But the potential has not been REACHED just yet. In Spider-Man 3, especially if it is their LAST Spider-Man title? They must go full throttle on Web-Swinging and traversal in general.

*CHAPTER V UPDATE:* For anyone wondering about my Chapter V video, you'll have to wait until Chapter VI to see any of it. Because, to my shame, I at some point failed to transfer the footage for my long-delayed Chapter V review to a new hard drive, and apart from some random stills and stray clips, all that footage no longer exists. Completely deleted, and nowhere to be found on six different drives and two computers. (I checked everything!) So I'll share those surviving bits and recap my thoughts on Chapter V along with covering Chapter VI when it releases. Thomas has just confirmed that Chapter VI is recording next month, in May, so a release by the end of summer appears likely (as long as Thomas doesn't delay to add more music, like he did with Chapter III!). I'm looking forward to finally, FINALLY getting another of these videos out there to celebrate the occasion with everyone! :)

So cool to see this. I haven't had time to properly compare the two systems and this video will help organize my thoughts if/when I do... The Insomiac games are SO good. But I think you hit the nail on the head, SM2(2004) was a game about swinging more than a game about Spider-Man. I don't think we felt that way at the time, but 20 years ago there were a lot of things we weren't thinking.

I'm also unhappy with where I've left things, but I can't promise whether I'll be able to finish the original 3-hour-plus series I planned, nor make any other content. I'd considered removing references to this video being part of a series before uploading, just in case I couldn't manage it, and certainly wish I'd gone that route. It's something that's gnawed at me from quite a while, and I'm genuinely sorry to leave some people disappointed.

Hey, I'd love to know your thoughts on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 web swinging... Personally I hate how lazy it feels to swing with Peter, especially in regards to his Air Tricks, and his dive tricks are all reused miles dive tricks except the rubiks cube one which is a cool callback to spiderverse noir, but also so random in my opinion and is only cool the first time you use it. The reused miles' dive tricks include the spooderman jaw glitch that is present when using miles' animations in marvels spiderman remastered on PC with mods... every swing animation feels so much more fluid and full of life as miles and that's a shame in my opinion I had such high expectations after watching this video and was super let down with what I got in game...

The original track is one of my favorite pieces of music by any composer ever. This is just an interesting experiment to hear it a different way, not an attempt to "improve" on the original or anything. I love the wild EDM stuff and agree that's the point of it. I've had second thoughts about uploading this for years.

Really? Focus groups had trouble? who did they hire? boomers? I was 8-10 when I got to play this (didn't get to play on release. played a couple years after) and as soon as Bruce Campbell described the game and the slow-mo kicks in for you to start swinging, it clicks instantly. Maybe their focus group lied about how much PS2 gaming experience they had lol

@@ssssssssssssssssss50 that video is crap, it's nitpicking more than anything and several comments (including mine) have criticized it lol i'm 100% sure at this point that most people who think the activision games are better just watch that video and go "yeah he's 100% right" without critical thinking themselves webs going through buildings is irrelevant as web of shadows does the same thing and, from a level design standpoint, it would feel horrible in the insomniac games with the amount of complex geometry the PS5 game has, it was fine in the PS2 era because geometry and level design was a lot simpler also, how are you limited to what you can do? in terms of gameplay mechanics you can do more in the insomniac game with things like corner tethering

Pople like you are just blindly impressed by style over substance, like a lot of people were back in 2018 with the first one. You can’t even hang on to webs and the game does the traversal for you

@@ssssssssssssssssss50 no, it is nitpicking when you don't take into account *why* it serves its purpose, as well as all of the advantages it has "the game does traversal for you" i would love for you to post gameplay of you trying to make the game do that for you at swing assist 0 and see where that gets you lmfao the game doesn't do everything for you either, but do you know what spiderman 2 PS2 does for you since we're on the topic? momentnum and speed; you artificially get an infinite number of speed boosts which is physics breaking in the PS2 game, in the new game you have to manually earn your momentnum again, think for yourself instead of parroting around some mediocre video

Damn shame these newer generations only see graphics, unable to see gameplay. Damn shame. *the newer one is guided, like super training wheels vs pure skill, and the newer game... doesnt always stick to surfaces. Spiderman 2004 ALWAYS required a surface.* Overall, spiderman 2004 has way better swinging, but 2018 has overall the best story, combat, etc. Loses only in one place, locomotion.

I don't like how they treat the traversal abilities in Spider-Man 2. You get 1 jump and 1 dash. Thats it. They recharge via cooldown and you have to buy the skill that lets you recharge them faster by doing tricks. The fact that is something that you have to unlock in the skill tree tells me that they don't understand what made the tricks system so great in Miles morales. Miles had it right by giving the player 3 venom meters and letting the player decide what ability to spend them on. In Spider-Man 2, I find myself spamming tricks just to recharge my abilities because i like to use them often. I just feel really limited because i cant go on those long flow state swinging-tricks-jump-dash combos that I do in Miles Morales where I will pretty much traverse the whole city for 10 minutes doing tricks and putting myself in awkward situations before I venom jump to clear a building or venom dash across a park so I can attach my web to a building and swing away. I try doing that in SM2 but ill press my venom jump or dash only to get that annoying "unavailable" sound that the game makes when your ability is recharging. I'm interested to hear what you have to say about the changes to the tricks/traversal system and mechanics in Spider-Man 2.

Great video. Made me spin up an emulator just swing around for a few hours. Truly was one of a kind physics. I really doubted the new spiderman and never even touched it after I saw some gameplay of the blurred motions it sometimes did when you swing too close to the floor. I just got the remasted on steam from a sale and will give it try to see how it goes. Im more so looking forward to the Spiderman 2 Game since they gracefully decided to put in a assistances meter that you can dial down.

I really wish the new game could enable a "physical model" of the web in the settings. You know, so that, for example, when Peter flies on the web under a horizontal bar (like a traffic light), instead of it going right through, it would wrap itself around it
