The killings being so spread out doesn't necessarily discount it being a serial killer. Israel Keyes traveled all over the country and murdered people. And the copycat theory is also a solid one because at one point, in I believe the 80s, one of the Route killers ended up being three people who were not working together, but figured out separately that they could make it look like one person. Also, as someone who has accidentally mixed one 25 MG Amitryptaline with a glass of wine, it took maybe thirty minutes for me to be blackout drunk. It reacts with alcohol VERY strongly and there's no way he would have been able to get anywhere. Everyone would have noticed him being trashed. Likely, he didn't suffer when he finally died. Who knows what he went through in captivity, but he very likely just faded into unconsciousness when he passed. I really hope he didn't suffer too much.

Maybe they are accidents maybe.. let’s play a game called “what if there is a smiley face killer(s) maybe these victims were drugged.. if the bodies were found week(s) or months after they gone missing which indicates to me they where kidnapped by the person(s) who drugged them and kept captive until they were killed by the smiley face killer(s) a week or weeks to month or more later the bodies was found after they went missing. If the smiley face killer(s) theory is true I believe their cause of death was drowning but caused by the torture method waterboarding while they were being held against their will. They were place in the water to possibly have the detectives believe it was an accident drowning. when probably in fact they were killed by waterboarding. Whacha think y’al ?

Thank you for the focus on the police cover-up. I have close family and friends who are leos and I have yet to find a department that has zero corruption. A lot depends on the leadership and what they tolerate, but a large portion are truly lazy/malicious/self-serving with their power. Then the rest might typically be decent, but they’re worn down and feel they’d lose too much or it wouldn’t change anything if they spoke out. They stay in long enough to collect retirement, or once every couple years they actually do help save someone and that carries them another year. It’s heartbreaking. The more I’ve had an inside look at the justice system the more I become a voluntaryist. Carry a gun, stay safe, and always demand a lawyer lol

I have several family members in law enforcement and can absolutely second this. Every word of it, in fact. It's a sad job; especially if you're a good person. We also happen to live in a small town, which is predominantly white, and having a tanned husband has opened my eyes so much. It's disgusting. Wish you and yours the best❤

@@og3dkooz381I hear this about mostly white towns a lot. I lived in a series of small southern towns that most people would assume to be rascist and haven't seen it, but then again they're not mostly white; the populations were pretty evenly split between white, black, and Hispanic. I'm not doubting you, just genuinely want to learn about perspectives outside my experience. Do you mind letting me know what region your town is in and what have you or your husband went through?

@cmcapps1963 @cmcapps1963 it's definitely (in our experience) the predominantly white towns; no 50/50 or even across the board. I'm native and white mixed with whitish/red skin and have 0 problems. Never had. That's good you've never seen it and I'm glad. Where we live, your skin matters JUST as much as your character. Now, I will say that the black community here isn't particularly...the nicest or most civilized 😬 but I can see how many of them act in a way that is responsive to the environment they've grown and live in. It can be a huge sh!t show really. And the Mexican community rocks. Work hard, keep to themselves, can't speak English for sh!+ and are great people. We are in Texas.

I think they died in a completely different area and was placed in the water to have the detective to assume it was a downing accident to cover up a murder By waterboarding.. that’s my theory on this what’s yours , if you have any ofc

I am a native and current resident of Muskegon County. I've only had one interaction with the MSP and the officer was very courteous but I did get a ticket. Local PD is a whole other story. My experience with them is that they are more than happy to prey on soft targets but real crime is too much work. Additionally, since Todd Geib, we've had Jeffrey Willis and his murder run. Podunk has a lot of murder on its plate. The Todd Gelb case is Sherlock Holmes worthy. Law enforcement here is not up to the task. That being said, I hope your Michigan "hate" is not playing into this story. It certainly deserves a closer look. Also then County Prosecutor, not AG, Tony Tague is pronounced "Tag". Thank-you for drawing light to this bizarre case!

