Great list! Brimstone was a huge highlight for my year as well. Also really liked Kinfire Chronicles, Arkeis, Earthborne Rangers and the two new releases for Sleeping Gods. My daughter's favorite was Keep the Heroes Out!

personally i think the pandemic-ish crisis board in Voidfall adds a fantastic mechanic to the game and how it uses a variable setup makes it superior to the competitive mode. Voidfall is amazing.

From your list I've been greatly enjoying Legacy of Yu (almost done with my second campaign playthrough), and Shadows of Brimstone, which I discovered earlier this year. I have nearly the entire Forbidden Fortress collection now, and will be picking up the 30s Mummy set when the late pledge opens up eventually. I love how modular the system is, allowing me to skip the sets that don't interest me, and to choose the kind of adventure I'm looking for at any given time. However, you're right, it can be very expensive. I've also been enjoying Darwin's Journey, First in Flight, To he White Castle, and Terrorscape from this year, but so much delivered in the last 3 months that I haven't touched a bunch of them yet. Thanks past me!

Sky Teams is an amazing 2-player game. One of the best games of the year IMO. There are no official solo rules but I've tried a few varients.

Yes, Shadows of Brimstone is the game that got me interested in modern board gaming. I had to have it. And while I love it, it baffles me why Flying Frog insists on forcing players to assemble the minis. That is a deal breaker for many people. Do they not want to make money? I believe SoB would be much more popular without this unnecessary barrier to entry.

Merry Xmas! Thanks for your thoughts, but I have a question, if you could only keep one which would it be Scholars of the South Tigris or Wayfarers of the South Tigris? Then non-related did you go back to Skyrim again this year? I'm just wondering if it's a keeper for you or not, well, really cos I'm wondering if to keep it myself. Funny thing is it got me playing the video game again, plus in a funny way helped me understand the Lore, from a kind of zoomed out perspective. Maybe that is the good thing about video game to board game conversion, not a replacement, but an addition. A shame you probably haven't played Europa Universalis, that is defintitely my GOT, it is phenomenal, forget the video game conversion factor (Skyrim pales in comparison for example) it has a brilliant Event system that is superb how it brings real history into the choices you make as a player, that yunno effect nations and all that. Barcelona, yep, really suprised me in how good it is, not just another Euro. Tales from the Red Dragon Inn, I've not played, but the way it relaxes the rules sounds great. It's humour sounds like that of Clank! Legacy. Plus that you rated it over Odyssey Aeon Trespass says a lot, I'm gonna look out for a game of it for sure. Voidfall is indeed a very good game, I'd probably put it as my game number 2 of this year. I've never played any Shadows of Brimstone, and I'd never heard about it being a good story teller, I'll check it out. I would say Stationfall is my game 3 of the year, oh boy what a crazy space station story teller that one is, all sorts of sci-fi high-jinx going on there, lol! Ancient Civilizations of the Middle East would have to be my game 4 of this year, coming in as a cross between apocalyptic civ game and a biblical perspective on the middle east - it's actually a lot of fun. Barcelona would be my game 5 of the year. - - - Congrats on getting married :) and yep the Beetles tune is a keeper =)
