David de Gea should be the first name on the Manchester United team sheet. His contract certainly suggests it.
But recently he has seen his place dislodged by 24 year old Dean Henderson. This wasn’t a surprise, de Gea’s form was faltering.

As a United supporter, De Gea is already a legend. He stayed with United during their worst years and pretty much kept us afloat. He was United's best player for 4-5 seasons and did all that with some absolute shite defences in front of him. With that being said, his time has passed and now Deano needs to take over. I really wish DDG the best and i know many United supporters feel the same way, he will go down a club legend.

He is still very good. Not of the 2018 form, but still very good.Of The goals conceded 1 or 2 are his fault. Rest are on the defence and/or the midfield. So he is still very good.

Or it maybe that change of system has impacted him. He is a great shot stopper but not a vocal sweeper keeper. Dean is so much more confident ventures forward and attacks the ball which is important since we play a high line under ole

He’s still capable of a world class performance every now and again, but all the faults and mistakes highlighted in this video are still relevant. Henderson saves the 3rd Leipzig goal all day because he is much braver and more commanding..De Gea is still the better shot stopper but you can see that the defence looks more comfortable with Henderson + Maguire rather than DDG + Maguire

Sad thing that goalkeepers are remembered by their mistakes. Same thing happened with Casillas before. He was replaced by De Gea. Now it's De Gea and he would be replaced by someone. Life comes to a full circle.

Not to mention last international game he made an error for Spain to mark his fourth or fifth error leading to goal for just this season in all comps. De gea was only put into that position in the final because Ole refused to make subs to freshen up the team and the outfield players didn't kill off the game. 3. Since when are the majority of goalkeepers well known for being clinical penalty takers? If you think De gea lost United the final last night you are looking at this situation through immature eyes.

Jose makes all Goalkeerpers have their best years... due to Great defensive structure from Open Play...Mostly only conceding low quality shots... - Cech - Cesar - Casillas - Lopez - Courtois - De Gea - Romero - Lloris I believe on average a Jose Team concedes shot with a >70% Save Percentage vs what Ole Ball concedes are

He's been very good this season, has had multiple seasons when he's been literally their best player as a goalkeeper and had it all on his shoulders when they've been in very poor form, utd would be wrong to part ways with him and it'd be so disrespectful to one of the best players they've ever had. He's produced some of the greatest saves ever seen in the game.

How many of those conceded goals were actually goalkeepers fault this season? Deano have bearly been tested this season, most of his saves have been shots directly at him. Kids are too obsessed with stats and not with whats actually happening on the pitch. DDG might not be what he used to, but Dean surely hasnt proved that hes better yet

To play attacking football u have to have a goalkeeper who is good with ball. He is literally the worst goalkeeper in league in terms of catching ball and ball progression.the attack starts from goalkeeper. Why do u think teams able to play attacking?? Look at Brighton itself and look at Sanchez, Ederson,Allison,ramsdale. Why do u think Ajax were that good, They had onana was great on ball , that’s the only way u can be saved from press. Brighton pressed and as soon as they pressed , united were getting out numbered in their own half because de gea can’t play with ball. And in the same game Brighton literally were cutting your press so easily because sanchez is great on ball and He works as extra man in defence.

For however his form is rn, he will still remain as one of the most respectable player for utd. Even till today he shows glimpses of his past glory, many times he has made unbelievable blocks, but then also has made equal number of errors In the end de gea should move on, get into a more forgiving league and gain his confidence back. He is still a world class player and as a utd fan, I'm thankful for his exceptional service

His form is good right now. The goals he conceded this season, 1 or 2 are his fault. The rets is the defence and/or the midfield. Henderson played against weaker teams. Clean sheets are down to defence and midfield as well. Yes, he has declined. But he is still our no:1. Ole trusts him with Europa and not Henderson. Henderson is good, but as we saw yesterday, He can do unnecessary stuff, which could result in conceding an unnecessary goal., which we saw yesterday, it was offside, but no reason for him to run forward like that. People don't seem to understand this. He is still a very good keeper and has shown that this season. Ole will give De Gea the more important game over Henderson, as we have seen this season.

