Don’t care much for the other titles mentioned here especially Persona. In my opinion, the Persona games are utter garbage.

@ifrit19373 жыл бұрын
Ironically the only reason i got into jrpgs was because i was into reading to begin with. I used to never play them at all, and likely would've stopped playing games completely, until my bro convinced me to pick up Tales of Symphonia at the local Hollywood Video (while video rental stores were a thing) and at first i was hesitant because i also had that (in hindsight stupid) belief that jrpgs/anime style looked too childish but decided to give it a try in the end and Symphonia easily became my favorite game of all time. As for why: it was easily the best story i ever played in a game up to that point (before that i mainly played Nintendo games or shooters and the only jrpg i honestly played at the time was Pokemon which was, and still is, lackluster when it comes to story) and the opinion i had of the game was basically: "it felt like i was playing a book" and since i loved reading i instantly got into the genre. Also helped that Smash Bros was one of my favorite games at the time and Tales combat (at the time anyway, before they added arte trees) was very similar in button inputs for artes to Smash's specials. But ya Trails takes the whole book feeling to a whole other level compared to the majority of jrpgs out there with it's world building and development...hell the fact they actually change npc dialogue and even have npc dialogue from past games become relevant in later games (some starting as far back as Sky 1 and being referenced by a random npc in CS2) showing a degree of world building almost no other dev team matches (and i know how many times they change npc dialogue cause i go out of my way to go back to each and every npc in the game every time the story progresses/the time of the in game day changes from say morning to afternoon or night to see how the dialogue changes...some even change after doing side quests to reflect dialogue from the side quest as well...all of this adds so much more play time than what most people would normally see...in CS3 i beat the game in 175 hours or so and of those 175 hours i'd say about 50 to 60 of them are just from me talking to npcs, about 5 to 10 for leaving the game on while doing something else for a few minutes multiple times during my playthrough and then the rest from the actual story, reading books, and side quests. Today alone i played about 5 to 6 hours and of that time i'd say about 3 hours were just from me walking around the city i'm in talking to every single npc and then finishing up the one side quest for this part lol).

valkyria 4 and 1 occur at the same time in different countries, so much so that at one point in the game the welkin battalion is mentioned like a recent victory.

I have almost bought that .Hack game several times over the last year or so because I would always see it used at Gamestop for like 20-25 dollars. I watched this video yesterday and it reminded me of it and I realized I don't see it on store shelves anymore. I looked it up on Amazon and they are selling new copies for like 17 bucks. I almost ordered it but put it off. Luckily I was at a Walmart tonight and there was randomly one copy of it in their game case, but not only that, it was on clearance for only 9 bucks! Obviously, I finally bit the bullet and purchased it.

Also, it was the only game on this list I didn't already own either on Switch or PS4.

My favorites 1. Persona 5 2. Yakuza 0 3. Yakuza 6 4. Valkyria Chronicles 4 5. Trails of Cold Steel 3. Haven't played Yakuza 7 (Like a Dragon), Cold Steel 4, and Nier Automata and Dragon Quest 11 yet. I noticed you are definitely not a Squaresoft guy, Eric. :)

Fames that i have from this list: 1) Valkyria 4 (well on the switch, i wanted it on the ps4, but as i was quarantined in the army and had my switch... you get what happened) 2) 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim (My game of the year 2020) 3) Nier Automata 4) Persona 5 5) Dragon Quest IX (...i should honestly finish it) 6) Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana (was really REALLY happy you added this into the list) Huh maybe i have better taste in games then i thought. I don't have that many ps4 games (i think) so to learn that the games i buy on the spot (no research involved), are considered to be top games on the console fills me with hope.

Hello, do you know a game just like all of these but one of the character is a girl inside a machine that shoots bullets/missiles. During combat, you can switch characters. They are 5, swordsman, tank, healer, archer and the machine (the one I’m talking about). I forgot the name, I’ve been looking for it for years. I was playing it with my psp back then so I think the game is around when Alissa from Tekken first came out? Anyone have idea what game is it?

1.) Cold Steel 3 + Cold Steel 4 (Not without CS1+CS2 & Sky1-3 and Crossbell Zero+AO prior) 2.) Dragon Quest 11 (not played S yet) 3.) Persona 5/Royal 4.) FF7R-Part 1 5.) YsVIII: Lacrimosa of Dana 6.) Tokyo Xanadu EX+ (Earliest Version may have come out on PS Vita prior) 7.) Tales of Berseria That's about it, there's a good many others which I have in my backlog, but haven't played yet, like 13 Sentinels, Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 4, Code Vein, many PS1 Final Fantasy Remasters (FF5, FF6 omitted sigh), and more. So there's still a batch of Great JRPG's to play prior to going into Hajimari No Kiseki & the next wave of FF16, Dragon Quest: Dai, Granblue Relink, Tales of Arise & the upcoming wave coming within the Next 2 Years🥳

must have been tough, while maybe not the best, the ps4 is an amazing system for rpgs, both indie and mainstream. 75%, at least, of my ps4 library is rpgs, and i should know, my folders are arranged by genre and the rpg tag is at least double of all the others, and even a few other games have rpg elements like symphony of the night.

i really need to finish episode 2 so i can play 3 and 4... i beat 1 and then immediately downloaded and played 2, but playing 1.5 of them back to back was a little too much so i had to take a break then again, i also binged the entire atelier dusk trilogy, so go figure

Yakuza series can also categorize as JRPG. It has random battle, level up, skills tree, items & equipment, NPC & side quest, mini games like a ton of them, the setting is in Japan, and it is made by Japanese devs. Even the last title gone completely JRPG with turn based battle. There’s also Bloodborne or Souls series which i’m not sure why people didn’t categorize it as JRPG just because it’s not using anime style or turn based battle...

13 sentinels needs more love worldwide. It's a story telling master class in science fiction fucking beautiful game. I'm really just here cause I wanted to see Nier Automata and 13 Sentinels. I expected Nier...of course.. fuck it's my favourite game. But I'm stoked to see 13 Sentinels. Great job man!
