James Ward Prowse has joined West Ham from Southampton for a fee of £30 million. The England international was relegated to the Championship last season with the Saints, but finds himself back in Premier League football.
Ward Prowse is close to becoming the PL’s record free kick scorer following his time on the South Coast, with 17 scored he’s just one off tying David Beckham at the top.
But just why is his free kick technique so good? Jon Mackenzie is joined by Liam Tharme to take a look at just how he has mastered his craft.

One of the reasons tifo is so good is because they do more technical videos like this. Most football analysis just focus on positioning and tactics and energy but not as much the technical footballing side

Difficult thing to properly discuss, because there are so few people who actually understand it, that can also articulate it, and use the right imagery for us all to understand it sufficiently. But you’re right, these dudes do it brilliantly

very similar but with bent plant leg. He varies his upper body. The strong similarity is the rolling of the plant leg ankle after kicking it. This commentator was wrong about the forces on the leg after kicking - at this moment he is effectively weightless so no issues on the body. We are meant to rotate. If you don't roll the ankle you put stress on the hip and knee. Messi's plant leg is at a similar angle, only with more bend at the knee. Occassionally his plant leg flares up out of the way like JWP but not every time. Bending the leg allows messi to do paneka free kicks because you can adjust the amount of spin you put on the ball vs the amount of direct force, whereas a straight plant leg is more consistent.

I don't understand the hype for him. He's good, yes but he's not that good. I agree though 40M for him is an OK amount. I would've tried for lower cause this guy is a one trick pony. His assists for Southampton last season is only 5 across all competitions. He scored 11 goals, and his completion rate is only 85%. For a guy that is supposed to be very good at passing and crossing that's not high enough.

No one says he's a world class midfielder overall. He's a mid table Prem level CM perhaps, but his set piece delivery is world class
@dster345
@dster345 9 ай бұрын
That's the danger of looking at stats out of context though and not taking into account the player's role in the team. As a midfielder who is relied on to create chances a completion rate of 85% would actually be very good. In the same way Lindelof's pass completion of 93% does not make him the Premier League's best passer, Kevin De Bruyne's (perhaps the best passer all things considered) 73% does not make him a terrible passer.
@rushilkaul
@rushilkaul 9 ай бұрын
@@dster345 yeah that's probably another reason. The more creative midfielders take more risks when passing, which leads to a lowering of pass success rates
