Welcome to Tick Creek Ranch. This channel was created to show the daily ins and outs of life on a small ranch. We are a family of eight, our lifestyle has taken us from the deserts of Idaho to the wilds of Alaska and back to the lower 48. We followed our dreams and finally settled in the Ozark’s of Missouri. We have owned and operated our own businesses over the years, ranging from carpentry and excavation to commercial and residential landscape. The children and ourselves have developed a passion for learning new skills which include leather work, welding and fabricating, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, equipment operation, timber sawing, blacksmithing, horseshoeing, flatwork and concrete, timber framing, cattle ranching, horse training, and many more. Please follow along on this journey as we build our new home and delve into the ways of regenerative ranching. So stick around and watch us create our dream using old world construction techniques and style reminiscent of an era gone by. Thank you and enjoy the journey.

I like the build, seems perfect. Have you thought about building another arch section with a short tongue for the rear of the very long logs? It could be pushed over the back end , chained up and then the tongue pulled down and chained to the log. There are a few videos of this design concept. But if this works for your logs its perfect. Very nice build. I like the idea of no winch to mess with.

You mentioned brass washers, you could use spring derlin liners, drill & cut to size. Need to purchase through a full fledge spring repair shop. Look up Dayton Parts "DEL-106", You can cut them in half, and the derlin is like a dry Teflon material. Thanks for sharing,and I hope this information helps . Note: derlin does not work well with oil, grease, or similar lubricants.

Great video, I’m gonna have to build one of these for myself…Quick tip for drilling with your hole saws in metal…drill your pilot first without the hole saw on it, and you won’t jam the saw into the material causing the teeth to get fudged up.

Add a flap behind your helmet It help a lot when you are outside and when you have light coming in . I use a piece of old jeans and just tape it to the back top of my helmet And les it drop down a good 18 inch and 12 inch wide . Try it and let me know if you notice the difference .

Those wheels are nice, but I'm a cheapskate. I have winter tires for my car which I don't use in the summer, so I went down to the local pick-a-part wrecker's yard and bought a pair of front spindle/steering knuckles to match for $15 apiece (remember to gather and bring all the chassis attachment bolts and lug nuts - they're hard to come by if you forget them.) These are stronger than you can imagine! They're built like lives depend on them (cuz they do) and they include the bearings, lugs, bolts and nuts. The holes where the struts attach are beautiful for mounting to a steel cross member you can make. Saves me having to buy the smaller "trailer" wheels. A bit of imagination and you save a pile like this. Don't have winter wheels? Pick up some wheels with tires already on them at the scrap yard. They're usually dirt cheap and strong as anything. Want some strong fabrication steel? Leaf springs might do the trick. They weld nicely (although that affects their springy-ness.) Sadly, I haven't thought of how to cheapskate my way out of having to buy the heavy square steel pipe yet... Unavoidable cost, I suppose. Crying shame with the price of steel these days. Thanks for a great video! Really resourceful and quite inspiring. I know what I'm doing this weekend!

Awesome! As long as it gets the job done is all that matters. Check Facebook marketplace. I seem to find pretty good deals on old/rem steel there. Cheers

From one cheapskate to another - some of the best angle iorn steel available (I don’t think you could even purchase that quality - I think it may even be tempered) are old steel bed frames - people dump them all the time they are a great quality - I often weld angles together to make tubes. The scrapyard or Goodwill let those things go cheap.

Quick question? All that rust on those pipes? Should you not sand remove and paint the whole thing for longevity??
@tickcreekranch

Yes we could pain but, I prefer to let it fully rust and then apply boiled linseed oil. Shiny rust! I like the look and simplicity. Applying a drying oil is a traditional way of preserving steel. 👍

I usually just go by the suggested feed and voltage settings under the door of the welder. You’ll get an ear for it when it’s right. Although flux core (FCAW) has a very different sound than metal inert gas (MIG). Make sure to push your weld and not pull to get penetration👍
