a clip from "Wuthering Heights"(1970) which contains the famous scene from the book when Heathcliff dashes his head against a trunk and "lifting up his eyes, howled, not like a man, but like a savage beast"(...)

Timothy Dalton is who Bronte would have chosen had she been around to see her book made into a movie. I've seen every version & still feel this is the best one. Dalton has the edge to him that was missing in the others. And the actress playing Cathy was the perfect choice. Love this -- thank you for posting this & other scenes. The music here was as much a character as the actors were. The lush scenery coupled with the harsh moors was perfect. I give copies of this movie as gifts!

I have always loved Sir Lawrence Olivier's "Heathcliff"....until I saw this movie in 1970. Up on the big screen TD completely took my breath away. His eyes are mesmerizing, piercing and mirror every emotion. This was not an "acting" performance, Timothy Dalton became Heathcliff. This love scene will forever be branded on my heart and the gorgeous musical score my Michele Legrand just transports you to another place.

This was the first movie I ever saw Timothy Dalton acting in (looking wild, intense and wolfish). Excellent sound track too. Wish they'd done the entire book--he was the perfect Heathcliff.

Oh, Timothy Dalton is very talented and VERY VERY handsome! :) and to think, he was in another Bronte sister's work later on, Charlotte Bronte's JANE EYRE as Edward Rochester; I was so jealous of Zelah Clarke any time he kissed her!

I read Wuthering Heights four times as a young teen and beyond. It was my favourite book and felt I knew these characters as much as anyone can know Cathy and Heathcliff. I have watched every version of this movie, and always come back to this one. It truly captured the mood and atmosphere that Emily Bronte wrote about - in both the setting and most importantly, the passionate emotion of it's characters. Absolutely everything about this movie was exactly as Bronte wrote it...and to this day do not understand why it is not considered the best version ever made. Everything else pales in comparison.

I'm back again! It's 14 August 2015 and I'll never forget meeting "Heathcliff" on the screen. I had not known who the actor, Timothy Dalton was. He portrayed King Philip of France in THE LION IN WINTER, Prince Rupert in CROMWELL, Lord Darnley, MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS AND WUTHERING HEIGHTS within three years? I knew his characters but not the actor. I met him first as King Philip in TLIW. I knew Richard Harris in CROMWELL and Vanessa Redgrave in MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS but not him. In 1968, Daddy and I went to see THE LION IN WINTER. Katharine Hepburn is/was my favourite actress and Sir Peter O'Toole and I had just become acquainted when he was in BECKET with Sir Richard Burton. I was at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC, when I met my "Heathcliff" on 3 September 1972 in Charlotte NC. I opened and closed the doors on the weekday and ends. WH ran for two months. It's been a one-side 43 year love affair next month. Too bad we don't know one another. Rather than a fan, I'm a connoisseur of great acting. That makes a difference. To watch him in character is like sipping Hennessy Cognac. You take a tulip rimmed wine glass, slowly swirl it and smell it's aroma then take the first sip. And now, TD is in PENNY DREADFUL. I understand it's grand. It has to be. He's in it when I work. Thanks for this clip, Lady Violet. Take care ¬ Janet Thompson Deaver

That gorgeous dark hair against the green velvet coat is striking. Add in those deep green eyes and I am surprised all the girls in the county weren't camped out at Wuthering Heights. You might enjoy The Umbrella's of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) with Catherine Deneuve, 1964. The score is by Michel Legrand also and is wonderful, even in French. This film is one of my all-time faves. I highly recommend it.

I believe that, too, but only in relation to the film. I think it's most obvious in the scene where the servant Joseph tells Heathcliff that Cathy is with child and that Edgar is still waiting to see the colour of his eyes - or something like that. This, Edgar's totally surprised reaction to the news of Cathy's pregnancy and Isabella mocking him when they are quarreling about Heathcliff("At least I give him something you've not known...")are all indications, in my opinion.

I saw WUTHERING HEIGHTS in the cinemas, opening and closing the doors for three weeks & only saw my "Heathcliff" of Emily Bronte's novel. In one paragraph, when he arrived home, her description fits him perfectly. She wrote WH for him! In the fourth week, I finally realised, I needed to know the actor's name. He does not act. He becomes the character. No one, not even Sir Laurence Olivier did it better than TD.

+Morgan le Fay Dalton is under-rated. He has never gotten his due as James Bond, and he was the only actor to actually read the books and get into the character. As for Heathcliff, this version of Wuthering Heights might not be the best - but Sir Dalton was perfect for the role. There is something just ferocious underneath his look.

Not a fan of the film adaptations, but this scene is spot on. I really liked Dalton's interpretation of the character, for the most part, especially here. There's a terrible sense of urgency and desperation you don't see in the other versions (though Olivier will always be my favorite Heathcliff

Hey---I just watched this again and realized that Linton is the same actor who played Lawrence Kirbridge in Upstairs, Downstairs. Kirbridge, a poet, married Miss Elizabeth Bellamy in about Season 2, early 1970's. I am watching U-D for at least the third time just lately.

If I ever see a Wuthering Height's movie this would be my first choice. But I really disliked the book, not because it was boring but because I couldn't stand the main characters. I really disliked Catherine and Heathcliff, so much that I couldn't finish the book.

not the full version. also, dalton was probably too `pretty . and pop starish`as heathcliff. Ken Hutchison from the 1978 BBC version was a bit old but certainly sneering and sinister enough.

Willie Finn Emily Bronte wrote the role for Timothy Dalton as did her sister, Charlotte Bronte write "Rochester" in JANE EYRE. I think he as too young to portray Gilbert Markham in THE TENANT OF WILD FELL HALL. Of course, then again, Timothy's smart in his careers moves. Cubby Broccoli wanted him to be James Bond after Sir Sean Connery left. He was definitely too young to be Bond but when he did, he was the best there could be! He was everything that Ian Fleming wrote in the characters. Read "Heathcliff" descriptions and you'll see Timothy Dalton over all others! ¬

Oh no not timothy dalton again! Him as mr rochester was bad enough! And now as heathcliff? No just no. :/ Well since he got 2 drama roles, why not have mark strong play another period drama role as well? :O Cuz im sure he could pull off heathcliff better than timothy dalton & anyone else! Like i could just imagine him as heathcliff - "A half-civilised ferocity lurked yet in the depressed brows & eyes full of black fire, but it was subdued; and his manner was even dignified: quite divested of roughness, though stern for grace" - like c'mon! Doesn't he perfectly fit that description??! Mark strong is good at playing villain roles so I'm sure he can do this complex anti-hero character justice! Plus he could totally pull off the dark hair like in Emma as mr knightley! ;)
