My grandad is a photographer, and he captured a picture of a lightning strike almost colliding with a rainbow. He also woke up at 4:00am and went outside during a thunderstorm to take a picture of lightning hitting a building nearby, and setting it on fire.

I love watching lightning videos but when there's an actual thunderstorm i go and cower in the laundry room..

I love lightnings. Whenever a thunderstorm hits us, I always gaze on the beautiful lightning strikes in the sky.

Many years ago I was driving home after midnight during a storm. At one point I was on a straight section of road about 2 km long and whenever there was a lightning strike it was so bright it lit up the area so well that I could see the end of the 2 km straight section. The lightning strikes made it look like a heavily overcast day - in the middle of the night.

What a fantastic compilation of amazing captures! I just recently began watching lightening strike videos hoping to see what I happened to see recently. While watching the storm from my house, I witnessed a strike that I can only describe as a pillar of fire. It was a huge wide and high orange and red shape. I have never seen such a thing in my tender life!

Awesome video Pecos Hank! Thanks for creating and explaining the differences between the spectular lightning strikes that was captured on video. On May 31st, 2022 I was riding my bike and I had my GoPro going. I captured what looks to be the birth of a Tornado in Timewarp mode but, I don't know if it ever formed fully. I didn't even notice it when I was riding there. My ride went from Clear Blue Skies to riding for my life and try to get home. In my 2nd clip, I am riding showing off the progress of a new upcoming part of our bike trail here in Palm Harbor, Fl when my camera looks like it's capture another tornado starting up on my right and again, I am not aware of it. Tornados are not common here but, lightning surely is. Tampa Florida is the Lightning Capital of the World from what I am told. I am still filming my bike ride and I come from behind a wall and right as I was about to mount my bike and ride it in the bike lane on the side of the road, the wind picks up big time and the orange plastic construction barrels starts with one rocketing and hitting a pickup truck before it goes rocketing across the road. My bike is trying to fly out of my hands so, I get down low to try to avoid the wind and I am looking around thinking that I am going to see a tornado but, I don't but, it sure felt like one was coming for me. I think one tried to form on top of me but, never touched ground. It came from the right where I thought my camera captured the glimpse of one starting up. Once the wind calmed down some, I think for moment to go get the barrels out of the road but, then I think again and say forget that. It's not worth my life to go get the barrels and I start running for my life instead. I am still asking myself questions 'til this day about what happened that day. Maybe you can help me with what is a lightning question. I truly thought I saw a bolt of lightning go upwards at the other crosswalk across about 6 lanes of road. My GoPro 8 captures an explosion on a nearby cement camera pole in front of me but, it's not where I thought I saw the lightning strike. My question is: Is it possible for lightning to strike within 100 yards and not hear a boom? I thought I heard a boom but, it's not coming out on my GoPro camera video. My camera only captures the sound of the explosion on the pole. I thought it was a transformer at the time but, nothing but, wire is there. What you can't see in the video is the street lights power up for a moment for a split second after the explosion on the pole. I went back to the scene later and there was no device in the middle of that camera pole where my camera captures the explosion. It's just wire and I didn't see any damage. I went to the other crosswalk and I didn't see any burn marks where I thought I saw the lightning strike but, I did see an access panel to the wiring for the traffic lights in the ground. Somebody asked me on KZfaq why they didn't hear a boom so, I am trying to do research to find out if lightning sometimes doesn't have a boom. Can you tell me if it's possible for lightning not to have thunder accompanied with it please?

People in my class often come to me when weather is kinda sketch, because I’m looking at radar 24/7 it’s seems like. I have learned certain types of clouds and have learned what a tornado looks like on radar and many other things. I often teach my family about some of this stuff. Thanks for making these videos and inspiring me!

After a chat about the science (which is tough for a toddler!) and watching your videos he has asked me loads of questions about the weather (some of which I could even answer) and is desperate to see another storm! 3:27 I love how when the lighting strikes, you can see everything for a split second

I was once driving by the Saint-Laurence river near Quebec city, Canada during a lightning storm. It was spectacular. I also saw lightning over Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. There is a phenomenon called El Relampago del catatumbo. Where you can see endless lightning storms. I saw it on land and from a plane. Just amazing

I am fascinated by those positive charged bolts. Their thunder is soul shattering, and the peal lasts forever as you can hear the entire rolling length of the streamer that started out past Venus.

I always love thunder storms, so I usually watch from the windows. The electrical breakers (I think they are called) usually switch off during lightning strikes. I don't know what the lightning is hitting, but it almost always happens, so I spend the time watching until it's over. On one particularly intense night, all the pictures were shaking on the walls with every hit. I opened the front door to get a better view, and a bolt hit just outside the driveway - and WOW was it loud! It lit the night up like it was day. My heart was pounding so shocked I was! :D

Heard my first single Positive strike last night here in the Seattle area. I've never heard anything like it, it sounded incredibly powerful.

Astounding & beautiful footage! After moving to Florida right on the edge of "Lightning Alley", I found a deep fascination and respect for the lightning generated by our frequent summer thunderstorms. After one particularly large and active storm a few summers ago, I noticed that as the storm cell collapsed, there were several intensely bright flashes of lightning. At first I thought they must have been really close, but there was no immediate thunder. Then about 30 seconds later, a deep, powerful rumble shook the house around us. I did some research online and discovered this was the elusive positive lightning. Both beautiful and deadly. Thanks for sharing.

We have no tornadoes here (mid europe), but when is bigger thunderstorm, then is pretty dangerous go outside house. I experienced when lighting hit pole, 10 meters from me (i was inside house but still, loud as Michael Bays explosion) . And as small child i heard ball lighting, didnt saw it only results (melted glass)

Woah...I can't believe that lightning bolt at the end moved. Like, it moved! That is crazy!

Great shots. I just uploaded a video from a Northern Calif lightning storm we had last night. It had all the kinds you listed on your top ten I'm pretty sure. It streaked miles across the sky before seeking earth. One of them looped on its way down like I believe your number 8 or 9 did. There was spider strikes. One bolt set off others. At one point two bolts shot sideways across the sky, one above the other, and then met up with yet a third bolt and completed a circle of light I hadn't seen before. This was a freak storm for this area and I had only my iPhone 6, taking video at 240fps, a tripod, and crossed fingers. All the activity was miles away so safety was not a concern. At one point the rain became too much and I shot a few through the bedroom window, which kind of ruined the shot due to the screen. Take a look and tell me what you think.
