Yes! I’m also jumping on the library bandwagon this year, it’s quite motivating to track how much $ I’m saving by borrowing instead of buying by default. My local libraries don’t always have new releases so I’m allowing myself to buy those if I know I’m VERY excited to read it and want it NOW, thought I’m quite enjoying how I have to wait for some reservations to be ready for collection… it’s like a little pleasant surprise present for myself when that happens 🤗✨

Love to see you again, spiring for me, I don’t want to set goals this year. I only want to heal, I suffer from recurrent depression and currently in a relapse. Don’t need pressure, only healing and keep on working slowly in my recovery while trying to enjoy little glimpses of light that mental health allow me to have. Love your approach to life. If straight dextromethorphan hbr or dextromethorphan poliestrex (brand name in the US is Delsym) is available in your country, try talking to your psychiatry provider about trying it (I wouldn't recommend more than 30mg per dose or more than 3 doses a day of it and realistically give it 4 weeks for noticeable improvement but will likely feel noticeable effects in about 2 weeks and see noticeable effects in about 3 weeks. I went through a very dark period in June to July that started around April to May and started on dextromethorphan in mid July and before the beginning of August came around my psychiatry provider noticed huge improvements and I noticed improvements by mid August. It was definitely a game changer for me as no other antidepressant has ever had that much success in such a short time frame for me.

My priority for this year is "gentleness." There is a lot of new changes for me this year - having a new addition to my family and going into working independently. It'll take some time to figure out what my life will look like and I want to be self compassionate and gentle with myself throughout the year as I figure it out 💖

For me, this year is the Year of the Inner Child. I have a lot of trauma that kept me from simply being a kid and this year I'm planning on doing as much as I can for my inner child. I'm starting with a lego set, I bought it with a gift card from Christmas! On top of that I'm also hoping to move, so that will probably end up either squashing or enhancing those plans, depending on how intensive the whole process will be, who knows? I'm cautiously optimistic for this year.

Your videos are like ASMR for me! So relaxing! You could be the voice of guided meditations and help people relax so much. :-) I love your home and as someone twice your age just know that you will collect treasures over the years, not hoarding but just artwork and things that will add beauty to your home and you don't have to do it all at once. Even in our forties, after a lifetime of collecting beautiful things, my husband and I built a house and have left many walls blank until just the right thing came about. It can be beautiful handmade things from other people, artwork from friends or people who inspire you, craft shows, and opportunity to support an artist. And you're home can become a beautiful showcase of other people's artwork and maybe your own too.

FEAR… Immy, what a coincidence… I’ve been reading about fear recently because I am into skill toys, specifically yoyo and kendama (a Japanese wooden skill toy). I am passionate about these hobbies, I teach them at schools, music festivals, and summer camps, but I am a nervous performer… not really fearful, but I am anxious when people are watching me perform a freestyle routine to music. What I have learned, is that fear is a sense of discomfort in our bodies, it is an emotion which needs to be felt in order to deal with it. For so long I have been trying overcome my performer’s fear in an intellectual manner by processing this situation with my brain. Now I am learning that instead of overcoming my fear, it is more effective to acknowledge my fear by finding the discomfort in my body and spending time with it. This makes sense to me, I have found that acknowledging and embracing my fear and the emotions connected with it, as well as the way fear manifests itself in my body, is much more effective than trying to suppress my fear or conquer it. Does this make sense to anybody else? What are your thoughts on this, Immy? I’m curious… Ⓜary💕

Love your take on fear, Mary! I myself am more anxious than fearful, yet it can be quite debillatating. Good idea to sit with this and see where it's coming from. I usually just push through, but I think it's time to try your method of feeling into it. As always, I love your insights! ♥

US interlibrary loan - you can order any book from any public or public university library, it will be delivered to your local library checked out to you. The number of loan days you have it for is usually much shorter and there can be bigger fines for late return (at my old library is was $1 a day, and a loan period of two weeks instead of 6 weeks for their in-stock books). Also you can order microfiche. Ordering is done online.

That's so incredibly motivating for me, thank you! I lost "choosing joy" by living everyday life. Don't get me wrong, i do stuff, that i enjoy. But these are the small things (like in these gratitude journals - find joy in the little things...), an i love that about my life. That i am able to see them. But. I tend to offset bigger projects/activities/adventures - because they are inconvenient, require planning and dedication, are expensive .... you name it. Thats being said ... guess i am going to that concert on saturday after all! :)

I like to choose a word of the year. My word this year is “connect”. I’m pushing myself to do more to connect with people in terms of developing friendships, as just having graduated college and entering the workforce is challenging without opportunities to meet people and hang out as much. I also want to connect ideas into action more often instead of just letting the ideas simmer and sometimes die or be put on a back burner indefinitely.

