This shit is why people come to Sephora needing a therapy session. I get clients who walk in with kind eyes, warm laughs, and all sorts of great features begging to be "fixed", claiming up and down that there are a million things wrong with them. Makeup should be FUN. Its there to make you feel GOOD about what you have. Its an art, not a requirement.

As a black woman, I've side eyedthe fuck out of contouring since it became a popular concept for this very reason. And I've noticed that a lot of these glow up contouring things will attack the shit out of anyone's nose, but especially women of color that do not have the long and sharp nose profile. And I'm not going to lie, it's made me self-conscious at times even though my nose looks fine with the rest of my face and functions as a nose should. And I'm 30 fucking years old lmao.

@@fricketyfracktraintrack for real! It’s really so upsetting to me, I have multiple friends who’ve told me about how they used to photoshop their noses in pictures to be smaller. I didn’t grow up with television so I think my first exposure to the idea that a lot of people saw hooked and large noses as ugly was through the Harry Potter books, I remember finding jk Rowlings descriptions of villain characters so needlessly cruel even when I was like nine or ten, it actually shocked me a little lol. That shit fucked me up for years. I would beat at my nose bridge to try and get it less bent. Until in 9th grade I realized so many people around me had similar insecurities too. I draw, so I spent a chunk of my time back then drawing the noses of people who said they were insecure of them and showing them how they all are in the grand scheme of things when placed next to each other. I had really bad cracking and bleeding eczema, my asthma got worse over that time, I had really bad and worsening anxiety. Even after that my skin, that hasn’t suffered eczema since I was a baby still has issues as well as almost zero tolerance for sun. I am a quarter japanese and used to tan super easily, almost never got burned; last time I went to Hawaii with my family I had sun poisoning for half the trip. @vuivraalbastra2 ай бұрын
Same here, other than acne in my late 20s I'm happy with my face and have been for a long time. Wearing make up doesn't make me feel prettier, just different. If I wanted to see how I'd look with contour and concealer I'd just use that myself or go to a specialist for it, not a random person on the internet whose opinion I couldn't care less about. And people don't NEED to "glow up" anyway, it's completely fine to just live our lives (or most of it since there's still special events sometimes) not looking like a supermodel.

thank you for the mention about people suggesting accutane like it's some new groundbreaking thing. i've had cystic acne for a decade now, and the amount of people that suggest accutane, clearasil, cerave, you name it... like i've never heard of it before and get mad when i don't grovel at their feet for suggesting a "magical cure-all". i don't really struggle with having acne aesthetically anymore, it's just physically painful, but it's still nice to have someone recognize that it sucks to deal with and it's demeaning when people are constantly trying to "fix" your face and acting like you're stupid or ungrateful when you have your own ideas about it.

love how she just tells someone to get a prescription for acne medication, professional teeth whitening, braces, etc. as though it's easy & cheap. i was told when i was younger that i should get braces. I didn't because it would have cost thousands of dollars out of pocket.

Professional teeth whitening will only go so far too. Some people just have a natural yellowy tone.
@sydliminal2 ай бұрын
@@franjkav yeah. that, and people are encouraged to whiten their teeth beyond the (generally) more grey/not strictly white that they are naturally. like, the _glowingly_ white teeth shown in advertisements for say, dental hygiene products in general, aren't typically what teeth look like.

@@franjkavplus that shit HURTS. i went thru one 10 minute round of teeth whitening w some machine and it damaged my gums so bad i had to drop the operation. do NOT recommend

i’d rather be unalived than see a dentist again nuh uh they hit my trigeminal nerve with a needle while fixing my teeth once never again👹

Also its wild that she's obviously the sort of person who thinks makeup is about "fixing imperfections" and not enhancing your features or expressing creativity and that's so cringe. Like I do not own hundreds of dollars worth of eyeshadow pallets because I think I'm ugly and am trying to hide. 😐 If you do that sounds like a personal issue of projection.

We are twins! I've always hated my big ass nose but I realized that one of my favorite features on people is usually their nose, regardless of size. One of my besties has a relatively big hooked nose, and I think she looks so cool.

Facts! I used to hate my big nose and saying it makes me look like a pig but i have noticed that it doesn't really matter, and I'm only hurting myself, if I'm going to live with this nose..... Then i have to love it or it's going to be a weak point! Stay strong girls 🫡🔥@@gianna526

like why do people automatically think they are ugly if they don’t fit the western beauty standards, beauty comes in SO many different forms. like let’s not. like you can have a bigger, wider nose, chin, cheeks, lips, eyes, WHATEVERRR. that does NOT make you ugly i don’t care what anybody says.
