When you grasped it at the beginning I knew your conclusion already. When you demonstrated its abilities (very well may I say) I was envious. I have a knife that I picked up at an antique shop several years ago. Not fancy, not expensive, basic, no name, well used but still very solid, one of my first bushcraft knives. I have bought several knives since (a bad addiction budget-wise☹😔) But that knife made by who knows is awesome. I keep using it. Why? Because it is solid because I just love it and because of how it "feels" when I work with it. Why do I even bring that up to you? Well, I think I sensed that same vibe about your Skookum that I felt about my 'no name' when I begin to use it, through your video. There is just something about using a knife that 'feels' right, does the job well, and imparts a joy of use that other knives don't seem to impart even if they "are as good?" So thanks for sharing and many happy adventures with your Skookum Bushtool. And yes I am envious but also very happy that your wait was not a disappointed one.

Greetings Brother Wade! The Skookum Bush Tool design has indeed a great heritage from a great man. Over many years I have accumulated over 50 knives. I make a few knives and put a lot of thought into blade size, shape and profiles; less so to the type of steel because of the blade design is out of whack, then the latest 'supersteel' will not reach its intended potential. More recently I have focused on handle ergonomics as I believe that a custom fit handle is the making or breaking of a great knife. I recently cut off the micarta handle on an American Knife Company Forest Knife as I found it very uncomfortable to a point where the knife was not able to achieve its potential in my hand. I replaced the scales with ones I had fashioned from Alder Root and I did a lot of trial and error to get it perfect from my needs. That said, some of the more well thought out 'bushcraft' knives have decent handles, but you can only say that based on your own experiences of use in the field over sustained use. My good buddy across the valley is on the waitlist for a SBT (another 2 years to go, I think); he changes his knives more often than I change my socks...LOL! As always, stay safe my friend, all the best to you, WS

If one cares about exclusivity and wants to wait and pay for it, so be it. It seemed to perform knife jobs well. Is it any more effective than a $100 Mora Bushcraft Black? Didn’t see anything to make me think so. I used my Mora last night for the first time in ages. It normally gets left in the drawer in favour of one of my more expensive knives. I was impressed all over again by the performance and value offered by it.

This is a nice knife. It does what needs doing. So will a Mora Companion robust in stainless. You can always spend as much money as you want to feel like you have the best blade but in many cases all it proves is that a fool and their money are soon or in this case slowly parted. I'm happy if you're happy.
@Woodswalker1965
@Woodswalker1965 3 жыл бұрын
The Mora Companion is a good knife for the price, but it simply can't compete with a high end knife on many levels. A Mora is stamped out in a factory, Idon't mind paying more for a handmade item of superior quality. That s just me I guess. I'm very happy with my purchase of the Tribute knife as I am happy with the many Mora knives I own. Cheers!

? Number 1 thing you do with the knife is make fire ? The number 1 thing I do with my knife is cut up grub for meals then next I use it to cut cordage and whittle toggles and stakes in camp , the third maybe forth would be constructing or making modifications to shelters. Then playing around making feathersticks and whittling shavings for tender. The next would be maybe to baton as a last resort if I couldn't whittle a wedge , then strike a ferrous rod if I couldn't find my strikers. My knives are very valuable and I keep them in top condition for use as a knife . I have a light hatchet ,Corona saw , and a big beater Bowie knife as a camp tool . If I had to wait 6years for a knife I would tuck it in to bed next to me at night to keep it warm .

Hi! I was wondering if this is the knife you'll always be using from now on or if you'll still use other ones in certain areas. Because some exercises are rougher than others, will you be a bit careful with this knife or trust in its quality? I got the Hultafors ok4 after watching your video about it so I wouldn't have to use my father's old, nicer ones when batoning and such. Thanks for a great video and amazing content over all. Best wishes from Sweden.

That's a good question and funny you should mention the OK4. I will switch up knives, this one was long awaited so I might baby it a little bit. Someone asked me to recommend a nice inexpensive knife, I always say the OK4, better than a Mora in my humble opinion. Take care and thanks for watching 👍

Great video Wade. Lovey looking knife mate. I watched a few videos where Mors made his knives from old leaf spring from trucks. I like he blade shape and the sheath looks like a nice piece of leather. The knife looks like it handled the tasks with ease mate. Great stuff. It looks like you have dropped on with some nice weather for the trip. Have a great weekend, all the best, Mark :)

Hi Mark! Yes Mors was never really a fancy knife guy or a fancy guy at all. A knife made from a leaf spring or an old sawmill blade with a hockey stick handle would do him just fine. Anything in the hands of a master like him looked like a $1000 blade! Take care Mate, nice to touch base with you👊

Nice knife. However, I don't think it is 6 years better than my LT Wright in CPM 3V.

I guess all that matters is if it makes you happy. I myself prefer cheap knives. But if everyone had the same taste what a boring world it would be. Really lately I'm very happy with my $39 BPS adventurer knife. I really can't believe how nice a knife I got for so cheap. That said that is a very nice looking knife you got there I can see why you like it. An 3v is awesome steel. Not going to have to sharpen that one often.

Thanks for the comment, you are exactly right my friend! One of my favorite knives is a Hultafors OK4. It's reasonably priced and works wood very well. Take care!

pure fashions, each one creates his circus and then tries to invent the wheel by taking out one more of the hundreds of knives that are spinning around, what counts is the language not so much the arrow, greetings

Once again, you’ve shown your mastery of the CRAFT. Well done! I’m sure you have a long list of knives you’d like to review on your channel. Please consider adding the Joker BS9 Canadiense to the list, if it’s not already there. I’d love to hear your thoughts. www.joker.es/en/7-Products/1-Sports-Knives/48-Bushcraft-and-Survival-Knives/1296-HUNTING-AND-BUSHCRAFT-KNIFE-JOKER-BS9-CANADIENSE-STAINLESS-STEEL-SANDVIK-14C28N-MICARTA-CANVAS-HANDLE-BLADE-LENGTH-105-CM-LEATHER-SHEATH-INCLUDED.htm
