Thank you Jamel! In memory of: Cory Wells February 5, 1941 - October 20, 2015 (age 74). They say he wasn't ever into drugs and just was a good all around guy! Thanks Cory!

Is he the vocalist in this song? I can’t remember all those years ago. My late husband used to play this song and a few others by Three Dog Night. He took me to see them live in 1970, two days before I delivered our only child, a daughter. Nice memories. Annie in TN 💕

There was a lot of groups back then both black & white who the music industry didn’t want to show their faces because of how they sounded. What most of us forget is that most of this soul music came from black people who never got the credit they deserved for writing such amazing songs. When you look into the back grounds of these groups they all came from a place that heard songs originally sang in Juke Joints like Jerry Lee Lewis. I’m so glad times changed & now people don’t have to hide I just wish that the people who sang songs originally are given the credit that’s properly deserved & earned.

Suddenly I just now burst into tears, remembering my late husband taking me to see this guy singing his heart out. It was two days before giving birth to our only child, a daughter in 1970. The tears? Well he’s gone now after being soulmates for 50+ years, my daughter just tested positive for Covid19 and I can’t go to her, being very disabled. But it will all be ok, with time. Goddam!! What an incredible performance! Annie in TN 💕

Cory Wells had two strong things going for him here. First, his incredible voice. You really need to be a good vocalist to pull off a song like this, otherwise it's just a pose. Secondly, he had that marvelous, on point technically fierce band behind him.

I was fortunate to have caught Three Dog Night live 3 times in the space of a couple of months when they reformed for a brief period in the early 1980s and went out to play small venues. It was in northeast Ohio at both the Akron Agora and the Cleveland Agora. They really sounded fantastic and played all their hits - this despite singer Chuck Negron's continuing descent into an extremely harrowing years-long battle with heroin addiction that probably none of us knew about at the time. Then at around 3/4 of the way through their set, Cory Wells did this song, and it was the hands-down show-stopper EVERY TIME. He had us all up on our feet as he did his maniacal "HOLD HER, SQUEEZE HER, NEVER LEAVE HER, YOU GOT TA, YOU GOT TA, YOU GOT TA TRY, TRY, TRY, ...." jumping up and down like a soulful madman while Mike Alsup delivered his superbly tasteful lead electric guitar lines. They must have played this for at least 8 minutes every time. We went WILD!

Jamal, Three Dog Night were one of the top bands of the early 70's. So much so, Elton John admired them (before he was known himself). Elton John and Bernie Taupin came to America to "make it" and met up with Three Dog Night in California. Elton and Bernie were song writers at the time; it was before Elton was his own awesome performer himself. Danny Hutton [the "funny one" in this vocal trio] befriended them, as the story goes, and introduced Elton to the "wild side" of the industry. Elton like these guys so much, he offered them a song "Lady Samantha" to record, then later, "Your Song". But, before Three Dog Night published that song, Elton recorded it for himself and Three Dog Night missed out. Yeah, Three Dog Night are that long forgotten power bands of the 70s that is totally awesome watching the younger generation "rediscover".

LOVE all the Three Dog Night you’re doing, and this cover is one of my favorites. You really have to watch them live, 1975, on Sound Stage singing “One.” Chuck Negron’s vocals and falsetto are awesome!

1975 Cory was so cute when he said, “Gotta dance here.” 😂 But if had to pick- it’d be 3dognight: 1972 this one below and the “Jam” being the best: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLqdqMaYrdHLkok.html Here’s the ultimate: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zsdxn7Kq2Kicqmg.html

I cant say I really like song remakes for the most part, but I have to admit this was pretty awesome. I still live Otis, but I'm impressed. I never heard this version before and my Aunt absolutely loved Three Dog Night.

Great reaction to a great singer.....It is very difficult at best to follow Otis Redding and replicate any level of soul......Cory is one of the few that grasped what Otis truly did.......Thanks for not interrupting the video 10 times like most!! Dr G

You got the right version. I got to see Three Dog Night in 1968 when I was 18. They opened for Cream at the Anaheim Convention Center across from Disneyland. I took a beautiful red head that I’d just met at Knott’s Berry Farm a week earlier. What a CONCERT!!! Both bands were ON FIRE that night.

@Susan L I just made a comment that I loved all 3 voices but Cory was my favorite..that husky bluesiness. And I always felt like his personality shone through. Don't know how right I am but I always felt that. I've loved their music since I was a teen in 1969. Saw them in concert twice. To me, your dear brother was always a stand-out. He sparkled. He still does.💙 Much love to you from a lifelong fan in Kentucky.💙
