There something so comforting about seeing smoke coming out of a chimney pipe on a cold day knowing there a nice warm wood stove inside.

Great job on the stove, looks great and works great. I plan on putting some type of wood stove in my shop, spent the last few days cutting firewood and stacking it up. We have a wood fireplace in the cabin and it heats the whole upstairs. Real wood stoves or wood fireplaces are not put in new houses as much in Georgia. But, they work so well to heat up an area. I was always taught to put a small fan on the back side of the stove to spread the heat around. Even the 18 volt battery for Milwaukee has one that they sell. That would spread the heat around some. Just trying to keep you warm. Looking forward to your forge,

@alvindueck82274 жыл бұрын
Good vid. But I've got a question. Those chimneys hold the heat until the smoke is exhausted, why not keep the chimney inside till the very top of the gable? Thus keeping more of the heat in the structure.
@GreatPlainsCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Good point, but I will use the loft and didn't want to have to loose space for the chimney clearance to combustibles up there.
@tc.hammerham989 Жыл бұрын
”Serious question” why didn't you run the stove pipe on the inside of the barn up to the peek ok the gable and run it through the wall up top maybe a couple feet down so you could have bracing and two spots to hold it seems like the stove pipe would generate heat?

I recently purchased an old house with an old barn, the barn was built in 1910, the timbers inside the building all are native and still have the bark, it is beautiful. I really want to heat the first floor of the building somehow but its pretty big and has no electricity. I was looking at cast iron wood burners but the only thing that's got me nervous is how old and dried out the barn is, also its far from a clean barn so its dusty and dirty. Should I be worried about the risk of a fire in a barn like that? Please tell me I'm being a worry wart and some sheet metal around it would be just fine!
@GreatPlainsCraftsman3 жыл бұрын
Be sure to have the correct clearances listed for the stove, and protect the floor underneath from heat and sparks with a non combustible product. Common sense prevails here. Lots of wood stoves in wood buildings. Just be smart about it
@raptor73474 жыл бұрын
I didn't notice a damper. Wouldn't it help to retain heat?
@GreatPlainsCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
The controls on the stove allow me to do that.
@edwardseth12304 жыл бұрын
the chimney is almost to the main peak of the gable end... you don't have to take it up all the way...the top 3 pieces of the chimney are very close to the barn wall itself.. suggestion: so add a few inches extra to the outward pipe from the hole in the barn wall...might fix that dilemma...good that gonna do is.. keep the chimney closer to the wall.. and the 3 extra pieces of the chimney itself can be shortened to 1 or simply 2 pieces..you won't have to climb up all the way to take it down when cleaning next spring. Thankyou for the video, stay safe.. stay warm.. GOD BLESS.
@GreatPlainsCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Hello Edward. The chimney must extend at least 3ft above the roof line by code in this situation. If not, the chimney will not draft. Mine is about 3 1/2 ft so a bit high but not much. You cannot terminate below the roof line. Thanks for watching!
@ironcladranchandforge72924 жыл бұрын
If you really want to heat up the barn, get a gas forge like mine!! Man that forge puts out a lot of heat. The coal forge will too, but most of the heat will go up the stove pipe. I have both a coal and gas forge, but I'll be using the gas more since coal is hard and expensive to get here in Eastern Oregon. I'll save the coal for forge welding projects. Still haven't done a video yet since I'm still dealing with this septic problem.

You make it look pretty easy. I have an old wood stove in my garage, sitting on a furni pad with one broken leg. My living room has a set up for the last owner of the house that had the stove. I've been waiting two weeks for the nearest dealer/installer to give me a call just to set up the appointment for a chimney inspection, they warned me they were gonna be busy for a while because most idiots like me wait until the last minute. However, setting up an appointment takes like 5 minutes? I'm running out of patience.

@ccswede4 жыл бұрын
They put 2 adds on your show that add up to the length of the post. One for xeralto is over 10 minutes. The other for a game or something was almost 8 minutes. Who is going to watch adds like that which are longer than your post. Watch adds usually to help your channel but that is extreme. I understand you have no control over that. Now the installation was very informative. Noticed the snow by the forge pot so know it’s cold in there. Keep up the educational post.

looks great Tim why do you have to have so much chimney above the roof?think how mech extra heating you have gained with that amount of pipe inside double the heating value for sure
@GreatPlainsCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
The rules of chimney installation dictate that for drafting purposes James. Mine is about a foot taller than needed but even that close to the peak I needed at least 3 ft past the roof line. Further down it would have been much worse.
@jamesharris78684 жыл бұрын
