have you ever china painted? i have -- every color has to be repainted and fired three times -- this dear woman painted the whole set laboriously -- some even inside -- i only painted one dish -- lot of work -- and thirty dollars??!! thirty dollars??!!! what a treasure

Your cabinet filled with hand painted China brings back memories. My generation of dealers was very fortunate to get to attend every range of estate auctions and get to admire it all, even if you couldn’t afford it. Sometimes, I wander the cobwebs of my mind and once again attend the sales at Mansions in the hills surrounding Cincinnati, 3 story Victorians in Civil War towns, and 5 generation collections on family farms. Saturday downtown visits with old dealers in 3 story buildings filled with the trappings of salvaged urban renewal. Filthy from digging in barns and junk stores covered in years of suet and coal dust. With every turned corner came a sparkle and a twinkle. We were dreamers, hunters, and gatherers. Another skipped heartbeat and that old familiar battle cry, SWEET! Thanks for keeping it alive.
