbs). Now with her e-assist bike she can keep up and on long mountain climbs she just gives me.the finger.

We ride electric skateboards when we travel in our rig. People in the esk8 world have been keen on battery tech for a few years, but it seems the ebike scene is wildly behind. Tons of dangerous ebike batteries out there with no name knockoff cells causing fires. Even expensive brands are using total junk electronics and hub motors.

In Florida people are flying down the beach and putting beach goers at risk. They will eventually ban them from riding down the beach's. The few will always ruin it for the responsible E-bike riders. My bike is from Taiwan and I have not heard of fire issues with my brand. My charger shuts down when the battery is fully charged. I have over 3800 miles on mine in a year and a half. No Issues!

But really I hear what your saying and I agree with those who say society, parents, and irresponsible people are the problem. Also we bought bikes from a dealer we trust and a name brand as well. Then I added the motors after diligent research and have had no problems since. Ride on.

A: a proper bms in a battery will not cause a over charge or fire. the problem is from the cheap cut all corners of the fly by very quickly communist chinese sellers. as they are not held accountable for the defective things they sell here in the USA. B: the older style battery's are the ones that caught fire when damaged very slightly. the new lifepo 4 are far better. and do not just start a fire. they do in teslas after being in a accident at speed on the roads. C: people in power just like to create a problem that ONLY they can solve, if for nothing more than keeping there face and name on the head lines.

Motorized is motorized regardless of powersource. I disagree with allowing any motorized conveyance on NP trails or designated wilderness areas, however, if they are restricted to developed and maintained main/entry/access roads and/or the campground area roads, I am fine with them. One caveat is powered wheel chairs, if the only way a disabled person can take in an experience or viewpoint, etc., powered wheel chairs should be excluded from a ban.

All stored energy has liabilities. The banning of the produst for use outdoors is typical of missing thought. Type 1 and type 2 are the same bike just type 1 is without thottle. So the battery liability is the same. Regulate activity not products. We enjoyed our ride in acadia on the carrage roads built for horse and buggy with an ebike which we could not do without pedal assist. Governing bodies seem to get it wrong until they are given guidance from the public. Be a voice of reason. Thanks.
