I am not a huge fan of jump scares unless they are done perfectly. One of my favorites (because it was frightening and haunting) was in Hereditary. It is when Annie is hidden in the corner of the ceiling as her son is searching the living room. She then emerges from the dark corner and begins to chase him! Added to the tension of the film, and the fact it's his mother after him, and it is truly horrifying.

The Haunting of Hill House is SEVERELY underrated. It's an amazing series. A fun fact about the Nell jumpscare: Kate Siegel and Elizabeth Reaser didn't know Victoria Pedretti was in the backseat with makeup on. The director wanted a genuine reaction from the 2 actresses and DID NOT disappoint.

I love this topic. One jump scare that really got me as a kid was an episode of Scooby Doo called "Vampire Bats and Scaredy Cats." Their friend answers the telephone, then turns around with fangs, hissing at them. Completely unexpected!

The Invisible Man one got me the most out of those. I made an absolutely RIDICULOUS noise in the cinema.

The lawnmower scene in Sinister, Regan's spider walk in The Exorcist, Kayako's face in the attic, and the tap scene in the Woman in Black are the only jumpscares that have truly scared me. People say that the hospital scene in the exorcist 3 is scary, but I honestly don't get the hype. It's never been a particularly scary or startling scene for me.

I would have to include one of the original jumpscares, and one that still holds up today : Ben Gardiner’s head popping out of the damaged hull of the fishing boat in Jaws 😮. I must have seen that film a dozen times and I can never predict exactly when that head is going to appear. Im always milliseconds out. Saw the film back at the cinema in 76 and the whole audience screamed and jumped at the point, people spilling their drinks, and popcorn shooting up into the air. Great stuff 🦈

I went to see The Invisible Man in the theater. And right in the opening scene when she's being really quiet trying to escape, she accidentally hits a dog bowl or something and the noise of that on the speakers had my heart pumping. I was so scared. Hahaha.

The american version of The Ring was the first real jump scare I ever experienced and it will stay with me forever but the car scare from The Haunting of Hillhouse is the best jump scare I have ever experienced.

I feel like The Ring was such a formative horror film for so many people. Isn't it amazing! I saw it and jumped out of my skin. I put it back to show someone and even though I'd just jumped at it I jumped again when I replayed it.

The Haunting of Hill House is absolute perfection, I love that show to death! My most recent jump scare would be from Lake Mungo (2008), and that movie actually inspired Mike Flanagan for The Haunting of Hill House and it's one of his favorite movies 😊

The key to a successful is jump scares just need to be done right and not overuse. Second part because even if done right if jump scares is overused it will eventually loose effectiveness with each use

I once saw this zombie movie that was so lame even the jump scares weren’t scary. I only lasted 15 minutes through it. Only reason I gave it a chance was because Scyfy had this series about a film crew trying to make a zombie movie and that movie was suppose to be it. Never heard of it again since, and considering how fast I turn away from it I can see why

I enjoyed the list & video, but I'm a little confused about whether this is supposed to be the top 10 most famous jump scares, most effective jump scares, or just her favorites. I didn't think it would be most effective, since I believe that Insidious reveal of the Darth Maul demon dude was pretty heavily mocked. But if it was most famous jump scares, I would think something like the Lewton Bus scene from Cat People would show up, since it essentially pioneered the jump scare.
