This video helps so much when your teacher first does the experiment if sunlight is needed for photosynthesis with you and then tells you to do this one on your own....

Mostly I saw high end instruments being used, then in your video I saw the microscope, very much like the one my College labs has. Why do we need to destarch the plant at the beginning when we are doing the test for starch

the experiment is to find out if the green parts indeed perform photosynthesis while the non green parts do not perform photosynthesis. To prove this, we have to first get rid of all the starch that was formed in the leaves prior to the start of the experiment. So once we remove all the starch, we begin the experiment and put the plant in sunlight and allow it to photosynthesize. At the end of the day, starch is once again formed in only the green parts, which is proved by the iodine test. Otherwise, if we didnt first remove starch, we cant prove beyond doubt that starch is formed as a result of photosynthesis in the green parts.

In fact, Destarching a plant is a routine procedure done whenever we want to perform a experiment on a plant to find out what conditions are necessary for photosynthesis to occur. Whether you want to find out if light or CO2 or any other conditions is necessary for photosynthesis to occur , we first have to destarch the plant.

The step is necessary so that the plant is not exposed to sunlight and cannot carry out photosynthesis and hence it uses all the stored starch in order to survive and then later it's kept in sunlight for carrying out photosynthesis and testing starch in the areas containing chlorophyll

@@likhitagorantla1910 This was done to ensure that the new starch was formed by photosynthesis only and was not already present in the leaf. Means just imagine, if we do the 'Starch Test' without de-starching it first then at every test we would find starch ( which was previously formed) & this thing will fool us and we would make a wrong conclusion that photosynthesis has nothing to do with the presence or absence of chrolophyll. But by de-starching it at first we are able to make a right conclusion as new starch will only be formed in the presence of chlorophyll.
