in Peekabo boxing don't have back step it's true. But even don't need to step back because You need to get close to your opponent because in Peekabo style You have just short powerfull punches. If a Peekabo fighter get far from you He can't hit you. And if you move your all body and head fast and you go to forward to left and to right your opponent can't hit you , because he doesn't see you well. But need to practice and understand the the style of cours.

I think the two best boxing stances are the American orthodox stance and the Russian high guard stance personally I’m a little biased to the American orthodox stance because of the Russian version your high up by your face you set up the job job punched the American orthodox stance is more set up to be Taylor made for defense encounter attacks which is kind of more my style greetings my man from the TMT what do you prefer do you prefer the American style or the Russian style??

That last aspect is so important: Most people focus too much on stances first. Good boxing is not shaped by the stance, but good boxing shapes the stance. Learning what works and what the individual strengths one has, will shape how one approaches the opponent, and that will naturally lead to improvement, if one analyzes their own mistakes. No one needs a stance until they got the basics down: you need solid footwork and punches, clean movement and a working flowchart. And the traditional stance forces one to learn the fundamentals. No stance in the world fixes sloppy boxing. When your basic boxing has gotten good, you can use stances to pronounce your individual strengths and compensate your weaknesses.

Yep.Keep working on the bag and eventually your correct stance will naturally happen after awhile. What helps me when I lay off and trying to get back in shape is adjust my stance for my right cross. When I do this my stance is already set for my jab, hook, overhand and uppercut.

That sht he said at the end of the video was 100% correct and I’ve completely agree with him. I’ve never not once seen or heard a boxing coach say that but it’s always how I felt about it. I always felt when someone is learning for the first time always start out with the textbook traditional basics first. After that you’ll be so much more fluid and sooner or later you can try other styles out to see what works for you if you want without picking up very bad habits that you will have to unlearn if you were to start off with them. Look at it this way. All basketball players learn textbook basic basketball fundamentals before there personality ends up being their full game. People like Allen Iverson didn’t start out like the way he was, he started out with the basic fundamentals first.

the basic stance is also pretty flexible. you can square it up to infight and brawl(mid-range fight, can also boxer-punch aswell) then sideways the stance to outbox and counterpunch then the normal one who can fit into anything, you just need tactics and big brain to back up the lack of pros it has.

Note: i do kick boxing so this effects my stance alot. But i like to put my left hand at my cheek and my right out. So my right jabs them and i can cambo them. And if they do attack I always have my left hand there to wait for my right to retract. So the kicks help with keeping them at distance and counters part of cambos etc. so yea thats my take. (Dont take it to serious my pfp is a roblox character lol) regardless i do go to a kickboxing gym and it works well for me so have fun thats my take

The best guard of the boxer is the one that best suits each style, however the guard that Salvador Sanchez or Julio Cesar Chávez used are one of the best guards for any boxer, since they allow you to put pressure and attack. defend the most vital parts of the body as this is very important, especially if you are new.

I like boxing although the only real way for me to train is through vr. The opponents suck, but it gives me an opportunity to practice stuff on something that punches back and guards. I ended up with a normal guard but with a slightly more sideways stance but my right arm a bit lower and further back to prime it for that right hook or move it somewhere to parry. I primarily do fencing as a sport so I don’t know if that would have anything to do with it. Anyway, is that stance valid?

Edit: I 100% agree with Tony. The type of stance you use depends on your fighting style. All beginners should use the traditional stance as recommended at the end of the vid. Its the OG for a reason. I use a combination of a high guard and a long guard for my Boxing stance, that's because I predominantly fight on the outside. The long guard helps me to gauge if I am in striking range, I can fire off quick jabs and I can feint. The high guard is used if my opponent closes the gap, if I get backed into a corner, my hands are already there to block and parry incoming punches or I can get into a clinch.

There is conflicting information about how wide a boxing stance should be, depending on who you ask. Initially my stance was wide (I felt like I could dart in and out better like that), but I got converted by a coach (a hall of famer pro) to stand with my legs shoulder width apart in the traditional stance. After some time in the shoulder width I felt my hands were faster, but I still felt like I could not move as quickly. In this video Tony's traditional stance is wider than shoulder width which is what originally felt more natural to me. I feel like the more narrow stance was more popular back in the 70s.

Is this a gym sparring situation? Personally, I'd try to move a lot and counter him as much as possible and also try and get on the inside where it negates a lot of his advantages. Sounds difficult, I'd also try not to spar with him often as well! It's all good experience though, as long as he's not trying to hurt you.

@@OffGridMadMan cant really call it a gym tho, its quite a culture in here to spar bareknuckle in places like backyards, alleys, hallways. Dangerous shit m8. These punks don't have the balls to come up to the gym and fight properly.

I dont think we can criticize the stance of GOATs. I think that if it works (hit and not get hit), and it works for you (you are confortable with it), that is the best stance

traditional stance sets the foundation for all others whether it's orthodox or southpaw. What is your take on training in both orthodox AND southpaw to give some variety and have something to switch to in order to throw off your opponent. If i remember correctly there aren't a lot of southpaw fighters so there may not be a lot of fighters who are used to fighting against a southpaw opponent.

i understand your point with the philly shell, but once you master it like floyd did, it’s a really good stance. Once you combine shoulder rolling with footwork and timing, it’s really hard to fight against, that’s why floyd is 50-0

Man I use a stance between the second and the third, just call it a mixture stance 💀

I feel a lot more comfortable in a philly shell rather than a traditional boxing stance. A traditional boxing stance feels very unnatural for me. Im also somewhat ambidextrous, for the most part I’m right handed but I feel better in a southpaw stance. Do you think i should just get used to a traditional orthodox stance , or build on what I feel most comfortable in? I’ve got great reactions and depth perception already, I’ve also got an above average reach for my height if that makes any difference. Would love to hear some opinions 🥊

Floyd didn't always box in the Philly shell. You can see him switch to a high guard in some fights. So it makes sense to develop various stances so you can switch depending on the situation.

From what you say, I think you sound blessed and should try and master as many as possible. To be able to fight southpaw as a righty is great. With a long reach, maybe try out a long guard? I love peekaboo, especially once you're in the pocket, it can be devastating. But I'm a shorty! All the best mate 👍
