The tibialis plays a major role in actives such as walking, running and decelerating movement. It is a huge part of jumping and stopping.
Yes, it is often a very overlooked muscle group!

As someone who wants to run a marathon, the tibialis is extremely important for long-distance running. It's currently my weakest link in the lower chain and I need to bring it up, to bring my overall endurance up.

Does training your tibalis count towards calve volume?

Gym bros with chicken legs who claim they have 'bad calf genetics' actually just have very small anterior tibialises. No matter how high your calf inserts are, if you have this muscle well developed you'll have big looking legs below the knee (from the front at least).

I don't see the role of the tibialis when stoping. The eccentric action of the ankle extensors is what decelerates you
@maffegoser
@maffegoser Жыл бұрын
Because the tibialis keeps your foot in dorsiflexion when you protrude your lower leg forward, enabling you to engage your upper leg to more efficiently catch the weight/force. As the foot goes into extension the tibialis acts as sort of a cushion since it extends while staying tense.

@@maffegoser "foot goes into extension the tibialis acts as sort of a cushion since it extends while staying tense." Which is the external force that try to extend the ankle and the tibialis try to damp?. I only see an external force on the front foot trying to flex the ankle
@maffegoser
@maffegoser Жыл бұрын
@@amapolo7211 Before actually completely stopping you have to slow down while walking. You still have to go through walking motion (roll of the foot from heel to toe) before completely stopping.
@amapolo7211
@amapolo7211 Жыл бұрын
@@maffegoser I see the roll action on the front foot as a way to smooth the walking or running, but not necessarily related with accelerating or decelerating. If you want to slow down your pace with the front foot, the inertia would try to flex the ankle, and you have to fight it with your ankle extensors
@maffegoser
@maffegoser Жыл бұрын
@@amapolo7211 I find it hard to explain to you in text but the tibialis plays a key role in decelerating. It's basically the opposite (passive) motion of the exercise he shows around 00:30. When decelerating you can not just protrude your lower leg forward and place your foot flat on the floor. Your heel touches the ground first and as your front foot comes down your tibialis extends under tension (it's called eccentric contraction, see wikipedia), so it absorbs the energy while lowering the front foot to the floor, slowing you down.

Isn’t that critical. Thriving into my late 30s, still dunking, without ever doing a bunch of Tib raises. Before singing the praises of marketing experts (KOT guy), make sure they’re sending you a monthly stipend

Tower, you are not 72 years old yet like I am. Walking backwards and doing tibialis raises have increased my athleticism on the tennis court remarkably and quickly. My acceleration to balls is scaring me. I have become a lifetime advocate of both activities. Aging is no joke.
Why are Tibialis raises so good?