When I was in high school (mid to late 90s) I stumbled across a group online that claimed to support kids that were bullied. At first it was very helpful to know other kids were tortured like me. But there were others that were tormented beyond anything I ever experienced and talked about how much they hated their bullies and wanted to see them dead. I started to feel uncomfortable so I stopped chatting with them. I didn’t even think about that group again until I watched this video. You mentioning this might be a internet group of revenge killers sent a chill down my spine when I remembered them. The scariest thing is that their icon for the group was a simple yellow happy face.

If that was some serial killer group looking for recruits or something though, look how easily you found it and here you are telling us about it _Nobody_ else has seen or said anything? Got uncomfortable and freaked out farther in than you, found out what was actually going on, and told someone? And none of the angry, formally bullied teens have screwed up one single kill? Its too open it be a secret, and the people thatd be involved wouldnt be hardened, genius killers with lightning fast reaction times. They'd be angry teens and young adults whove never done anything remotely like this, but all have a 100% success rate

@@NanaBren It was an old yahoo group. I don’t remember the name but I have been trying to since this morning. It was almost 30 years ago and like I said I hadn’t even thought about them since then until I watched this video and Aiden said the theory of an online group of revenge seekers being possible. The only reason I remember the smiley face was because it was like a friendly face happy to see me at a time no one seemed happy to see me. That is literally the only thing that really stuck with me besides the serious creep factor I started to get after this guy joined that was really angry and started to be rude and even bully the other members. He said he wasn’t a looser like the rest of us and that the guys at columbine had the right idea. I never went back after that statement.

OMG, that woulda scared me off too! The group could still be around but using another name. I was severely bullied in school because we were poor and I didn’t act like I cared. I was rich in other ways. One year, we were living in Dewitt, Ark. Because my dad was working road construction there. Anyway, my older brother and I were sent to an all black school for that year. I had never seen a black person before and I wasn’t afraid until I was attacked in the schoolyard by several girls. I learned quickly that racism existed. The teacher paddled me the first day because I couldn’t tell time yet and apparently that was the homework for the day. I believe it was to set an example to show that just because I was white, they weren’t going to show favoritism. In high school, back in my hometown, I was a pacifist and refused to fight the girls tormenting me. They would grab my arms and drag me on the ground, scratching me up and tearing my home made clothes. There were about 7-10 of them. One day they pushed me too far and something snapped inside me. I tore into the one leading them and did some damage. After that, they left me alone except for an occasional nasty remark. The girl I tore into found out years later that she had cancer. She asked to see me. I sent her a message saying that I forgave her years ago and she should forgive herself. I don’t hold grudge against those people who in their ignorance caused me pain. They are the ones who’ve got to answer for their actions. I’m 64 now. I believe that a cult is responsible for many of the smiley face drowning deaths. Someone powerful enough to shut down the state police and scrub all records and newspaper accounts. That it’s happening in multiple states just strengthens my conviction. The group scenario is the one that resonated with the odd details of Todd’s death. The person who posted that it’s also happening in the UK is also reminiscent of a group or cult.

I grew up in the Meth Mitten (before meth was a thing) and left as soon as possible over 30 years ago. I miss the north so much and I was thinking of going back to the most beautiful forests and waterways I've ever seen -- but I just can't. There is so much effed up shit going on now in that state it makes me want to cry. The hills are alive with the sound of tweakers. Such a waste. The corruption is just the cherry on top. About Todd: I've been legally medicated on the same drugs as him (at different times), self-medicated on illegal drugs, and been insidiously drugged by some asshole (twice). I think it's fair to say that I know the consequences of all three. He did not just wander into the water and drunkenly drown. It's just not a thing outside of the ocean and *always* sounds like a cover-up to me. As stupidly drunk and on drugs as I've been in my life living next to the ocean I just don't think it's possible to fall into a cold body of water and drown without help. He did sound like he was drugged on the night in question and used his last coherent moments to make a call (I had better luck than he). And it did sound like whoever fed him the final cocktail really didn't know what they were doing outside of roofie town. If he were drugged at the party it would have flushed out of his system completely by the next day, and as far as we know they didn't find anything like roofies in his system. Someone kept him alive for awhile, there is no doubt in my mind. It also sounds like this someone was not exactly a professional. Someone who had had to be at the party. In the subtropic waters where I live now in crazy ass Florida a body would decomp/get eaten so fast it would be a miracle if you found one. It's a well known fact in my area that if you stick a body in a lobster trap even the teeth will be gone in under a month (sorry lobster lovers). Can't wait to leave here either. That being said, colder freshwater is no slouch either. Granted the decomp would be slower, but it would still begin as soon as the body is no longer alive and faster in any kind of water source, unless we're talking the bottom of Lake Superior type of cold. And we're not. I'm actually embarrassed by proxy for the entire combined police force of Michigan. You just look so damned stupid right now. But don't worry, I'm not coming back.
@AngelfromGenX
@AngelfromGenX 8 ай бұрын
Cases of an upright victim in water are almost always someone who just went under only minutes to a few hours before death. It stays upright from the air in the lungs until enough decomp gasses form to force the whole torso up. ie: he was put in there shortly after death, and only hours before he was found. This is one reason drowning victims are so difficult to find the first day.

