Four months after the release of Humanity - Chapter I, and it’s that time again… time to listen to new Thomas Bergersen music together!
Over the last couple months, Thomas has used the following terms to describe the themes of Chapter II: Family, Childhood, Innocence, Leaving a Legacy, Dreams, Fate, Purpose, Legacy, Identity, Relationships, Children, Values, Hopes, Aspirations, Creativity, Joy, Excitement, Hardship, Friends, Unicity, Faith, and Passion. So I guess it’s about everything! ;)
Will it surprise? Will it delight? Will it satisfy? Join me, and you too can discover whatever thoughts I happened to have as they occurred to me during my first listening!

The concern that I have is how underrated Thomas Bergersen and Two Steps From Hell in general. I have been in love with them for so long that I can't even remember and nobody really knows about them. The fact that this is getting a reaction though makes me so happy because they are getting pretty up there and hopefully get the recognition that they so rightly deserve.

I always have the same surprised reaction every time people around my age says this music is garbage, especially my friends. Let alone pretty girls who I try to find out if they are a good match for me through music. If Thomas ever wins an Emmy or grammy award, if not an Oscar, then my goal in life will be accomplished.

The song that pretty much made me say...."This is epic!!" ... was "Materialize" ... now dont get me wrong, "We are legends" was an absolute monster (saying it in a good way) but there's something about "Materialize" I just adore....maybe it's because it's a mashup of the previous songs...

Reaction videos are the most annoying and narcissistic bullshit that has ever plagued youtube along with the 2 ads at the start of a video. So yeah, would be nice if we had Thomas say Nope to this dude's video lol.
@NaVIIctory
@NaVIIctory 3 жыл бұрын
You’re wrong. In fact, Thomas loves these. For reasons like: • Seeing a fan be expressive in front of the camera to his music • There is no negativity from this video what so ever (which I’m sure a lot of people want these days) • It’s new and I wish more fans could be just as open and fun in front of the camera These types are what gives our composer inspiration.
@thomasmutiu
@thomasmutiu 3 жыл бұрын
@@NaVIIctory How do you know? Do you personally speak to Thomas? Has he ever stated he enjoys this kind of things? Don't speak in other peoples place. You have no right to. Unless you have proven fact that he ever said any of these words you claim. But if you don't, dont' freaking speak in his place, you have absolutely no right to. And I will stay to my point, reaction videos of any kind are a plague on youtube. KZfaq is for content creators, this is not content creation and I dont' really care what people say, but most of these "reaction videos" are over the top exagerated reactions for a very young and edgy audience in most cases. So I highly doubt "this is what gives Thomas" inspiration. If you think these things give Thomas inspiration then boy, you clearly haven't listend to his music enough. Now, I know my comment may sound negative and mean, but it really isn't. I don't have the best of expressions and well its hard to tell how someone really feels through some words over the internet. But yes, it does kind of upset me how people glorify stupid things like reaction videos.

@@thomasmutiu I agree that she worded it badly and made it sound like she's quoting him instead of stating her opinion (unless she really was quoting him from somewhere, but I didn't see his reaction to this). But if you ever were to Thomas Bergersen's Facebook page, you'd know that he enjoys seeing peoples' reaction to his music and frequently states that it gives him inspiration, so it is not unreasonable to think that he'd think positively of this video. I appreciate that you admit your bluntness. Still, it would be awesome if you put more effort into understanding others. You come across as someone who thinks that they're superior to other people and see absolutely no value in the opinions of others, because they're just stupid duh. Every opinion has a source, it doesn't stem from nowhere, and understanding that can help you articulate your point better, or perhaps understand that you are just different people who can't relate in some ways, or perhaps even accept that you were wrong. Even an opinion that is based on lies and/or bad logical reasoning is valuable in that it can help you identify a problem if you listen to the other person.

