Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I`m daily looking forward to your channel, Facebook page, and website for recent news. You`re doing a great job. I have a question; we have limited time in the speaking section, and I can not remember synonym words fastly. How should I study to be familiar with the synonyms?
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources Жыл бұрын
Well, there isn't a short cut to learning synonyms. But the key thing to remember is that you should try to use basic and simple alternatives. Don't try to think of fancy replacements for words. Just use whatever easy word comes to mind.

I have a question on scoring system. Do you know why I sometimes got lower overall score even though I scored better metrics? For example, overall 23(sr 99 pf 99 ..so on) vs overall 26(sr 80 pf 80...)?
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources Жыл бұрын
Well, all the metrics count. Your score could be influenced by more than your sr and pf.

My story is crazy I am an old -timer Toefl student who watched your videos a long time ago while I was working on my TOEFL preparation since 2012. Unfortunately, my FPGEE expired in 2013. I have made several attempts during these years. My last exam was two years ago, but I have not yet achieved the required scores. but I still have hope to reach my goal:)@@Toeflresources

Speking questions are still graded from 1 to 4? If so I think using the TOEFL GO app id better as it is gives us the grade we will get on the rest?
@Toeflresources

Yes it is. But note that on the real score report you will never see a 1-4 score. You will only see 0 to 30 scores.

I’m curious that why every time you try a vocabulary diversity improved version and your grammatical accuracy goes down even though you didn’t simply change any grammatical structure in your answer. I wonder if there’s any dynamic balancing happening in that section? The whole Ai thing is still kind of skeptical to me.
@Toeflresources

I am unsure. As I've indicated before, the grammar score is a huge mystery to me. I don't know what influences it. It seems dodgy.

Today i received my trial Toefl score which i took in the official center and i got 82(21S, R/ 18L, 22R) what do u think in the real exam it would change slightly or there is a chance to get a higher score than trial exam or less ? Thanks a lot for your worthwhile endeavor, indeed u helped me significantly...

I wonder if accent plays a part in this AI grading. For example, I have a quite strong British accent, and some voice recognition algorithms can't pick it up properly.
@Toeflresources

I don't know. I guess it is worth experimenting. Perhaps I can do my very best impersonation of a British accent.....

The human raters will be different. I think they affect the score much more than the speechrater and look more for natural language production. But take Michael's advice as well. It's gonna help you a lot.

@holynadahjl I agree, and Michael's videos are really helpful indeed.
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources Жыл бұрын
That's it exactly. It is a game of inches. The test-taker needs to be sure to please both the human rater and the AI rater. Both, at the same time. This video is mostly for the people that absolutely need 26+ in the speaking section. If you don't have a particular speaking target it is probably fine if you forget about the AI and just accept a margin of error in your score.

Hmmm the point of not having to be rich isn’t so accurate, all the good preparation websites require money, and if you live outside the US it’s pretty expensive, even in the US, for me as a student It’s a financial burden

Well, I uploaded this video like a year ago so I'm not totally sure what I said. But a few things are worth mentioning: 1. It is cheaper than before to prep for tests due to AI tools. 2. One of the best online TOEFL prep sites - GREGMAT - costs like $8.

And that's what we have to keep in mind. The AI is consistent in the way it grades answers (of course). So we have to make sure we don't do "the bad things." I got a ton of sh--t for suggesting there are "secrets" students should know. But there ya go. The grammar scores are something to explore in a further video (if I can ever figure out what triggers it).
