I don't think they avoided human faces because of difficulty. It was a stylistic choice, because this is a story about the animals. The humans are just a backdrop.

The human faces aren’t there because it’s meant to be a dog’s point of view. It’s a thousand times harder to strike such a perfect balance where they move like real dogs but still have expressions and human reactions without ever feeling overacted is beautiful . The making of of this movie is available on YT and it’s great to fully appreciate the art and effort put in this feature.

Fun fact: the opening scene where Lady is first introduced is based off of something Walt Disney actually did for his wife, when he gave her a chow puppy for Christmas.

The man virtually surrendered the studio during the war to the us government and the animators basically stopped Disney productions by creating content for the us government and the war effort. @@jodysargent9936 you want some real facts? I'll give them. The nazi accusation stems from his association with the Motion Picture Alliance, which was openly anti Semitic. Even if he wasn't one personally, he still willingly and wholeheartedly chose to associate with those that were.

Trivia: Originally, Trusty, the bloodhound, was supposed to die at first. But after what happened with Bambi when he killed off the mother, Walt Disney didn't want to kids and parents leaving the theater upset, so he had Trusty live at the end.

in the 1953 book, trusty does die. granted in the book trusty has more depth to him and him dying contributes to the Tramp's character development.

Peg the dog is voiced by famous actress Peggy Lee, and in "He's a Tramp" The dogs movements and wiggling during the number are based on her real life mannerisms when she performs on stage.

I just love the period setting for this movie. They make that turn-of-the-century look so beautiful and romanticized. The crazy thing is this period was like childhood nostalgia for Walt Disney and his animators. This and the way Peter Pan depict London are just so magical.

There is a theory floating around out there that the reason why Tramp says all those things about babies and humans implies that he went through the same thing Lady was going through. It's suggested that he lived in a home (not as fancy as Lady's owners) with a couple who were happy as they were until a baby came along. You notice in the few bits of dialog like "Stop that scratching! You'll get fleas all over the baby!" or lines describing the baby food or the doghouse; my guess is because of financial troubles and other issues, Tramp's owners decided they couldn't keep him anymore. I can think of two possibilities that happened which: 1. Tramp was left out in the doghouse until he decided to try and escape on his own. 2. His owners abandoned him in near the tracks and basically left him for "dead" It's sad but a cruel reality for a lot of dogs that owners will actually do this. And the fact that Disney accurately portrays all this from a dog's perspective is just brilliance. (Also love your guy's reactions to this movie)

I have always thought this! I would definitely take the abandoned one, it would explain why he sleeps there, it’s where he knows and maybe for a while there he thought they would come back..sad to think about but your right it does happen all the time in real life! My sister once found a little puppy in the dumpster, just left there to die, we took her home!

They actually bring this up in the live action movie. Tramp did have a family, but was abandoned after they had a baby and he didn't want to go through that heartbreak again. Which is why he tries to show Lady a fun time of being free and discourage her from going home. He doesn't want her to go through what he went through, believing Jim Dear and Darling to be like his old owners, and wants to get her out of there before it's too late.

It is definitely implied: when Jock and Trusty want to know who is he to come barging in, Tramp replies, “The voice of experience”.

The box that Lady was in as a puppy was a hat box, and Darling thought it was a hat that she had been admiring that was trimmed with ribbon. When she asks and Jim Dear say it has a ribbon he was referring to the one on Lady. Likely he just put it out a couple minutes prior and there were likely holes that just did not get animated. So yeah, no need to really worry much about Lady being there to long.

40:15 Something a lot of people miss about this scene: They're offering to marry her and let her stay with one of them because she's pregnant, and if word got out the father was a street dog, it would've ruined her reputation. They're doing this to help her save face. Also explains why they got so angry when he showed up again. In their eyes, he knocked her up and left her to take care of the puppies on her own.

Yes! Also that would mean when those other stray dogs were chasing her and about to attack she was in heat and weren’t going to necessarily hurt her but mate with her. That’s why they look so possessed when Tramp intervenes.

