I love hearing all about your perspective on moving to Denver from the UK. I'm from Arizona/ Colorado and moved from Colorado to the UK to marry my partner a few years ago. I can really relate to the differences you talk about between the two countries. I miss the nature of the US southwest and all of the national and state parks. But in the UK I love that I can walk everywhere without a needing a car and have access to healthy affordable food. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you sincerely for all of your content lately. I'm a long time subscriber but I never comment and I find a lot of comfort in your videos and really look forward to watching them!

Thanks for mentioning our food prices. Truly people here don't realize how much our prices differ from other countries. It is a shame that we cannot do better for our citizens. But I do think you should consider writing a cookbook about food preservation; pickling etc. I think it would do well here. You know more than you think you do. Best wishes!

We typically say not to plant until after Mother’s Day (second Sunday in May) otherwise it’ll freeze but really, sometimes that’s too early.

I moved to New Zealand for a while and ended up coming back sooner than I expected because of how much I missed England. So many people moan about little things in England but moving away really showed me how much I love it. But I do think it takes moving away to understand what you love and hate about the country you live in. ❤

I would agree with other comments that yes, DO NOT PLANT BEFORE MOTHERS DAY!!! Also I’m giggling because you said something about Denver’s weather being predictable because Colorado can have all 4 “seasons” in a day. It’ll be warm and sunny and it will feel hot by comparison to a normal spring day, and then it’s raining and windy and chilly and the next thing you know it’s dumping snow and freezing. But the next day it melts hahaha But for gardening, go to the mom and pop nurseries and greenhouses. They’ll help you. The big box stores will sell plants as perennials that would only survive in Florida.

On the topic of hummus in the US, I agree that generally store bought hummus is not good but the Trador Joe's hummus is amazing! I will quite literally have it every single day in the summer time. I highly, highly recommend trying it (and just going to Trador Joe's in general for affordable good food).

I'm American and I still miss London! The history and the culture there! Had I the money, I'd just pop back over there and spend a year or two! Denver is a pretty expensive city. But honestly the food prices have shot up so much in the last year or two all over the U.S..

There are a LOT of transplants in Denver and they dont drive very well. I think it’s time to ask your Mom to send you a care package of all your favorite English goodies. I am happy you are enjoying living in Denver. I have visited lots of places but Denver will always be my home base. Happy Holiday to you and your husband. Enjoy the season.

Thanks so much for sharing and answering questions, Immy. I admire you for all the changes you have made with equanimity. You are awesome! I myself am such a homebody, that I can't imagine moving to a different country. I have been to the UK twice and I love it there! ♥ If I moved anywhere away from my native Canada, I would want to live in the UK. But I will stay put, I'm sure. I love my home comforts, my own bed, the familiarity of the stores I shop in, etc. Of course, I am 72, so it's a bit different for me. Still, you are pretty adventurous and I think that is awesome! ♥♥♥

If/when eventually you'll need to find a leave-in conditioner I recommend Desert Essence Coconut Soft Curls Hair Cream. It comes in a plastic bottle :/ and I think it's smaller than the Rhyme&Reason but if you don't find an alternative, you'd probably like it. Leaves the curls super soft, bouncy and light, and you only need a little bit at a time. :) Thank you so much for vlogmas and all you do 💛

Thank you for sharing, Emmy! The Denver REI is awesome. They rent so much gear which will allow you to try things without commitment. You are totally spot on about Denver drivers. So many people from all over the country have moved there and they all have different driving styles. It’s mind boggling and the insurance is off the charts expensive. 😂 When you get your bike, the Cherry Creek trail goes for miles and miles in multiple directions and allows you to ride without coming in contact with the traffic. PS You are never boring!

Have you ever visited Portland? I've lived here for almost 7 years now and adore it. It's the most vegan friendly city in the US, in my opinion, and while most articles cite NYC, I disagree, having lived there for ten years prior. It's an extremely bike-friendly city too, and less spread out than other cities like LA. Accessibility to nature is everywhere. The closest things to my apartment are a big park, another park with a track and soccer field, and a hike through the woods. I walk to work, which is great. I don't know how the cost of food compares to CO, but I think you'd love it here : ) If you ever need advice about Portland, let me know!

