Great video mate. I’m looking to add an RP to the garage very soon. Will certainly go more off road tyres but seeing what you’ve done on road tyres gives me a lot more confidence in the 20/80 range rather than 50/50. I want to do what you’re doing and camp also. Very cool videos man!
@australianadv
@australianadv Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, I really appreciate that. The tyres really depend on exactly what sort of riding you want to do. The 80/20 tyres are pretty good in the dry, but for off-road stuff really the more aggressive the better. Everything is a compromise. I’m now on Continental TKC80 and they are fantastic off-road and pretty good on road

Great ride mate! Thanks again for posting... Yeah the brown snakes can go you for sure. He was thinking about it cause he flattened his head for a few seconds before he moved on. I haven't been chased by one but suspect he would have caught you in your heavy boots and riding gear, so good move staying still...

I enjoyed your video. Some narly tracks. Great to see that Eastern Brown (from a distance). I'll be interested in your tyre choice. I've chosen a Motoz Tractionator Adventure rear and Bridgestone AX41 front. Hopefully fitting them soon to my Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Also getting my head around the TPMS as the new tyres will be at different pressures to the Triumph settings. Hopefully, you'll find that Lost City at some stage on another Motorcycle Adventure. 👍😁

Great adventure! I've had the Rallz on my 900 for about 3200 miles (~5km). I haven't seen as much wet/muddy/slick conditions as you've shown, but am very happy with them in other off-pavement conditions. They're quite loud on pavement, but grip well and have given me no reason to wish for something more road oriented (other than the noise factor). They're either getting a little quieter or I'm getting more used to them.

It’s a beautiful spot mate. I’ve spent a fair bit of time on the plateau, but in my 4wd. It looks fun on a bike! That second trail you took to get to the Lost City is actually the easier of the 3 or four routes, but there’s so many tracks in the initial 1km of that route, that it’s easy to accidentally wind up on a track with bog holes and deep ruts. Sometimes you’ll see where 4wd groups have left markers in the trees to show the easier route. There’s an absolute tonne of tracks through that area, leading to incredible scenery. It’s easy to eat up half a day and only make it to 2 or three spots.
@australianadv

Thanks for the comment. It sure is a beautiful spot. I've been up 4 times now (once in a 4x4), and keep finding new tracks. Another good thing is it's a few degrees cooler in summer up there.

thanks for the vid, as another tiger900 rider enjoy them, in fact if you ever want to catch up for a ride let me know. Some quick feedback. The snake you saw was actually you a tiger snake, not an eastern brown. The tyres, I HIGHLY recommend the Pirrelli Scorption Rally STR, I've got them on mine and honestly you can't tell the difference on tar compared to stock, but offroad they are amazing. Hence why they are the default on T700 and the ducati desert x. Finally, I highly recommend checking out steg pegz and pivot pegz, they completely changed the offroad feel for me on the tiger900. Additionally I would recommend the barkbusters and replacing the stock bash plate and protection, neither will actually take a hit on the types of riding you're doing.
@peterhallahan8098
@peterhallahan8098 Жыл бұрын
I am also running the Pirrelli Scorpion Rally STR's on my 900 Rally Pro. I am about renew the rear. I am not an experienced off-road rider and I need every assistance I can get. I cannot out-run the tyres on paved roads and they are definitely up for the dirt and gravel roads I want to explore. Great option. I am also a fan of barkbusters and some upgraded protection. I would express caution, however, about strapping on crash-bars which bolt to the front cylinder head mount. There is a fair bit of forum traffic about catastrophic failures without having to put the bike down. There are clearly some physics at play which have not been understood by the after-market engineers.
@australianadv

Cheers for the invite and thanks for the tips, the Pirellis do seem a bit more sensible for the road, which is where I spend a lot of my time, even just getting out to the offroad places. And you're right about the snake, definitely a tiger. I thought it might have been a juvenile brown because of the faint stripes.

Gday Mate I have the Tiger 900 rally and I have just installed the Motoz Dualventure on front & GPS on the rear. They are great for on and off-road. I had Rallz (front) and adventure (rear) before which I thought could be better for on-road grip so i changed them out. The dualventure is still as noisy as the Rallz on the front. The GPS on the rear does not provide as much traction as the Motoz Adventure but its far better on-road. I will be commuting far more than doing off-road laps of Australia so I think its a good compromise so far.