Dean's existence made all the difference, the way he controls his penalty area and leaves his goal to swipe and make clearances behind his defence or actually CATCH a cross is something we've been lacking sooo much with De Gea and actually made all the difference .. don't forget he was on the bench more than 60% of the season so far, i love De Gea, i felt heartbroken after watching this video and remembered how he was our best player and the huge sacrifices he made for us.. but let's admit, he isn't progressing at all unfortunately after that cursed Cristiano shit hattrick , it's the time for us to move forward crossing my fingers he can pick up his real form and stay at the club and retire as a red.. but currently, i don't see him as no. 1

its whole basis is to make money. That immediately discards it as a blunder as it does nothing, absolutely nothing to improve football. yes it would make the competition competitive, but only in the short term. There won't be team struggling for survival, teams in poor form genuinely being punished, and there won't be another leicester. The teams would become complacent, lazy, but rich, and richer, until their richness turn them into Orwellian pigs, and the inherent quality of football that we love, i.e. showing your quality and determination on the pitch, and the hunger to win, eventually fades away, until we are left with billionaires plump, and football pallid

As a united fan, no matter how it ends for him at united he will always remain as a united great for me in between the sticks. He was one of the best GKs I’ve ever seen for a number of years at united and was one of few players we could be proud of for several years. Whilst it may be time for him to move on, I wish him all the best and will never forget how brilliant he was at his peak. Love DDG.

The timing of this video is weird because De Gea has had a solid season, people turning on him now because of Dean and their English bias is strange but expected. One keeper plays against top 6 teams and keeps the team afloat, the other keeps clean sheets playing domestic cups against considerably weaker teams but is praised more. Do a deep dive on Man United's terrible CB pairing because they are just as to blame as De Gea.

Nah bro, i know the truth is hard to take but he's been an inconsisten player since that Ronaldo hattrick.... 17/18 De Gea was one of the best gk of all team, but suddenly after that game against portugal everything changed.... made many fatal errors and barely made any world class save (except maybe the game against roma), and i don't remember the last time he saved a penalty. He's become mediocre.... i really hope he finds his prime back

Further on my last point, comparison against Deano, Ederson, Mendy, Alisson, and Schmeichel this season: 2nd worst goals against per 90, with 3rd least shots on target against per 90 - the two below him both got the best and second best GA90 respectively; 2nd lowest save%, Dean Henderson got the best; second lowest wins per 90 - Deano is highest, highest draws per 90 - Deano is 2nd lowest, 0.12 more losses per 90 than Deano - who has the least losses per 90; tied lowest PSxG+/-, both in the negatives, the other was Eduoard Mendy; 2nd worst distribution stats (Deano is admittedly worst); only goalkeeper attempt no pressures on attackers in the box all season - Dean Henderson has second most attempted and the highest percentage of successful pressures; lowest percentage of crosses stopped, Dean Henderson is 2nd highest; lowest outside penalty area actions per 90, Dean is 2nd highest with 3 times as many as De Gea per 90; lowest average distance travelled for defensive action, Dean Henderson is 3rd highest. I can go back a season and find similar stats, probably even go back as far as 2 seasons ago At this point I can't believe anyone is defending De Gea any more, he was a brilliant servant to the club - but he's lost his edge and we can't keep overrating a player so much in such an important position just because he carried us for 5 years. It's time to move him on and give Deano and actual chance, based on his statistics for the past 2 seasons in the premier league, he deserves it.

Is that really the case though? For a team competing in multiple competitions like Manchester Utd, having goalkeepers that can play in different competitions is ideal to reduce fatigue. Also, if your No. 1 gets injured, you want a high quality replacement, given how integral shot stoppers are to a modern defence. Look at how Liverpool have struggled whenever Alison has been injured. Having two solid goalkeepers also places more pressure on the starting GK, with the idea being that his focus and motivation is increased.

Good video, Tifo. Now just need to update that old video of yours explaining De Gea and near post myth, which I thought was bs. It was clear for many years that De Gea was poor in protecting his near post. And by the way, I said this many times. De Gea loves making 'Hollywood' saves. There are many times he could have just saved by just standing and palm away the way. There were no need for spectacular dives - which made him look like he made incredible saves.

As the last line of defence, the GK has to do his best at all times to avoid conceding. All top goalkeepers make errors at some point or the other, but it's the frequency of those errors that is worrying for David. Nevertheless, he has been a top servant of the club and single-handedly won us a ton of games in the past.