Colorado gardening: You definitely don't want to plant warm-weather plants until at least May15th - maybe later depending on the weather. So if you want to grow from seed, start it indoors around March. Otherwise, you will want to buy fairly established plants in May. But you can plant peas, lettuce, and broccoli outside very early - like March, or as soon as the soil is workable. It does freeze pretty hard over the winter. If you plant lettuce in fall, it just may start to grow very early in spring.

1) Highly recommend the Equal Exchange brand Coconut Milk chocolate bar! Not as sweet as English chocolate, but it could be the milkiness you’re looking for in vegan chocolate. 2) We’ve saved a lot of money where we live (also a major city in the US) by joining a co-op. Between the bulk bin items (flour, chocolate chips, spices, etc.) and the regular sales, we find it much more affordable than a regular grocery store. Also, the last few co-ops I’ve joined can special order items in bulk - think a case of tofu. Then they give you a discount (10-15%) for buying in bulk!

As far as hummus goes, try to find a grocery store that includes local brands. In Texas, the HEB chain has some local items. In the Austin area, I can find a good hummus that's made by a local food company at my main HEB supermarket. They also have things like bulk honey, bulk kombucha, grind-your-own peanut butter/almond butter in addition to dry foods bulk selection. HEB is not in Denver, but you might find something that has local brands as well. For bulk, sprouts is okay too. Definitely try asian/hispanic specialty grocers. They tend to have better prices for some foods. Also, for chocolate I recently found a brand called Hu. It's high quality, vegan, and has a great dark chocolate. The Endangered Species brand is good too. 10% of profits go to charity. They both have fair trade certifications as well.

First of all, I am sorry for my english, I am not a native speaker, so if I make any mistakes, please ignore them 🙂. On the topic of hummus, I prefer homemade over store bought, because in my opinion it is better and also cheaper and more sustainable and it is really easy to make. All you need is can of chickpeas (or dry chickpeas from a bulk store), olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, garlic and tahini paste (optional). Btw I love your videos 🙂

Living together probably was a bigger step for the two of you. I'm not discounting marriage, but you were already committed to each other. Getting the blessing of the state is just a formality. Of course there is the blessing of your friends, family, faith, etc., with a ceremony, but it seems like yours was much more private and for just the two of you. My husband and I just had our 18 year anniversary. We married after 4 years together and had a private ceremony, so I feel like I relate a bit. My biggest advice would be to always keep communication open.

Happy to have you in the US!! Might I suggest you seek out another utuber whose a Colorado native and also vegan. She is very active in the outdoors across Colorado She goes by Plantiful Kiki. She may be able to give you some great suggestions on the outdoors as well as local vegan places in Colorado. She has featured a few places amongst her content.

You mentioned climbing - do you mean rock climbing? Because that's one of the things I would looove to do in the US if I lived there - especially in Boulder, Utah etc! Also, agree on the chocolate - though there's this one specific American chocolate I really wish were available in France where I live - it's called Taza chocolate if I remember right? They sell it in whole foods and the bars ar round/wheel shaped, they're stone ground the way chocolate was traditionally made (so kinda gritty, unlike the super creamy super smooth stuff, but in a good way), and vegan, and the flavors are so complexe and unlike any other chocolate I've ever tried and I highly recommend them! I wish I had brought home more!

I saw a video (maybe one of yours) where marmite was used, so I bought some and now I can’t find the video and don’t really know how to use it. Can you give some advice or types of dishes I should use it in? Thanks, and I love the content!

There is very good chocolate in the us. It can be pricy. There's a few stores where I live where they cost $3 for a 10g piece (making 100g $30) but there is good 100g plane bars for like $2 at some stores

I would love to be able to walk everywhere. Considering actually moving to somewhere in Europe to escape driving culture. Boulder is a lot more pedestrian friendly but I think it is amongst one of the most expensive places in the country to live in (although I'm not 100% sure about that). There's a joke in Denver-"Driving in Denver is for full coverage insurance people only" lol. Although I feel like its only half a joke. People are crazy out there. You should try some of the hot springs in Colorado when you get a chance. They are amazing!

If you want good hummus you gotta go to Aurora, cause that’s where all the middle eastern shops are! I loved a local restaurant’s hummus (I think it’s called Shish Kabob Grill?) that’s sold at the store Arash, but it’s bitter (at first) so not everyone likes it. But definitely my favorite hummus haha

Can you do a video about the expense of food in UK average vs US average since you said that the US is more expensive? I'd love to know what's more expensive!
I guess this is it 🎄☃️ 13