Hi, I immediately changed the tyres on my RP when I got it - put on Bridgestone Trailmax Mission. Done 10k kms in 6 months (70% dirt) .... Great off and on road but with a little more noise on the front when on tarmac. Barkbusters are a must also. Added some Lone Rider Motopegs which make a huge difference standing up. Some quality full height boots with solid ankle protection are a must also....

Thanks for the tips. I've got some great boots now, but need some pants to go over them. Looking at the Klim Dakar because it's so hot here this time of year. Just getting the rubbers out of the Tiger's pegs made a huge difference, but some bigger pegs would be good.

I’ve got a Motoz Tractionator GPS on the rear and a Dualventure on the front of my Suzuki XF650. Both tubeless, with tubes fitted on 19/17 wheels. They worked great on and off road in loose gravel and sand etc, but haven’t tried them in mud yet. I like the smoothness of the gps rear on the road, but it still hooks up great in the deep sand. I like a chunky front for off-road, because if the front grips that’s the most important thing for my confidence, and the rear will typically just follow. The DV was also good enough on the road, but I only tried it in the dry. I’m happy with the combination so far, but I’m riding a relatively light Suzuki which is fairly easy to handle on the proper dirt tracks, with a low seat height advantageous as well.
@australianadv
@australianadv Жыл бұрын
That's a nice setup, it was on my shortlist. I ended up going with Continental TKC80 front and back, and they've been great on and off road. They wear down pretty quick so I might give the RallZ a go on the rear and DV on the front pretty soon. Thanks for the info
@RealHooksy
@RealHooksy Жыл бұрын
@@australianadv cool. I had the tkc80 on my list until I saw the DV. A mate has the continental on his 790 and he’s been happy with it, but he did get 2 punctures in it on our trip to Broken Hill a couple of weeks ago. From thorns out near Silverton. He put 2 plugs in it but they leaked because they were very close together. Luckily we bumped into a guy at a servo who took us to Robs dirt bikes. He was just going to put a tube in it, but they had a Rallz in stock and fitted it up while we waited. On a Sunday morning! With a hangover!! Legends!!!

@@australianadv yes, excellent service. The place looks like a tip and it’s out on the edge of town, but good blokes who know their stuff. A new tyre on a Sunday morning saved us from nursing it all the way home. We had 200km of dirt with no backup so we probably would have stayed on the black stuff otherwise. It turned a boring commute into a great outback ride, and gave us another story to tell at the pub😎
@RealHooksy
@RealHooksy Жыл бұрын
@@australianadv and on the thorns, yes they were massive. It made the tyres look like a bicycle. I had no problem with the DV’s though, but I put that down to the deep tread, and in its defence, the tkc was quite worn.

900 RP here as well. In Florida we have mostly deep sand but red clay in the Panhandle. I run a Dual Venture up front and a Tractionator Adventure in the Rear. The Adventure tire I think is amazing and the Rally should be even more so. But the Dual Venture is so loud on the road that I'm think of going more Road oriented when the time comes. Perhaps the Scorpion STR or Anakee Adventure. We'll see.

You actually did find the lost city. The lost city was a war time strategy. Exactly where you said they placed a heap of lighs through valley to make it look like Lithgow as Lithgow had a small arms factory. Made ammunition from memory. I use the rallyz on the front and gps on the rear about to swap to the rallyz on the rear. They whole noones plateau is like that road wise. Challenging area to ride but beautiful place to visit.

@@banjopluker8254 err Lost City is a reference to the fact that it looks like an abandoned city. I'm seriously impressed with how far you got on the stock tires, I've done a few easy fire trails and gravel tracks on my RP and had zero confidence in them. I think the stock tires are the biggest mistake Triumph made with this bike, surely they could have offered an 80/20 tire as a factory option, even if it was only for the RP version. I'll be keeping an eye on here for others thoughts, I'm still battling with the battlaxe's but I've got my eye on a set of Mitas E07+ Dakar because my local Victorian tracks are more rocky and shaley than up north so I wanted the tougher carcass of the Dakar variant.
