I was in Minot this weekend! Winters are cold but the summers are worth it. Long days and really nice weather.

I remember sitting at the gas pump and seeing ice on the handle of the pump. My suv was shaking from the strong winds. It was so cold I sat there looking at the pump for 30 minutes before I could get out. My fingers felt like popsicle sticks! I hated getting gas. It was like fill up Now or suffer later with more trips lol... back to Sunny California after 2 months! I remember being outside in 60 degree weather with no sweater and my family looking at me like I was crazy. I appreciated 60 degree weather so much after that. Lol California’s will never understand COLD!

I lived in Minot for many years and if you're going to live there, you need a block heater for your engine so you can plug it in when it's turned off. Not just to minimize the time for it to heat up. Your car WILL NOT start in the morning in the coldest part of winter if you leave it overnight and don't have it plugged into a block heater. My car got so cold one night in a closed garage that the tires froze to the floor of the garage and I could hear them peel off the floor as I backed out.

I'm going to be moving to SD next year from NW Washington. It's probably tropical compared to ND but I do worry about the winters. Dying in a snowbank in my car has come to mind. Thanks for the tips. How often do you do grocery shop and should I have 1-2 weeks of provisions in case of a blizzard?

I lived in North Dakota until I was 22. LEAVING was the best thing I ever did. WHY spend 3-4 months of every year just trying to survive? When is was a kid, in the winter my dad used to pull our car with a draft horse to start it. The stories I could tell.

I am eager to know what made you move to North Dakota, I live in Tennessee and I think of moving to a cold climate because I am so tired of the unmerciful heat here, so I wonder if I can make it there. Also, if you don't mind my asking where did you live before you moved there?

Hi Sandra! thank you for your comment. I moved to ND for job opportunities; there were still plenty of them when I left. I am originally from the midwest Great Lakes area. I was used to the cold when I moved there but ND was definitely another level of cold. The summers were beautiful though, with lots of sunlight. Hope this helps!

I have a job offer in Minot, but I'm from the south. If we're lucky it will snow a day or two per year. The winter is the only scary thing about moving since I've never delt with that kinda cold before. Do you get use it?.
@danasims7513
@danasims7513 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m from the midwest originally so I am used to the snow. However, what can be really difficult is the cold and I suggest minimizing the amount of time you spend in it. Also, the summers were typically beautiful in North Dakota so this made the winters a bit more bearable. Hope this helps!

Hello! It is not a MUST, because I had a 2-wheel drive car and did well. But a 4wd can definitely come in handy when it gets very snowy. I hope this helps!

I did a search of the yellow pages for a nondenominational church but haven't found one. I've been attending a baptist church and I went to a lutheran church before that.
