This is the legendary Tikka T3x Lite.
I purchased this rifle with my own funds, and all opinions are my own.
Tikka rifles are made by Sako in Finland. Their extreme attention to detail and quality is what makes them world famous. Although this exceptionally accurate rifle is an excellent candidate for hunting and precision shooting, its lineage can be traced back to 1921, when the company that would create the first T3 rifle 80 years later was founded.

I have only been shooting PMC 147gr and found it to be fairly accurate. The weight of the bullet is more significant based on the rifling twist of the barrel, and not necessarily the make of the firearm. For instance, barrels with more aggressive twists will be better at stabilizing heavier rounds, and the oppose is true for barrels with less intense rifling. Because I haven't tried any other 308 ammo, I can't really say. But I have really enjoyed .308 from PMC Bronze.

Thank you for your review! Recently, i bought exactly the same one for the same reasons, but had no chance to bring it to the range. I orded BMPED and am thinking how necessarily 20MOA rail is needed. I saw your video where you installed one of these. Do you really need these 20 MOA on this rifle? Thank you!
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 8 ай бұрын
No worries! The reason why I installed a 20 moa rail was because although I couldn’t at the beginning, I had plans for long range shooting and I knew the optic that I had would benefit from having a 20 moa rail for those longer distances. That said, if your scope has the adjustability, where you are not going to be hitting its limits when adjusting for elevation, and you’re not shooting more than 100m or so, there’s really no need for a 20 moa rail. I could argue that it’s not even necessary for 150m, but I wanted one to ensure I wouldn’t have any issue if I wanted to shoot even further.
@slavazavalin
@slavazavalin 8 ай бұрын
@canadianoperator thank you for your answer! I'm planning to shoot 100-300-500 yards/meters, but the problem is that the nearest long shooting range is 40 minutes to drive, and my local go-to gun ranges are 100 m maximum. Ahgrrr!
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 8 ай бұрын
@@slavazavalin sure thing :) Yeaj for 500 you definitely want to have a little help from your rail if you can afford it. Of course it won’t hurt having it even when you’re not shooting that far. But if you are and you don’t have it, and your scope can’t compensate (it may not have a high moa angle of adjustment) then you may be out of luck. So, having better than not having in this case :)

I was very curious about the CTR before I sprung for this one. I’m not sure why, but I think I went for the slightly more classic look because of what our government is doing these days. They seem to have a very shallow, misunderstood and broad opinion about firearms based on how they look. I would have likely preferred the aesthetics of the CTR, but I played it safe(r) and went with this. I’m still extremely satisfied. Except… my shoulder is crying a little today haha. I underestimate the kick a little in this video ;)

Nice rifle and nice video! But is the action so smooth because it is so finely machined, or because there is lots of play between the bolt and the receiver?
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 24 күн бұрын
Sako’s machining tolerances are stupid tight. That said you do always want a little bit of play, this helps prevent the bolt getting stuck in the cold or with dried up debris in the receiver. But yeah they have one of the smoothest actions ever made.
@14guitars67
@14guitars67 11 ай бұрын
Tikka has such an excellent rail system built into the receiver, I'm wondering why you added a one-piece rail for your scope? It certainly can't add any more strength than the solid receiver has already. Did you do this for more scope relief or for some other reason? It just seems to me that this would add another layer of things that can move and change the point of impact.
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 11 ай бұрын
Actually the point of adding the pic rail was to prevent anything from moving. The style of rail that comes on the receiver has no recoil lugs, so mounting a scope direct to it - the only thing stopping the rings from moving on that rail is sheer friction. The 4 screws keeping the pic rail on the receiver won’t budge. It’s on there solid and the screws have loctite, so even with vibrations and regular shooting there’s no way they’ll come lose. So, the pic rail is on there really solid. Now, using the pic rail is great, because each of the rings (two in total) has a recoil lug that goes in between the grooves of the tail. Before tightening the rings down, you hold them back, pulling them back towards you until they stop on the rail, then tighten. The reason for this is that with recoil, they are already sitting against a lip on the rail, and will not move further back. This is not guaranteed with a beaver tail rail or similar rails, because again, the only thing holding the rings, and subsequently the scope, is friction. This also adds compatibility, as most scope manufacturers also make rings compatible for the pic rail, and because it’s a popular standard, many more types and styles of rings among other accessories are available for it. Finally, this rifle is used by me for long range shooting. The rail adds an additional 20 MOA of relief, allowing the scope to zero on very distant targets. I hope that answers your question.

