Does it have to be on the compression stroke to time it?

You missed a very important point,in k24 the mark/dot on vtc gears will be between the chain links and in k20s the mark/dot will be under the cahin link.also in k24 there would be 8 chain links between the dots.in k20 there would be 7 And you do not need to check TDC in this method when you can see crank pulley timing mark.that method is necessary when you cant see that mark,for example while only changing the cams,you have not removed the timing chain cover

nice video. I am doing one this weekend on a 2.4 because of the P0341 code. I am going to check the timing marks first but I am certain the chain is worn. What size Allen keys did you use in the rear? I was thinking of using bolts.

Can somebody please explain to me the doos and don'ts of rotating the cams? My logic tells me that you rotate the crank with the old chain on until its lined up, and then you take the chain off, and rotate a cam if it is off timing. When it comes to rotating the cams on a k24, can I do it clockwise and counterclockwise? Is there a limit to how much I should turn it? My intake cam is off my a couple gears and I should only have to turn it counterclockwise maybe 10 degrees.. is this ok? Should I be able to do this? Also is there a limit to how much one should crank the engine manually? Could I end up messing up the crank sensor? And lastly is there i limit to how much I can turn the cams clockwise individually?

Before starting the car is it needed to delete the engine code? Or just start it. Thanks

Can you use the dowell pins in the cams to hold the motor so you can loosen the crank pulley bolt?? My electric impact isn't strong enough so need to use a pry bar. But need the motor locked up before it will work.

Hey man so I did all this and everything lines up but when I turn the motor my chain tensioner gets too tight and my chains get stuck.. and my motor won’t crank any further. Won’t even make 1 full revolution. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Every time i get all the timing marks lined up guides all tight i spin the engine around i cant seem to get the marks to line up again.I make sure its TDC i even put allen wrench in cam holes to lock the cams.I even double check everything and they never line back up again.How many complete turns is it on the cam gears before i would see my marks again? What im i doing wrong.I thought i had it 3 or 4 times now.Please help
