I thank you for a straight forward review on the Tomtom 550 rider. I'm looking for a gps at the moment, and this one seems to be perfect for my needs, just got the GK 350 motorcycle and I'm plenty excited! I'll have to re-see your video a few times to soak up the information of course lol. Seems extensive actually. But I imagine that with time it should all come together, I'm hoping. I'm in Spain at the moment this little device should come in handy as I really dislike the feeling of being lost, especially on a motorbike!! Will also subscribe to see future content. What I like about the Tomtom rider 550 is its simple all I need, the Garmin have to mucho info. I don’t need complex and I don’t need to wade through lots of info I can get myself. Also the speed cams downloads you never need to pay for

One of the better reviews I have seen and nice to see it on a ride. What's the glare like in bright sunshine? I have an older tomtom and can be a real pig at times for glare.

I love the 550 and think its brilliant. I have android which connects no issues, although sometimes I don't get traffic updates (calls and text messages still show). I listen to mine via Bluetooth headset, but can't hear directions and music at the same time - to do with the limitations of the headset not the 550.

Interesting that you use it in portrait mode. I use landscape because i think it shows upcoming curves better.

Just a quick tip for iPhone connectivity. I have a Tomtom for my car and overcame the iPhone connectivity issue buy turning on my WiFi hotspot and connecting the Tomtom via WiFi. Works every time and doesn’t randomly drop. I haven’t got one for my bike yet but would be interested to know if it works for the Rider 550 too

I’ve just had a big argument with a well known youtuber for telling us what a fantastic item this was but truth is the item was crap and very expensive for what it was!👎🤬🤬😡 And I told him so! He said I was being bitter!! But I was giving him my opinion but he didn’t want to know 🤷‍♂️ But because he was given it I suppose he felt he had to give a false review to appease his supplier in case they sent more stuff??🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I’ve seen your Lake District vids..very enjoyable 👌👍 All the best to you, I will look forward to the next edition 👍

I'm still not convinced about dedicated motorcycle sat navs to the point where I'd spend £400+ for one. I have Google Maps with live traffic on my phone using a shockproof holder and waterproof cover. It does a great job even when abroad.

I have a question. If I have seen a recommended ride online that I wanted to do. Can it be downloaded to the sat nav? if not how would you go about putting in the route with all the stops at cafes for a rest that are part of the route. Thanks

Connectivity with my Android is hit or miss. Some of the speed limits are either out of date, you can send a correction via the satnav and some speed limits are just plain wrong. One bug bear is the phone locking and not being able to use google assistant vis the satnav.

I use the same one. I don’t connect to my phone, but I do connect it to my headset. Sometimes I forget, and an Irish woman scares the crap out of me as I approach a junction 😮

Cool video. Thanks. I have a GS Adventure, so I bought the Nav6 with it from new. The first one lasted 3 years. Died so BMW gave me a new one because they are really cool guys in Bristol. However, that died too. It's a common problem apparently. It's pretty crap anyway. They said I have to pay half for a new one this time, so I'm looking at TomTom. I want the latest, which I believe the Rider 550 is. I can't find any videos of anybody fitting one on a GS. I like the sound of it. I don't want a sat nav to talk in my helmet though because I don't want it interrupting my life. I just look at the screen of it. I won't be able to use the BMW wheel to control the satnav, but I never did anyway. I have some questions. If I connect my phone, Galaxy S22 Ultra, will I be able to get live trafic info without having to connect it to my Sena? I guess I will. Do you still have yours now? 2 years on & what do you think of it now?

Numbers too small to read while riding. Doesn't have an altimeter. Ok for finding a place. Compass icon is super tiny compared to Garmin. Buy a Garmin Zumo 396 for half the price for adv riding.

TomTom Rider 550 or the Garmin Zumo XT?

Try to record a route (ride) and transfer it to a PC.. Frikkin nightmare! (in fact impossible I've been trying for 5 days now with no success). I could have bought a Satnav for a £100 that would take me from A to B. No simple file structure for transferring my own routes. To do anything I'm supposed to keep putting different memory cards in and out. Saying that! I haven’t found one that the Rider 550 recognises yet. Tried 4 so far. Can not express how disappointed and angry I am..

The routing on these is horrifying. I hate mine, it always takes me way the hell out of my way no matter what. I set it to go straight to a destination and it always wants me to go the moon and back first. I had several people try to make a route with this piece of junk and no one could do it. Then they did the same thing with my Garmin and they all made the route in less than 2 minutes. Guys,,, Leave this one on the shelf. If you get one remember you can only blame yourself for such a poor choice. I only use it for tracking because that is all it is good for and it sucks at that too because you have place and replace the chip every time you want to get tracks off of the piece of junk. And no map for pc, tom-tom makes you sign in to use your map to make routes which is worse then the Rider 550 junk. You have been warned, heed it and you will be much happier.