@@canadianoperator My Tikka T3x has holes for recoil pins. My UM rings include recoil pins. I understand that not all rings include recoil pins. But with UM rings you get an integral rail with recoil lugs. Nothing you can add on top of that is more secure the rail actually bring part of the receiver.

Beautiful!! Do you use it primarily for target shooting? If so, how long do you wait between shots? Apparently after 3 shots the groups start to open up with light barrels. Most people go for the CTR or Varmint models to be able to shoot more consecutively, but the price difference is huge between those and the lite model. For someone who's not looking to get into PRS/competition, I feel like the lite model would be sufficient, but would love to hear your opinion, thanks!!
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator Жыл бұрын
Howdy! First of all thanks very much for watching and for the great comment/question. So, primarily I purchased this for precision target shooting. But while I wait for my outdoor range membership, I use it at indoor ranges at about 25m. Secondary function is hunting, but that will be a while before I try that :P As for shots and groups, I find 3 to be a sweet spot because that’s the size of the magazine. While you can work the action while still looking through the scope, it’s tougher to do that while also changing the magazine. I’d also consider how the barrel temperature affects successive shots. For the Tikka I don’t think it makes. Huge difference but don’t know from personal experience just yet. That said, Tikka (and their distributor Stoeger Canada up here) do offer extended magazines (4 or 5 if I’m not mistaken). So that’s always an option. The compact tactical rifle is very nice but those are designed to accept magazines with 10 rounds. The reason I didn’t get that one wasn’t the price, but that very stipulation, which may be affected by a new law later this year if it passes (bill c21) which would prohibit certain firearms which were designed to accept magazines with more than 5 round capacities for the type of ammo for which they were originally designed. If that’s not a concern for you the CTR has a nice benefit in that it’s slightly more ergonomic and comes with a rail already attached, so one less thing to do when mounting an optic. Tikka is made by Sako as I mentioned. Which is legendary for accuracy. So no matter which one you get, you’ll have a great rifle. :)
@razmikartashes9992
@razmikartashes9992 Жыл бұрын
@@canadianoperator Hello Fellow Canadian! Thank you for the lengthy answer! It makes sense if the magazine is 3 rounds, you would naturally stop and reload while waiting for the barrel to cool down. For bill C21 I completely understand, nothing is safe these days with those new laws. For me the CTR is more the price and its use. I find it is more PRS-oriented. Most people will take the stock off and put it in a chassis and other upgrades. Plus, from what I've heard, it can be a little heavy if you want to hunt with it due to the barrel. In any case, I have no doubt in Tikka's quality!

@@derekmcmurry Well, keep in mind that the vast majority of folks have no issue and the rifles, do indeed, shoot 1 moa out of the box. That said, a lot of things can influence this. The way you mount your optic, the type of optic you use, the environmental conditions, the ammunition, the temperature of your barrel, and your breathing discipline, for example. That's not to defend Tikka in the absence of the quality that was promised, but also to say that there are a lot of things that influence accuracy. Have you considered contacting them and seeing if they can do something about that? It IS a guarantee after all. Might be worth exploring.

@@canadianoperator Yes I'm aware of all the factors affecting accuracy. I've been handloading for about 33 years. I did not contact Tikka. I had a Brux 30 cal barrel on hand in 10 twist, #3 contour and AGStocks is 15 min from my dads house. So with the conveniences at hand, I'm actually eager to get the rifle back and see how it does. I'm 50/50 anyway about future Tikkas remaining in factory configuration. I lean towards buying them simply for the action to build something nicer.

@@derekmcmurry I didn’t mean to sound condescending there. I also make training videos and there’s no way for me to know each individual’s experience level, so I try to offer insight when I can. As it stands though I’m quite happy with mine. Disappointing that you had the experience you did, but hoping the changes will make you happier with your rifle and most importantly help the ride become as accurate as you expect it to be.