Their also happening in populated cities with skyscrapers and river that are in the citiesthat these deaths are happening in. Maybe 10-12% of these deaths are accidents. The rest is a murder covered up by a intelligent killer who I think kills his victims by waterboarding them. Then placing them in the water to have it look like an accident drowning.

Please tell me what you think about my theory. These murders are being carried out as a right of passage for individuals inducted into the militarized side of a secret society. That’s why the victims are held hostage for a while because they are practicing and honing their art. Torture, interrogation, ultimately killing, and doing it in a way that ultimately goes unsolved or ruled an accident.

I think your assessment of the Smiley Face Killers case is spot on. It feels like a group, maybe not a super organized group, but a group of people with the same ideals, much like the incel community, that grew up online and fed off each other and began to kill who they hated or envied. I think that's absolutely what it is. But you would think we would have found it by now if it were a message board or something. Maybe it started that way and went far underground after the early '00s. I don't know what else would explain it, but I'm not highly tech savvy, lol.

I think this is definitely on the right track with these deaths. I think it is more than one person that's doing this. I have no idea exactly how many people are involved, but whoever is responsible, they have to be able to get the bodies to where they are being found, which is NOT an easy thing for one person to do, especially given that these victims are being held before they are killed, and then placed wherever they are then found.

That other person saw that he called her and that he was lost in the field and he got pissed off and he found him and then he tortured him and he drugged him and then he threw him in the lake. My one catchup on this whole thing is the lack of violence. If he was seeing someone he shouldn't have, maybe someone in a relationship, you'd expect violence. If it was revenge for something, you'd expect violence. Even if he started seeing someone who was only out to punish him for something you'd expect violence. With a serial killer, I wouldn't rule out keeping someone drugged and fucking with them emotionally. As far as the investigation, it's not surprising. Small rural area, drag a bunch of urban/suburban cops out there and they're likely going to be looking to gtfo asap. I also wouldn't be surprised if you guys had something like the I5 killer. I'd expect a truck driver to have easy access to any area a body might be found, people treat them like they're invisible and they could have easy access to a variety of medications. It could even explain how they had two types of antidepressants that would never be prescribed together. Especially before like 2010 or so where they didn't think it necessary to have widespread databases to track medications. And if there are other cases like this were its seemingly the popular guy from school and they've been drugged up and dumped in a body of water, I actually would think a female serial killer. I say that because I have to think, if it is a serial killer and physical violence isn't common or doesn't happen at all, that it's someone who gets off more on the emotional abuse than is typically common for men. I had the displeasure of talking to a cop about when they found bodies in water after a few days. She explained that just rolling the body over to attempt to identify the person caused... tissue to separate. And you would still get the smell, especially once the gases caused the body to float to the top like that. It could be possible that the cocktail of drugs and alcohol made the body unappealing to insects, but you would still expect some sort of damage from a body floating around in a lake for any real period of time.