If you're interested, the baby's name is Jim Junior. This movie has a sequel too. Fun facts : some dogs of the movie make a cameo in " The 101 dalmatians " and in the french version, Jock, Joe and the old man of the zoo are voiced by the same guy : Roger Carel

Every dog owner can relate when Lady wanted to sleep with her owners, but Jim was reluctant at first, then gave in. Come on, who can't say no to that puppy face and the little whimpers and howls?! 🐶 🥺

I've heard some people come to Aunt Sarah's defense, about how she just doesn't know any better and how Jim Dear and Darling should have told her how to deal with Lady, so she's not evil. I say, she doesn't have to be evil to be annoying and awful, lol. For all we know, Jim Dear or Darling did give her instructions and she ignored them. And a terrible cat mom, seeing as how Si and Am are nasty and get away with things. Also, having lived with a Scottie mix, it's amusing just how accurate Jock is. That rooster crow of a bark when he shouts and growls, the object hoarding, the bounce with every bark, she's very much like Jock.

It's implied that Jock and Trusty were offering their homes to Lady not because her owners left, but because she got pregnant after her night with Tramp. They were offering to marry her because having children out of wedlock was frowned upon.

I agree that they were offering to marry Lady to "save her reputation," but it was because she had (gasp!) stayed out all night with a man. In 1909 when this is set, that by itself would be enough to "ruin" a woman. It's only the next day, so there'd be no evidence she was pregnant, it's just a matter of appearances, and these two old-fashioned gentlemen are determined to "do the right thing" by her.

@@ianij99 Dog pregnancy only lasts around 2 months on average .... lol.. and it takes up to 3 months for an adult dog's broken leg to heal. I think you guys are reading too much into it, there's no way Walt Disney or anyone else in production would have even imagined that nuance into their animated kid's film in 1955. They we're offering their homes because at that point aunt Sarah had literally put Lady in the doghouse, which was established early in movie that being put in the doghouse was a bridge too far according to Jock and Trusty. The whole children out of wedlock thing is never implied.

The beginning of the pound scene is always hard to watch without tearing up. It's just a testament to why you should adopt don't shop! Honestly, that is all I could think about at the start of the video when she was talking about going to the puppy store. There is plenty of love to be had at a rescue, including puppies that need good homes:)

I really loved how Trusty's voice actor made some of his lines sound like the howling/baying of a bloodhound, which is what Trusty's breed is. Jock is a Scottish Terrier, or Scottie, and Lady is an American Cocker Spaniel. Lastly but not leastly, Tramp is at least part Schnauzer!

I've owned Siamese cats for over 2 decades and yes, they are super friendly and TALKATIVE. my current girl is obsessed with me and insists on sitting on me every single moment that I am also sitting and demands constant pets and scratches.

I really like Lady and the Tramp, it’s is a very cute film about dogs. The animation is superb for one of the earlier Disney classics and the character’s are great as well. When someone brings up this film, the first thing that pops into your head is the famous spaghetti dinner scene. Nothing like seeing the romance between these two title character’s. 🐕🐕🍝😊

@@a.g.demada5263 I love 'The Aristocats'. It's one of my favorites. Maurice Chevalier singing the opening credit song is perfect for a movie set in Paris. He came out of retirement to do it and I think it was the final performance of his career.

@@Alexeya13 yes, I knew it 🙂 I was very surprised to discover he sings it in the original version. Did you know that was Eva Gabriel, Miss Bianca's voice actress, who voiced Duchesse in the original version ? And in the french, Roquefort and Lafayette are voiced by Roger Carel who voiced Bernard.

The movie was made in the 50s, but it was set in an earlier era judging by the tech. Even the doctor was in a horse drawn carriage.

My second favourite Disney film, being a dog person. Simply adorable! Fun fact: once I grew up, I always found it interesting they had Trusty "lose" his sense of smell, because he's a Bloodhound, the breed of dog that's considered the most adept at recognising smells, it's the most effective molecular dog there is today. Once they sniff out a trail, they don't stop until they get to the end; they're so focused they don't even hear the master's orders. And as they show in the end, they are very tender, calm dogs who has infinite patience, especially with little ones 💚 PS: The name means more simply 'pureblood', a name given to it as a sign of respect.

A lot of people talk about the one scene in "Bambi"... but for me that shot of Trusty at the end where he _looks totally dead_ was always far more upsetting to me as a child (even though he was shown to have lived in the next scene).

Trusty was supposed to die at the end, but they changed their minds last minute because they thought after Bambi, kids deserved a happy ending for everyone.

