Fantastic video! I bought that same mower 12 years ago and will install my second belt tomorrow, since it's too late tonight. I gave up on the first belt a few years ago, and let the dealer install it for me. But, with your video now I'm sure I can handle the project. Already have the new belt. I never knew the deck lift pedal needs to be moved back and locked and also didn't know the back pulley can be moved to create slack. Thanks a bunch for your video!

Great video. I was too lazy to take a minute to turn one of the wheels of the deck. Today I turned one wheel, and it made a huge difference - it's worth it to take a minute and turn the deck wheels to assist taking the deck on and off. It really is problematic.

Also, loosen the nut on the J-Bolts just a bit and pull the pin out, turn it so it rests against the yellow cowling, leaving the hole exposed. Then line the control arm up on the hole, and turn the Jay Bolt pin so it locks into the pull arm. It saves a lot of time. :-)

Great Job, Really Good explanations. I have the X380, a Built to last John Deere. I use the Best belts Available also and that means John Deere, I tried a Cheaper one in I think 2021 when JD was on strike or something and could not find my deck belt and it didn't last 1 Season. One word of advice, change wobbling Pulleys or loud bearings when spinning, they will freeze and smoke your belt too. And the Spring in the rear needs replace . You can spray a little lube on that bracket to make the parts rotate a lot easier.

I've had this X320 48" for 13 years. I have never found it easy to pull the J-bolts, or to get both holes lined up to put them back into the lift levers. Nice to see someone else have a little trouble doing it. I don't have the strength to pull the bolts by hand. Twice a year I dread having to sharpen the blades and service the deck! Years ago I watched a You Tube vid from a small young lady at a John Deere dealer remove and install the deck in about 7 minutes (brand new, of course). To remove the deck it takes me 45 minutes to pull the J-bolts using the handle of a small adjustable wrench as a pry bar (even backed off the tension nuts a bit). Then, to re-install the deck, another 45 to get the second J-bolt lined up with the lift bar. I have to use a pry bar to jiggle the deck until it lines up.

I agree 100% Those j bolts are a real pain!!! I am finally selling mine, It still runs great but just tired of taking the deck off. I got the new EGO zero turn battery powered mower with no BELTS to change ever!!!!
@user-vt7uz9fs7e
@user-vt7uz9fs7e 11 ай бұрын
I wasn't aware of electric riding mowers, so I looked them up on You Tube. The EGO looks ideal for flat lawns. Unfortunately my 11/2 acres of lawn is everything but flat. And, between the moles, ants and crabgrass it's getting rougher every year. The EGO hydraulic seat would be ideal to smooth out the bumps (just what I need). Simple deck removal is great! The draw backs of no variable speed, no lift pedal to raise deck when going up and over some hills and some tree roots (to avoid scalping or hitting roots) And I have to mow across the bottoms of two hills (I have a 40 pound weight hanging on the implement bar to keep from tipping over, and I still prepare to jump off the side if I have to :)). Best of luck with your EGO. I'll have to struggle with this John Deere.@@JustADad
