I have the Typhur Sync, and I have found the predictions it makes to be pretty accurate. This allows me to get sides together at the right time so it all ends up on the table together. It was the surprise feature that I really like, that I wasn't expecting when I bought it.

That’s great. When I did a side by side, granted the probes where on slightly different locations, I found the MEATER was the first to predict followed by Typhur and then combustions inc. I found the combustion inc to be the most accurate and the Typhur and MEATER to be almost identical.

Hands down the best most informative review of the thermometers; thanks for posting this. I ordered the Combustion Inc. one as I’m quite the nerd who wants to explore and experiment with cooking different types of meat. I’ll come back here and share my experience when I receive and use it. Cheers

Thank for your reviews and comparisons. I rarely leave comments but i do want to say thank you for your structured reviews. Personally it was a toss up between the Typhur and the M2+, and I would have gone with Typhur if not for the fact that their app isn’t supported in Singapore on the AppStore. I’m guessing that most of your audience are in the US, but it might be a good PSA for anyone outside the country to check if the app is supported in their local country before buying it. I decided on the M2+ in the end - I love most things about it, except that I would really like 2 probes instead of just 1. Anyway thank you again for such awesome videos!

Thanks for the great feedback and PSA. I didn’t know that about the app support. I’m glad you’re enjoying your m2+. I’m sure MEATER will update the block soon to include the new design. Happy cooking!

Found the Combustion with display last night for $159 and was ready to pull the trigger . . . only to see your video this morning to learn that Meater stepped up with the 2 plus and a completely new to me Typhur (also at $159). I don't really cook thinner cuts of meat, so I believe the Typhur is probably the best deal at this point. Thanks for the video. PS - I really wish Fireboard would do a wireless - I love their wired probe/fan controlling set up.

Very good video and on point! I love the idea of wireless probes and monitoring from miles away. I have a full size Nu-Vu smoker cook hold and I'm concerned with connectivity through the double wall cabinet. I currently use a Tappecue but I'm really over the wired probe tangle. The Typhur Sync has a rock-solid connection between the probes and the base, plus the wifi -- which means that connection issues are a thing of the past. Add the fact that it has two probes, and I think there is a very CLEAR winner in this contest.

Which thermometer has the best alert system for when the meat reaches the designated temperature? That has been the biggest challenge for me is to find an app that is actually able to display some sort of alarm or alert if your phone is off. 18:58 Also a question on the typhus sync, does the base have an alarm built into it that goes off when it reaches the designated temperature?

Great review, I'm inclined towards the Combustion Inc as an engineer, but the lack of wi-fi support (they say it's coming, but they've moved the date a few times) gives me pause. I'll probably give it a week or two, but if that is still a pipe dream I'm going to buy the meater 2 plus

The Typhur sync is clearly a winner. Yes, it is a LITTLE thicker, but you forgot to mention its probes can run up to 50HRS fully charged! It is 5.4 Bluetooth while meater 2 plus is 5.2.. Combustion inc handle feels cheap being only ceramic and I would not dare to sear with it and the display has to be by the grill, mine looses connection if I take it in-house.

For that reason you have the booster, which you can leave next to the grill, the you can take the Display inside 😉 And there should be comming also the Wifi update of the app, so that would also help with connection. Searing with the combustion is also not really a problem for me - for one, you don't need a ripping hot grill/pan to get a nice sear, but even if you do, as long as you flip it every 30secondy, I didn't got over the temp limit..

According to the manufacturer, the Meater 2 Pro is submersible, and suitable for use in sous vide cooking. Do you know if the other two are similarly suitable for under-water use, and able to handle a vacuum when sealed into a sous vide bag? I'm also curious about suitability for use in a pressure cooker, though who knows if the signal could get out. The meater 2 folks say they haven't tested for that. I'd think the temperature should be no problem (wouldn't get above 250°F) but who knows about the pressure.
@tomwadek
@tomwadek 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't have that answer for you. A pressure cooker would introduce a lot of stress to the internal components. I would advise against it. As far as sous vide, my gut tells me it should be fine. Other brands like the Meatstick 4x I believe can be used for sous vide. Cheers!

The multi-sensors seem perfect for proteins that cook at different rates ... like salmon or chicken that's really thick in the middle, or a ribeye with a huge cap/deckle, or your beef wellington. But the sensors in the M2+ and Typhur seem to be all jammed together. Combustion seems like the only device that'll handle the beef wellington ... at all. The MeatStick 4X sensors are spread out, but the 6mm probe (vs 4.8 Combustion) seems way too big for a salmon. MeatStick's Chef 4X seems nicely spread out, and the probe is a bit thinner 5.5mm, but it's really short. Do you think the Combustion is the only choice for something like salmon or chicken? Or is the Chef 4X a legitimate alternative?

Hard to say. Depends on what you are cooking and the feature that are most important to you. The MEATER has a 1000F limit for the ambient temp that is useful for searing. It’s also thinner. The Typhur is an all in one 2 probe wifi package but thicker.

All three are crazy expansive, these thermometers are designed for the Master Chefs or for people who have the money for it, I use the Inkbird besides its price which is way cheaper the probes are thin and small enough to accommodate thinner cuts or smaller and delicate meats like Salmon fillets I can guarantee you those probes will destroy the Salmon Meat at an instant

You should not need an electronic device to cook a 3/4” steak. You can cook 3” tomahawks perfectly without a wireless probe. Wireless can be useful for pork butt or other larger cuts of meat, but I’m not sticking a 3/8’ probe into a 3/4” steak (which honestly is a breakfast steak).