This has always been one of my favorite Disney films! I absolutely love dogs and love this cute story about a rich and poor dog! I love that we see things from Lady’s point of view, that’s why you rarely ever see their faces and the fact that she thinks their names are really Jim Dear and Darling because that’s what they always refer to each other, I’m sure Darling has a real name. I always thought the reason why Tramp chases the chickens was because he was trying to stall her a little longer, like he knew he was never going to see her again since she picked the baby over him and just wanted to spend a little more time with her but sadly things went bad.

My grandparents used to have Scotty dog named, Killer Bob. He was the reason Jock was my favorite character in this movie.

I was intrigued over Walt's fascination over the Cocker Spaniel when he and his crew were still assembling this movie in the 1950s. Perhaps this is why he made that breed of dog the lead in Lady & the Tramp.

Lady was originally suppose to be a Springer Spaniel it's why early depictions of her are shown with spots. I believe a Cocker Spaniel was Walt Disney's childhood dog and that's why they chose the breed.

If we think about Tramps take on humans with dogs when a baby comes into the picture maybe he used to have a home but was put into the situation where he was abandoned due to a new baby in the house. I think it would explain why he doesn't have a good thought on the idea of dog owners with a baby

I lost my beagle Molly in November. My 1st dog and always a sweetheart, she acted like Lady from the day I met her. I have her paw cast on my desk. Luckily love lives on and I have a 2 year old husky named Casimir and recently got a boxer puppy named Pudge (he was a little pudgy when we got him and the nickname stuck). The 2 boys love each other and the once wild Casimir is a good older brother. Checks up on Pudge and you can tell they love each other a lot. Sorry the comment is so personal, this movie just made me remember Molly and how much I loved her and my dogs. 😂

The film was made in the 50's but the story is set in the tu4n of the century (late 1800's) I had to laugh when Angelina said, oh, it's the 50's; they wore long skirts :)

Peg, the dog singing "He's a Tramp" was voiced by jazz singer Peggy Lee, who also co-wrote the songs for the movie. I think she also did the voices for the Siamese cats.

"I can't believe they'd do this in a Disney movie!" Have you never seen Bambi? XD Seriously, a lot of the older Disney movies have really dark parts, and in some of them, characters die. Not as dark as Don Bluth, but they're not afraid to show something dark or scary as long as there's a happy ending.

I was in elementary school when this was re-released in the sixties. I saw the commercials and stuff about it on "The Wonderful World of Disney" TV show, so I really wanted to see it, but my parents never got around to taking me or my siblings. I was in high school when it was re-released again in the seventies, so, after a decade, my little sister and I finally went see it. It was worth the wait. To this day, it's one of our favorite animated movies.

As a kid, i loved lady and the tramp! It was romantic and cute and i loved watching it over and over. That being said, now as a more aware adult, its tainted a bit by the EXTREMELY racist siamese cat scene and knowledge of walt disneys anti-asian history. Thats a sad reality of older movies, but instead of burying disneys past, as long as we are aware, its possible to still enjoy older media, and lady and the trump is one that brought me a lot of joy growing up, personally

I think that if they took little of the faces of the humans it was not because of difficulty, but to give even more prominence to the dogs. If you see Snow White, you will be able to realize the naturalness of the movements and expressions. And it´s before this one.

I'd say that the Golden Age of Disney animated Features was from Snow White (1937) to 101 Dalmatians (1961). It would also include Bambi, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. Sleeping Beauty took 6 years to animate and cost $6 million (in 1950s dollars). I'd recommend reacting to any of them that you haven't seen. Many of them eventually had animated sequels and/or live action remakes released. Basically, I don't recommend any of those. Just the originals. Several of those films use ethnic stereotypes (usually imposed on humanized animals) as comic relief. Some people are fine with that, even now. Other people scream bloody murder about it. I saw Pinocchio in theatrical release when I was a kid. The scene with the naughty boys playing pool, smoking cigars, drinking beer and talking smart like they owned the world... and what happened to them immediately after that... was one of the most traumatizing things I ever saw in a kids' movie.

I wholeheartedly agree with you there. As someone who reads up and keeps track of Disney History, 101 Dalmatians marked the end of the studio’s Golden Age era. When the Dark (or Silver) Age arrived, there were hits or misses along the way in their canon, especially after Walt had died in 1966. And honestly, none of the live-action remakes will ever hold a candle to their animated originals, so they’re nothing special. While some of them can be dark or edgy, the originals from Walt’s lifetime weren’t strangers to such. They can be dark in nature as well, especially one like Pinocchio, indeed!

