It’s why I love them as a couple, Cloud and Tifa. Forget the shipping wars and all that nonsense, people can still like Cloud with Aerith more, but Cloud and Tifa have been through lives being dragged through hell so many times, and they were often dragged through it together. Their shared traumas, through everything the world threw at them, they either had each other or the memory of each other when they weren’t near. And they came out of it stronger together. They deserve to have their happily ever after with each other.

​@@MetaGrave that's the whole lesson of this. While Aerith is my faborite character in rpgs I truly believe there is a lesson in here. To do what needs to be done and value what you have. For one Aerith was the greatest friend. For other purest love. Yet they need to let it go.

I think that's a point that a lot of people who ship Cloud with Aerith either don't understand or flat out forget. Aerith doesn't know Cloud she herself acknowledges that fact. It gets me poignant when you realize that the time she has spent with Cloud is a few weeks at best. Their "love story" wasn't even at the starting line yet. He's probably spent more time as a vegetable than he has with Aerith. His relationship was always just an ideal fantasy it's not based on reality because the reality is that they don't really know each other.

You don't get the context. Aerith for the first two acts was the love interest. Tifa had feelings for him but couldn't vome out. AFTER Aeriths death AND Clouds meltdown Tifa finds the courage be that only person for Cloud. This is the true start of them being a couple.

@wmen48 Aerith wasn't the love interest. The story goes out of its way to give you a choice, but it also goes out of its way to tell you that the persona that Cloud has at that point in the game is completely fake. Aerith even realizes it herself not that long before he death. And even then, all of her love scenes with Cloud are completely optional. The word you are looking for is misdirection. Fun fact, Square has never referred to Aerith as Cloud's love interest (they've actually called Tifa his love interest many times though) they've only stated that she loves him but it's never been stated to be mutual.

And this is why I like remakes expansions and slight changes (even if not all are better than OG) it makes it obvious and even changes Aerith to have a more fleshed out backstory to why shes so empathetic and even perceptive on her knowing Cloud isnt being genuine. Even though she had memories of the future in part 1 she still treats him very well even without future knowledge in Rebirth and its pretty obvious Cloud is attracted to how open she is, its never outright said he loves her but its basically spelled out if you know more or less how people act when they are romantically attracted to someone even to someone as dense as Cloud. I just find it ridiculous how much mental gymnastics some people take to absolutely discredit she was never the interest or even a possibility. Epecially the Tifa shippers even though yall already know Aerith wont suddenly come back from the dead and be with Cloud, besides even in the canon novel on the way to a smile Cloud refuses to respond to Tifa when she asks if he loves her and yet Clerith shippers almost never call Tifa just a platonic friend. Ya'll want to have your cake and eat it too.

@gatorssbm Cleerith shippers always call Tifa a platonic friend. In fact, a lot of Clerith shippers insist that Cloud and Tifa are not in a relationship. As for Cloud loving Aerith, it's never been stated. While it has been stated officially multiple times that he loves Tifa, even in the og game itself, the same is not true for Aerith as at most, the devs have stated that Aerith loved Cloud. Remember Cloud's mental state at the time that Aerith was in the party was messed up. In universe. The time that Aerith was with the party was just a few weeks at best. He didn't have the ability to love anyone at the time. By the time that Cloud had recovered, she was dead. As far as the devs have stated, despite Aerith loving Cloud, the truth is their relationship was still in the infancy state. They were nowhere near the stage to start a relationship. Yes, the Remake has her spend way more time with Cloud, but how much of that will matter in the grand scheme of things? In the og game, Aerith doesn't spend much time with Cloud because that's the point. The relationship wasn't near the starting point. While Aerith loved him, she didn't know him as a person. The game casts doubt on her love for him as a result.

I mean they made cloud kiss her in rebirth & the almost kiss scene in chapter 9 it’s all building for part 3 just like the og