I've been on antidepressants since 2016 and currently still am, and I've been into the biochemistry of antidepressants. I'm on clomipramine and mirtazapine. Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), like amitriptyline and desipramine. TCAs are not SSRIs or SNRIs because the S stands for selective. This means that the side effects of TCAs are plenty and generally quite unpleasant, so absolutely nobody takes them to get high. Like, a TCA overdose will damage your heart and cause cardiotoxicity. Drinking alcohol on TCAs is also a bad idea, because most of the time I end up dozing off mid-sentence after a few shots. You also never mix TCAs together. You might be prescribed two antidepressants from different classes, but only after you're kinda stable on the first one. Mixing two powerful antidepressants that sedate you is typically frowned upon, but not unheard of. I'm on a really small dose of each antidepressant, and even so, I'm still asleep within an hour or two.

only logical thing is a cover up, if multiple police stations across the states "stop everything or saying there is no connection" there is a reason. I would say either a higher up official whether someone powerful or their family doing it and they try their best to cover it up.... allegedly

Dry drowning is far too rare for it to have happened in this case, and if it does happen, it happens to little kids. That a young man, regardless of his inebriated condition, could have dry drowned is a less than 1% possibility. This whole thing is so bizarre and sad, and I think the State Police know more and it is hideous that they would brush this off. So I guess what I cannot help but wonder is what is the motive? Why is this what the Michigan Staties have decided to go with?

I got some weird questions - was there a meaning behind his tattoo? I only ask that because I have friends who have similar tattoos in recovery because it symbolizes breaking free or something like that for them. Doesn't mean he was in recovery, just wondering why that specific tattoo. Was there a girlfriend in the picture? Handsome 22 year olds usually have girlfriends or recently ex-girlfriends (or boyfriends) somewhere nearby. How long would those drugs be detectable at those levels in his system? Would the levels drop after death or stay high? How many beer cans were in the boat? I know no DNA was done, but were there more than 3 or 4? It might indicate the number of people involved. Doesn't seem like the body disposal was well-planned. Stolen boat, beer cans, body left basically floating on the top - sounds like whoever did this was heavily drugged themselves. But it couldn't have been spur of the moment if they'd held onto him for almost 3 weeks. What was the reason for the time lapse? Do the cops actually know or are they just fumbling? Sounds like they probably knew part of what was going on but maybe they guessed wrong? I can't remember, did they find his phone? Sorry about the scattershot approach.

So excited to see you cover this topic. On the graffiti aspect, I know someone pretty deep into graffiti culture. I wonder what they'd think of the smiley face being a potential calling card.

I think he was alive for the majority of the time ge was missing. Whatever is being done to these guys, it's the motivating aspect of these murders. Whoever is doing this, they are really enjoying whatever is being done to these guys before they are finally killed. Not sure exactly what is being done to them, but I think it has to do with manipulation, and control of the individuals. It's mental/emotional.

When in the timeline of the smiley face killers was this incident. If it was close to the beginning the police may have covered it up to not have the story of a serial killer/killers that are roaming around the Midwest. Not saying this is what happened but may have been a reason why they were reluctant to consider this a murder. That or the person who killed him was was someone they wanted to protect.

@@TheLoreLodge I am/was 3 years older than Todd. Our older sisters were/are good friends. I heard about his disappearance through her, as she recruited me to go on the search parties. My sister was one of the other four that went across the pond. I remember talking to her after they found him, and her telling me they found him in the pond. I remember the confusion we both had. And we have not talked about it again. It wasn't until many years later, listening to William Ramsey, that I associated Todd's death to the SFK. I don't know if it is the same field the party was in, but there is an area around there that supposedly has had weird happenings in it. I have heard occult rituals and/or witches. I can not confirm anything, and I don't know what, or if, to believe it. That is all I have to offer. You did great research, and I even learned some things I didn't know before. This is probably the first time I've come across someone who has a similar theory about the smiley face to what I think. We know there are groups online, dark web or elsewhere, consisting of predators with similar fetishes, who commit crimes (on children, women, animals, there's a "fetish" for anyone [I hate having to write around YT censorship]) and then share the videos and photos in those groups. I have always thought there have to be those for murder. I am not even sure the smiley face is a coincidence, it might very well be, but could equally easily be a "signature" of the group, an additional thing that makes it exciting for them and bonds them together. Emotional bond and the feeling of "belonging" to "their tribe" is such a huge thing in those cases, they are different than solo predators who hunt on their own and won't ever tell a living soul about it. Then there's also clout, ego, validation. I don't think it's one person, but I do think there's enough to say those deaths are linked.