Tbh… I get bored with resolutions and/or goals if I have to stick with them for a long period of time (such as a whole year). Additionally, as much as I love reading & writing, I lose touch with a theme word over the course of a year. So… in 2023 I am picking something to focus on each month. January is “No Buy”, February is “Tackle the List” or maybe “Show My Love” (not sure yet), March will be??… I’ll figure it out when I get there. I think having a new focus for each month will keep things fresh and allow flexibility in my personal growth. Also, each month I am learning one new yoyo trick + 1 new kendama trick as I want to add more elements to my freestyle performances (see my other comment below or above??). I have to say that, so far, I have felt excitement and enthusiasm when I think about each month and how I will plan and grow with each new theme. We’re only two weeks in… stay tuned for honest results. Can we touch back on this video a few times throughout the year, Immy? I think that would be hugely beneficial and really fun to see how we’re doing. (I laugh when I say “how we’re doing”… like I’ve moved right in on this one 🤣). Thanks for this awesome video today Immy. I love the way you encourage thought and emotion… thinking and feeling, both of these are such joys for me. Thank-you, Ⓜary💕

Hey Jemma, your positive outlook on life really shows through in this fabulous comment. I love your emphasis on contentment and enjoying the here and the now! I tend to be a deep thinker, and therefore I seem to gravitate towards working on some type of self-improvement (details in my two comments above or below in this comment section). With that said, I like to keep things fresh and not get bogged down with long-term goals or resolutions. Also, as a teacher, making lifestyle changes comes more naturally to me in September, way more than in the thick of a January winter. I hope 2023 is going well for you. I'm pretty sure you picked up on that. 😊 I get that about September being more of a time for a fresh start and I agree. I like that you chose a word for the year instead of specific goals or resolutions. I don't usually do new year's resolutions but I do like to do Earth Day resolutions. I like to choose one eco friendly behavior that I want to get better at or make more habitual.

Brave is an epic word - someone else in the comment chose brave too with the idea of moving through fear rather than living without it. So wise!

If it helps anyone... don't try and "fix" your weaknesses. Focus on the outcome, now look at your strengths/natural ways of being... and work out how those things could get you there instead. Yes, it may mean you take the B road rather than the motorway to get there but the journey is part of the experience. Remember, improving something that is a weakness, say you're 20% good at, by 10% means you're now only 22% good at it. But spending time enhancing a strength that you're 80% good at by 10%, means you're now 88% good at it. The return on your effort is so much higher (and it probably takes less effort and is more enjoyable) if you focus on your natural, innate talents/way of being.

I always like to set a positive new years goal or at least turn self improvement into a positive mindset so that I am more likely to stick with it. After reading Tim Spector book on food, this year I want to be kinder to my body, try new delicious vegetables and recipes, making more fermented foods :)

I've got one long running goal with this year being the second year of having it- trying not to allow the dysautonomia I have end up making me leave the world. I'm not sure that is going very well as the problems I have from it just seem to be worsening on a revolving door with no exit point. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

If you end up liking The Wife then you should read Writers and Lovers by Lily King. A lot of similar themes, but I really loved the journey the story took. Much less looking back and more living in the moment.

Are you referring to a specific video or workout when you say “mobility” not stretching? Or just generally you work on body mobility. Didn’t realize it’s not all just stretching….
@GamerStruggles
@GamerStruggles Жыл бұрын
Yes! Mobility and stretching are different. Although some are interchangeable. Stretching is what you probably think of and mobility is certain movement/exercises to increase a range of motion in a certain joint. Can improve performance in athletes and reduce pain among other benefits.

Driving on the highways in the USA can be really terrifying, even for those of us that have lived here all our lives! 2023 will be the year we move out of California after having lived here (for work) for 8 years. It's going to be a huge and complicated move, but it will be worth it to be able to live closer to our family. It's something that we've been working toward for 4 or 5 years now, so it will be nice to see it come to completion. :)

Using a library card gives you access to that library’s stock of ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines. Many libraries have connecting online services such as LinkedIn Learning or Kanopy (streaming service). It’s free so everyone should get a library card! :)

Video was well worth the wait! I didn’t make goals this year either….I did choose a word which is “flow”. I’m trying to go with the flow of what life presents…..I spent the first 50+ years of life chasing organization and perfection at all costs only to discover it’s not always attainable and it was a coping skill for my anxieties….I’m looking forward to seeing what the year has in store for all of us….and kudos on the library card….I LOVE reading and learning….❤
