Enjoy this inside look a very entertaining flat track motorcycle race from the Southern California Flat Track Association at Perris Raceway in Perris, Ca. In this hour plus video we take you inside the pits and talk to many of the racers in the 23 classes, including Super Hooligan, Framer, Pro Framer, Open Pro, Classic Vintage, Bomber, Powder Puff and much more. We will bring you the three top main events, Super Hooligan, Pro Framer and Open Pro in their entirety. This was just one day before the AMA Flat Track race at nearby Perris Auto Speedway, so many top racers were in town tuning up and dialing in on this short track. We will also talk with our winners. We get an up close look at a lot of the motorcycles in the pits including a super rare 1940 Indian and Bultaco there for the “Running of the Bulls.” We explain what a Framer and Super Hooligan is and get a close look at David Kohlstaedt’s Steve Huff Motorsports, Destination Harley Davidson XG 750 Super Hooligan with Husqvrana bodywork. We get tuning strategy from the pits as many teams cut extra grooves in the tires for grip. Strap in for an 80 minute ride in the SCFTA at Perris Raceway for some good old fashioned Friday night racing. With comment with any questions or feedback and please share this with a friend who would appreciate the coverage. The idea is to make you feel like you were there. Enjoy!

What flat track circuit / track did you win your first race ? I can't remember the name of the track but I was at a flatrack meeting just outside of LA in 1980 when a young rookie won two races that day. I could've been you.

Yeah, my first racer was almost a Zundapp. My dad wouldn't let me buy it cause 2nd gear was out. I wound up racing a Hodaka 125 I don't remember what frame it had. It was light and fast. Stubblefield cycle built the bike.

I'd managed to acquire something like 28 or 30 bikes between 1974 and 1985, mostly enduros or scramblers , a former factory sponsored 250 Astro flat tracker, a 250 Jr. Speedway Bike for our Son and several street bikes with my favorites being two BMW R75/5 My preference leaned towards the early Honda Scramblers (a '64 250, and a '65 and a '66 - both 305's) because for me it was these bikes that put the "every day" American guy on the road - not BSA, Harley, or Triumph, all of which I Love, and with my Wife of 47 years buying me a 2016 Harley Freewheeler a few years ago after we paid-off our home, YAY !! and the only other bikes I'd like to have is a '46 Indian twin, a Triumph (new), and lastly a Montessa Metralla Mk II in black/silver for the street which would make me happy - well, for awhile, Ha, Ha.

Great to see this kind of racing being resurrected I used to watch lots of it back in the late 50s and 60s at Ascot park in Gardena and other county fair tracks. I t was popular because the TV stations could show the races for cheap. Anybody that was Insane could get into the qualifiers. Like the 40 yellow Indian they showed. Back in the day there were lots of harlies because they were so cheap. You could get enough spare parts baskets to build one for a hundred bucks. Try that now. Same with the Jalopy races. FUN FUN FUN

your xs650 are one of the most reliable yamahas they ever made ...mule custom street trackers used to build one hell of a sweet looking xs650 street tracker ...kenny roberts made them famous as the ama aloud you to run a 750cc kit in them for the mile ...a friend just sold his 1200 eve hooligan set up real close if not the same as your plans and his made 97 rear wheel horse power and was a hole shot monster indoor hooligan racer ...at ohio state university at mama tried ..it was funny in the first heat jake my friend took this guy out on the start that looked intensional but it wasnt ..they had a restart and the dude that jake took out ..this guy on the restart made a bee line at jake and t boned him slamming jake into the wall and bent his rear rotor ...it was indoors inside a big Auditorium with a slick concrete floor ..they put down dr. Pepper syrup and mopped it in the floor and let it dry for some extra sticky traction but after a heat race you would have to dig the syrup out of your tire tread or it would build up and get slick again ...the 1200 Evo your building should run great if you have not bought any cams for it , I can find out what profile Jake was running 97 horses pretty good

In England, I think we still have speedway motor cycle racing. I live in Norwich, Norfolk, and many years ago we had the best team , including the world champion, Swede, Ove Fundin. I hope I have spelt his name correctly. I just watched a bit of flat track for the first time. The bikes are VERY slow , I think. Years ago, the bikes were all the same make, but I don't remember what. No gear changing and the left hand footrest was mounted higher than the right, to allow for clearance when cornering. The rack was cinder, if that means anything to you. I believe they were 500cc bikes, powerful enough to lift the front wheel during the race. The gear ratio was more like a3rd or 4th on a modern bike, so not much front wheel lift from a standing start. This was at least 60 years ago, so I am maybe a bit vague on real details.

From short track to super twins .. flat trackers are cool... As you can add a headlight and tail light and you got a Street Tracker for all surfaces of all roadways of any kind..... Like all these puppies ....two stroke twins .... Back in their day at Mid-Ohio sports car track they would race RD350 Yamahas.. and you heard the announcers say when they're talking about how close first through fifth is . And I quote the famous quotes ," and ladies and gentlemen you can throw a blanket over first through 5th as they come off the back side Hill and getting air at 140 mph.... If you wanted to see the action at Mid-Ohio you would go in the infield and it's been a long time but after a long straight away there's two s 90s and then it drops off into the valley and they purposely built the track that way cuz everything gets air off of that downhill even an MG midget at 100 mph I'll get about a foot off the ground as he goes over the downhill... And when they were raising those rd350s they were that close together five of them handlebar to handlebar all with air under their tires when they went down the downhill at mid Ohio it was a wonderful time to be alive ...
