Hello folks, on today's episode we're going to be fishing for carp. We'll be using a different set up to help with easier bite detection.
Sometime when a carp bites, you'll really know it. Although sometimes carp will have a slow bite that can be difficult to spot. This setup works for those big, obvious bites, as well as the slow not-obvious bites.
For this setup we're using a medium sized t-turn for the extra strength as it's rated up to 50 lbs. From the t-turn we go 4 inches down to the sinker, and a much longer line out to a simple hook. The bobber however, is not to keep our line suspending, as we definitely want that longer line with the hook to rest right on the bottom.
The trick is to pull your bobber high enough on your line so the sinker does not pull the bobber below the surface of the water. You'll want the bobber far enough just enough do that it can lay flat on the top of the water.
As soon as that bobber goes down... it's time to set the hook!

Enjoyed watching this video Ivo. Love your enthusiasm - it's like watching a kid get the toy he wanted for Christmas every time you caught a fish. I started fly fishing for carp last year and what a blast it is! I still wind up spooking at least 9 fish out of 10 but that challenge is what makes it so much fun. Keep your videos coming!

...I wish , that out local European carp would still go for such simple rigs , ...but even when bobber(float)fishing , you've gotta go a lot more sophisticated .I'm using long homemade floats(10" to 12")of reed stems , they have an eye on the bottom end to attach a small Duolock snapswivel , which runs on the mainline , stopped by a slip bobber knot and a small bead on the line .This way I can detach or switch my float without having to cut apart the whole rig , I can fish various depths(2 to 45 feet) by sliding the bobber stop knot up or down .These reed floats might come preloaded(in this case not so much ballast required on the line) or plain , ...the basic rig is made in a way , that about 80% to 90% of the weight required to pull the float down to it's fluo red or orange top end is located at the end of the main line , ...most likely a single inline teardrop or ball sinker , ....underneath a rubber bead to protect the knot and finally another snapswivel matching the breaking strain of main line and leader .A 20" to 25" long leader of a tad less breaking strain than the main line is connected to the snapsviwel below the float , the rest on the required ballast is starting to be located 3" to 6" above the hook(the more shy the fish , the closer to the hook) , just one , two or three lead shots crimped onto the leader withing a few inches distance , ........the biggest shot is the one close to the hook , the more upward , the smaller the shot get(to avoid tangling on a cast).This lead shot ballast should be chosen in a way , that it would pull down the fluo red colored tip of the float a tad further down than neccessary for good visibility, ...so when you lateron determine about the depth of your fishing spot by altering the bobber stop knot , the float tip would stick out a little bit further and you can therefore be sure , that your baited hook and the lowest lead shot would lay on the bottom, .......first to kinda anchor your rig at the spot and second as a bite indicator , ....as often the fish would lift that lowest shot together with the bait , your float would dart upward and possibly tend to lay flat on the surface , if more ballast would become reliefed by the fish lifting the bait off the bottom(time to set the hook) , ....a very sensitive float rig .If carp does not lift the shot , but pulls away , your float would get pulled to the side and vanish below the surface more or less fast , ...time to set the hook again .There are special floats available over here in Europe , these have a fat lower body(to carry enough ballast for casting) , are often pre-loaded and sport very thin and long antenna stems to stick out of the surface , ...off course these long and thin antennas require much more sensitive and lighter ballast compared to my simple homemade reed floats , thus are less detectible by the fish , .......such floats are called "wagglers" or "waggler floats" , ...just as sensitive as you can get in bobber fishing .Greetings from northern Germany , Dieter

Love the video as always! Just want to offer some advice. Yes as you said you need a bigger net. Look into a euro carp style net that can easily accommodate fish this size. Now for the real important part for all carp anglers. Look into getting an unhooking mat. Never put your catch on the ground as this can lead to damaging the fish. Most American anglers are not familiar with unhooking mats or carp style gear so a quick Google search will help. Ivo I have been giving away unhooking mats as as a carp safety campaign and have a few more Coming in. Would you like one free of charge of course. thanks again for promoting carp fishing! Cool, I use a similar approach except i use a slip float with no bobber stop os I do not have to adjust. The only difference is that the float start to drift instead of going down on a take. i also like to free line with either no weight or a small split shot where conditions allow.

How often do you cast and rebait when fishing for carp from a boat. When fishing from shore I used to let my bait sit for over an hour before re-casting, is that too long? Also how far into a unproductive spot do you decide to change locations and try elsewhere for carp? Thanks :)
@thundermistlures
@thundermistlures 8 жыл бұрын
+Zaur Melikov Hi Zaur - suggest keeping your bait fresh, so feel free to change it every 20 - 30 mins. If you do not get a bite within 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours latest, suggest moving spots or fishing deeper or shallower (i.e. cast out further or cast in closer). good luck on the water

+canatek the Pike bite is definitely still on and the salmon bite is slowing, but the trout is starting and the perch are also on the bite and if you can get to deep water, the bass fishing is fantastic - the area around the Toronto islands is good as is Bronte creek or the credit river :)
