When I worked EMS in Las Vegas I was on a rollover MVA 10 miles out of town with 9 patients. 3 helicopters on the deck at one time, 2 FD engines, FD heavy rescue, FD rescue and 5 ambulances. All 9 were transported, 3 by the helicopters and 6 by ground ambulance. It was a crazy scene! I can only imagine what drivers were thinking as they drive past.

@@mickfunny4185 I swear every time I talk to someone who was in the USCG they always tell me "Wow you're the only person who never asked if I was a rescue swimmer" Not all nonepilots in CG Aviation are swimmers. In fact the biggest majority are crew members.

Of all the emergency medical air lifts that you did, how many of the air lifts do you think were unnecessary and that could have been transported by ground? The reason I asked that question is because I worked in a Level 1 Trauma Medical Center in California and almost half our patients that come by air are not serious enough to travel by air. For example, we get patients by air because they either have a broken arm or leg. In that case, I think they should travel by ground. I guess it is good for the patients to arrive faster by air, but I think we should save our emergency air lifts for our life threatening patients.

+Odin Matrix It really depends on the call. I'm originally from the Middle TN area. The Life Flight crew at Vanderbilt is second to none. The Hospital itself is a Level 1 Trauma Level 4 Neo and Level 3 Burn Unit. They have 6 helicopters total and 5 ready to respond at all times. They have a total of 6 bases they operate from and serve Northern Alabama, Southern Kentucky, and Middle TN.

The first thing I would say is that you probably do have at least three, but you don't see them as much BECAUSE you live in a big city. Outside of interfacility transfers, those birds will be used more in rural areas. It would be cost-prohibitive to use them in major cities for scene flights. That's what ground ambulances are for.

@thehunterstruck3 жыл бұрын
George Theofanous that they do. I know Bell has developed “quieter” ones for major cities. To me, it’s the company and how well they take care of their aircraft more than the manufacturer. I live in an area notorious for medical choppers crashing. One not too far from my house, one in my families hometown, and a couple of more in the OKC metro. 2 of those were Eagle Med who really, honestly SUCKED before air methods bought them out and got rid of their birds in the area
