The viewer said that no one knew the people I interviewed, this included the vendors from the gatherings as well from the folks that were portrayed in the hit shows like Alone and Forged in Fire etc. THIS IS THE REASON I INTERVIEW. You have footage from the masters of modern bushcraft. No future films will ever be released of this man. No more 'one on one' from him. Eventually we all must leave this earth and move on. I wanna make myself one of these in CPM Magnacut. Excellent design and concept. I also love the EVER-so-slightly backswept handle and blade profile. I move my arm straight up down the grain when I featherstick, so that straight profile is perfect. I don’t even fully understand why so many knife makers insist on the forward-bent profile.

For Mors, utility was everything. His best vids were where he dumped a bunch of stuff on the table and proceeded to go through and explain why almost all of it was crap. The best part was that he wasn’t pompous about it-he thought it was funny to see what people could be talked into buying. We’re all lucky that his vids should be around a long time. RIP.

Oh my goodness, how did I miss this video?! First off, Godspeed Mors. You influenced SO many folks. Your legacy lives on. Rod! So good to actually see you! I'm the guy who ran that private forum. I was so happy when you joined. I was bummed that Dan snagged the Skookum for that article. I tried to get it but Steve Dick said Dan already asked for it. I've used your knives many many times over the years, including the smaller carvers. They have all held up well although I'm careful about prying with the first Skookum because I got one of the early ones that was pinned a bit back from the choil. Anyway, what a blast to actually see you in this video and listen to the story behind the Skookum. You and Mors blazed a trail there. Back in the day, we were BEGGING for full tang scandi knives like the Woodlore and now everyone makes them. The Skookum, though, took it to another level! Take care!

Hello from Oklahoma! I have written down all the criteria for a good "survival " knife as described by Mr. Kochanski. I wrote down the same from others, took my knife and guess what? To my amazement it met all the parameters. Its a commercially made knife that costs around $50. I had been using this knife for about 6-8 years before. I am satisfied. Like they say its not so much the tool as it is the skill and knowledge to use said tool. Thanks for your vast contribution to this craft Mr. Kochanski!

I live only a hour from Mors home. So sad his passing. I'm disappointed I never met him but his teachings echo from the boreal forest of central Alberta to the rest of the world. From bushcraft to videos like this. Thanks for sharing. R.I.P Mors

I've been wondering where you were. Very happy to see this post. I'm a pilot and I carry a knife, around my neck, to cut seatbelts, aluminum sheet metal, plexiglass, whatever. Mine is small (made by Walter Sorrels) and I've never had to test it for those reasons. As near as I can tell Rod isn't making knives anymore? Both emails that I tried bounced. Mors book, Bushcraft, is a Christmas gift for my oldest grandson. I bought it months ago. He will love it. My goal is to get him started young. When I was in the 8th grade (61 now) I checked out a book called Bushcraft by Richard Graves and it left a lasting impression (so much so that many years later I found a copy and I still have it). I tried some of his snare sets, my friends and I built a shelter in the woods behind our house. That's what I want my grandkids to experience (not the video game bullsh*t they are experiencing now). I'm sorry to hear that Mors has passed. He will be missed but he has left a heck of legacy.

The whole bushcraft community around the world will miss you but will never forget you. Rest in peace Mors Kochanski!

Mors was a treasure to the world. I happened to receive my Skookum Bush Tool within days of his death. It is a beautiful tool, and incredible tribute to Rod Garcia and of course, to Mors Kochanski.

This is the video people have been asking for for years, all the info in one spot, I wore out that Tactical Knives issue when it came out reading the Skookum article, getting my first SBT soon after changed everything for me.

The loss of another sage elder, Mors walks with Sears and Kephart in my mind. True pioneers through doing and learning from those that came before them.

He ran a 5 day survivor course in the rockies when I was in the British Army in the 90’s, learned so much from the man who was an absolute gentleman. Still laugh about him teaching us about the mushrooms to avoid as they would give us ‘colourful dreams’ and you need a knife strong enough that you can stick in a tree and stand on it’

No one person could ever fill his shoes. It is a sad that he has passed on.

I just came back to “civilization” today and read of Mors passing. I am terribly saddened by this loss. After my uncle, Mors was my first ‘real’ self-reliance/Bushcraft instructor and mentor. I am heart-broken over this loss. 😥😭 I can see by this video that he is ill. The world is much worse sans Mors (and Larry Dean Anderson’s) presence. Had I known about the Bushcraft Symposium, I would have made the trek to see my friend, my mentor, my instructor. покойся с миром (pokoysya s mirom) = Rest In Peace, my friend.☹️😢

We lost a great one with Mors (RIP) but the legacy never dies. Now Rod Garcia mentioned this student from Holland and I think he means The Netherlands with that and not that little town in the US called Holland. It makes sense since we are used to these style of knives, the Finnish puukko style as also used by Mora in Sweden, Martiini, Helle, etc. My first Mora is over 45 years old. Of course Mors used Mora for a long time and some others that came later but where the puukko style knife was and is almost the norm here it was not well known in the US. Truth be told I will never spend a lot of money on a 'woodlore' model but I still want A Skookum before I die. I will contact Rod Garcia. But again a nice interview Jack.

Sorry but what is the point of promoting a knife that is impossible to buy!!, I have 8 Woodlores, 4 Jacklores, 4 Rob Evans, An LT Wright, A Battlehorse, An Adventure Sworn Custom, A TRC, A Chris Reeves, A Spartan plus others BUT NO Skookum!! Nor Any prospect of owning / buying one. Rod Doesnt answer Emails and apparently doesnt want orders. Joke of a knife!!!