I had the MSP instruct me to commit a felony. Then threatened me with jail if I didn’t obey. A coworker got pulled over and used my driveway to stop. He had been drinking and blew just barely over. He told the cop he knew me and could probably stay the night. The cop. Came to my door and asked if I knew him and if he could stay? He said he wasn’t going to jail because by the time he blew again. He’d be legal. I can’t turn him away. So I say ya. The cop comes back and tells me to keep him there or he’ll come back and take me to jail. What??? He’s a grown damn man. He want to leave Im not stopping him. That kidnapping- holding someone against their will. Ect ect. And they could care LESS if your house gets robbed. “ that’s what insurance is for.” Is what we were told. In other words. We’re not looking. American Express your defense. Ok just to comment on the SSRI/Tricyclic combo. While it’s uncommon to be on both medicines it’s not impossible. There are circumstances where you can be on both, such as if you have both a mental health condition and a nerve condition and it would be more dangerous to stop taking one of them. But I agree if he wasn’t prescribed either of them then this isn’t a reasonable possibility. I am prescribed both double the “recommended dose” of Zoloft to treat OCD and a fairly high dose of Nortripyline for Peripheral Neuropathy. So as someone who is on a high dose of both an SSRI and tricyclic antidepressant like what was in Tod’s system I can say with confidence that someone could be fully conscious and aware on these medicine if they worked their way up to those doses.

For 21 days? Absolutely not. Even bodies with cinder blocks wrapped around them and thrown into deep water float up due to gases in the body that build up and bring the deceased person to the surface. It’s a moot point since Todd was not weighted down. The items you mention wouldn’t matter.

You are taking the most charitable possible reading of the Michigan state police by assuming they are not investigating because they don't care. Their inaction in the face of public pressure looks less like lazy apathy to me, and more like they are not investigating because they know who did it, and that person is protected for some reason. That is my opinion and I do not know it to be true. But it seems like an extremely reasonable interpretation of the facts given.

♤AIDEN♤ Hope that gets your attention... I was curious how long you've been doing this because the way you put in your due diligence in researching like a veteran journalist would do is awesome. So, how long have you been doing the KZfaq story telling and gathering of information from law enforcement enteties and news outlets? Where'd you get the idea to cover peculiar tellings of potentially paranormal but overall curious and tragic events? I'm not sure why my curiosity was piqued so suddenly tonight, considering I've been watching on and off for the last couple years before subscribing, but have since subscribed rather recently and been watching your content more steadily as you tell the stories very well and enthusiastically enough without being over the top, and I verily enjoy that. The jokes you open with on the production-videos that aren't livestreams are always good too and some make me actually audibly laugh.. I do hope to hear back, I really really do. Thanks, man. Hope your Christmas is as best as possible this year and you get to spend some quality time with your family.

Hey! Thank you for the respectful question :) I’ve been doing the presentation stuff for about two and a half years, but in college I studied European history and religions for a few years. Gave me a general sense of how to research, and I’ve been learning a lot as I go about the presentation and how much rigor really needs to go into something like this. As for what got me into it, I’ve just always been interested in ghost and monster stories as well as unsolved mysteries, so this just kind fit.

@@TheLoreLodgeoh holy crap, man! You replied so quickly! Thank you 😊 that.. that genuinely surprised me lol.. thanks for answering and telling me a bit of your travels in life. Sounds about perfect, the monster and ghost curiosities. I've been curious about that stuff for a long, long time as well. There's certainly more out there and more to the world we see and live in, and I feel that in my bones lol Although, I've had only limited personal experiences with what I'll just blanket under the category of "paranormal enteties", I've seen and heard (some personally) some tales and the tellers were just too sentimental about the telling. Maybe "sincere" would be a better word in this instance... either way, they were adamantly sure of what they saw and then told of. Anyways, man, thanks so much for the reply! I was so happy to have you find it a respectful question cause I almost felt like maybe I was prying a little, since, y'know, we don't know one another and I'm sure you've had your fair share of creepy dealings with strange internet folk lol, but I hope not.
