This video by www.TimsComputerFix.net shows you the full step by step tear down of a Asus eeepcPX netbook to gain access and replace the hard drive. This seemingly easy job can be a bit tricky. I show you exactly what to watch out for.

Thanks for this video! Some tips for others doing this: If you're careful you don't need to remove the large keyboard ribbon cable, it's tricky to reattach so I suggest not removing it. Among the 12 screws some of them have different lengths, so I recommend laying them out on a table as you remove them so you can remember which screw goes where. When removing the ribbon cables that run over the HDD, you only need to disconnect them on the right hand side and then you can hold them out of the way while removing the drive.

Awesome video! Wow, I am a thirty year veteran of the service industry and I would have had a hell of a time with this if not for your very clear tutorial, very well done. I would caution those who are not techies to be careful of those ribbon connectors, the ones that flip up. They are fragile and if you break it your screwed. Thanks for the great post.

Breathed some new life into an old but still useful and usable machine thanks. Also tested my tech skills - especially with ribbon connectors, which were entirely new to me and took a bit of careful fiddling.

Outstanding video, very clear and precise . . . coulda really screwed this up despite being a geek and PC builder (age 69). Just switched out another ASUS netbook's Windows XP for a fresh install of Windows 7 - very impressed with the results. These netbooks are what they are, i.e., not rocket ships but their long battery life makes them excellent grabs for waits at the doctor, etc.

Its a shame the computer has 1GB ram soldered with not upgrade ports, and with the IGP taking 250MB or ram for video (which cant be configured) the computer still feels slugish on certain situations due to the low ram. At least her files are much more secure due to no mechanical failure (we do backups) and with the benefit of the sdd where it can help (seek times, etc)

thx very useful. Just two add on: first two screws inside are a bit shorter while there are two marked on the plastic with M2xL6 which a bit longer. Separate them and remember for reassembling. One thing not clear to me was that you have to lift up the dark plastic of each female flat socket in order to make the flat cable released form the socket. With the exception of the first socket where you have to slide the dark plastick!

I had the same problem. Tried several suggestions and finally bought 'Apricorn SATA Wire Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit' for under $20 from Amazon and it cloned the old drive exactly before exchanging. All passwords, emails and programs came across perfectly. The only difference was that the netbook ran MUCH faster!

Very good tutorial, but the video skips around 4:36 and misses a vital bit of information! You have to remove the yellow sticker that has a warranty void warning . This exposes a 13th screw which has to be removed. A few seconds later on the video it zooms in to show the label broken. Other than that, it is very helpful. Thank you!!

Wow that sure brought back some memories. On a side note though; there are two metal strips on each side of the hdd that function as a hard-drive caddy. You need to unscrew those and replace 'em on the new ssd.