Chapter I completely stole my heart and I was slightly underwhelmed by Chapter II at first. I blame some of this on the fact that I listened to it for the first time riding in a rattly van on a noisy highway. Once I was able to listen to it again without so much noise contamination, I really began to appreciate it. Now the songs go through my head constantly and I’ve come to love them all lol. My top faves are “Your Imagination”, “The Stars Are Coming Home”, and “Materialize”. I can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us in Chapter III

I didn't like "We are legends" that much on first listen. Found it too slow. Then I listened again and I LOVE it. About the album in general, Materialize is the ultimate climax. I think it's because Crystallize left that expectation for climax unsatisfied (Like, really. It just doesn't reach that level you're waiting for). Then, the same theme is back on Materialize... It reminds you of that thing you're still waiting for since track 2, and then, it SLAPS! "Mnr" Is a great opening track for the chapter. "Your imagination" is something, for sure. Great vical track, beautiful message. It was my favorite for a while, until other tracks grew on me even more. About "the stars are coming home", Please no female vocals. I'm thinking about what happened "Avalanche", originally sung by Thomas (from "Catch me", unreleased album, found it on extrememusic if anyone is interested). It has a female vocals version, which kills most of the power in it. I think the same would happen to "The stars are coming home". The off-pitch vocals in "Innocence", well, it has an acquired taste. But this one too has been among my favorites. I could liaten to it in a loop for one hour straight. "Fairytale"... This one, I don't get it. Some people love it a lot, but, well, to me it's really not great. Easily my least favorite track of first 4 chapters (yep, chapter 4 is out, go check it out now). "Vaporize"? Average level track for Thomas. Good as an ending.

I'm happy to help as I'm originally from Russia, so I fully understood the Russian text. It's coming from a German fairy tale (that's why it's named after it) called "The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats". Here's the Russian text from it: www.kostyor.ru/tales/tale46.html (surely not every line is included in the track) And here's some background info to it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wolf_and_the_Seven_Young_Goats The original Russian movie: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y5OCopWlmby6Zp8.html With that said, this track made me tear up and cry leaving me with positive childhood memories. Hugged my mom afterwards telling her how much I love her and thanking her for everything she did for me. Quite personal story from me, I know, but this is what Thomas' music does to me. Nothing else comes even close.

Thanks for your review. I have mixed feelings about this chapter...on one hand it has 2 outstanding tracks such as 'We are legends' (the most TSFH sounding track) and 'The Stars are coming home' (though i think it would have worked better with a female singer instead of Thomas) but on the other hand the rest of the album is a bit too 'soft' to my taste...overall i prefer Chapter 1 which was more uplifting and heroic.

About that, there is a version with Audrey Karrasch (?) in which her voice has an autotune as filter, and it's interesting to hear because she has much more sadness in her voice, whereas Thomas' version really grew on me because of the amount of anger in his voice. I love both takes because I can relate to both the suffering that makes you rage against the world (and yourself), and suffering that's more quiet and lonely.

@@udim7284 I tend to give vocalizing a pass for oversinging because it would be really boring if it *didn't* oversing but OH HOLY HECK I've been listening to Cruising in Space and singing along when I can (the reprise of the main melody at the end, but pitched up, is impossible for me to completely sing even in the whistle register) and I am obsessed with that song. And with Apollo. And with Made of Air. Okay, fine, I think Chapter 4 is one of my favourite albums so far, not that I can actually rank them. So far first place is Chapter I and IV tied, a very close second place is Chapter II because I really couldn't care less about Fairytale and Innocence, am "meh" about vaporize because I find that the lyrics are pretty uninspired but love the rest of it, but absolutely *love* the rest (top songs are We Are Legends/Materialize, Your Imagination and The Stars Are Coming Home), and then I'm kind of "meh" about Chapter III because while I 100% the fact that it tells the story of a couple's life falling in love and living their lives the music itself seems to lean more towards pure classic/soundtrack (it sounds very... Christmas-y to me?) and I tend to prefer Thomas' more experimental/multigenre stuff. But I've been listening to it more and it's also growing on me, so... Yeah. Oh man, I really can't get over how underrated TSfH and Thomas Bergersen are. They're amazing.