My first exposure to the Pinocchio story as a kid was on a trip to Disneyland. I went on the ride that took you through the story. It has since been replaced I believe. But for about 10 seconds I was surrounded by the sounds of children crying for mom, evil laughter, and teary-eyed.. well I won’t spoil it. But long story short, I saved face for the rest of the ride, and loved Pinocchio’s redemption, but once I left the ride I started sobbing because I couldn’t get the image of that scene out of my head. I still have never watched the movie all the way through.

Bit of clarification for the opening: When the wife said "It's the one I've been admiring isn't it?" she thought it was the ribboned hat she wanted; since that's a hat box. So the puppy most likely was put there last minute. Also sleeping puppies don't use up much oxygen. Also, props for the crocodile, he did want to help. Also also, since Tony is Italian he most likely changed his name from Antonio - or at least using the Americanised nickname - to fit in better with the locals.

Lady and the Tramp was one of my favorite old Disney Classics. I even watched the remake and they kept the spaghetti kiss scene which made me cry with happy tears! Back when I used to watch Glee, I listened to the Glee version of Bella Note and I fell in love with the harmonious symphony and I still listen that song!

The dogs howling were done by The Mellomen, a singing group consisting of Thurl Ravenscroft (bass), Bill Lee (baritone), Bob Hamlin (lead tenor) and Max Smith. Thurl have been voice acting in many Disney movies from Pinocchio (as the vocal effects of Monstro the Whale) to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, as well as singing in The Mellomen, he is otherwise best known as Tony the Tiger from the Frosted Flakes/Frosties commercials which he did until he's death in 2005, and as the voice of Kirby the Vacuum Cleaner in The Brave Little Toaster trilogy. Bill Lee aside from The Mellomen was the singing voice of Roger Radcliffe in 101 Dalmatians.

The implications with Jock and Trusty offering up their homes is that Lady is already pregant (or is assumed to be). They're essentially offering to marry her in case she gets kicked out of her house.

Jim Dear and Darling weren't "cut off" due to difficulties with animation (like there's very few shots of The Prince in Snow White, this movie were at the top of their years, or rather near the top as Sleeping Beauty was consindered Old Era Disney's top before they started with the Xerox technology to cut costs) but it's the show the movie from the perspective of the dogs.

Not gonna lie…I can almost never watch this movie anymore. My dog passed at the end of 2021 and her name was lady and she was a cocker spaniel. She looked and acted EXACTLY like Lady in this movie., breed and everything. Every time this movie is brought up I think about my dog. Though it breaks my heart that I can’t watch this movie without thinking of my dog, I can say that it brings back fond memories

You both earned a subscription I love pretty much everything. You did an amazing job. I love when people do reactions to my favorite movie of all time. I can't believe there are people out there who haven't experienced this Lady and the Tramp. I mean, sure I'm not exempted from it either, well kinda. You see, I did experience Lady and the Tramp when it was new in 1955 as I was born in 2000. However, I did see the movie on a DVD my mom got for me. Rest in peace, mom, still love you. Sorry, didn't mean to get all emotional but I just had to mention my first memory of this movie. Not to mention it's a movie based on the connection between dogs and humans. I love dogs and always wanted one but I still never got one yet. But I hope one day it will happen. Another cool fact is that this movie got me into loving spaghetti and as a fun tradition whenever spaghetti is what I'm having I will watch Lady and the Tramp and Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure. That's how much Lady and the Tramp means to me. I really hope you watch the sequel and do a reaction because it would be interesting to hear your thoughts. Thank you for reading and have a good day.

Some great old disney movies are, Dumbo, Jungle Book, Snow White and the 7 dwarfs, the Aristocats, Pinoccio. There was a torch singer by the name of Peggy Lee, she sang in the style of Peg.

It's true y'know, my cousin's wife used to post cringey blog(it was the late 2000s) post of her pomeranian that she put thought bubbles on as if the dog's calling her mommy etc. Dunno what happened to it, but later they got a golden retriever that they probably treat the same. But once they had a baby the dog isn't allowed in the houae anymore. Wasting away in their driveway leashed on a cage as a makeshift doghouse until it was given away. That's why I don't trust people that identifies as pet parents, not because of their cringeyness. But because their heart can flip like a coin as soon as a real baby comes out. P. S. Cats usually fared better in baby invaded houses, probably because they required less attention than dogs.
